Initial Thoughts on Giants Game

Haven’t seen QB play like that around here since Ben in his prime. Russ sees the field, the entire field, gets everyone involved, play action worked great, Arthur called a good game, Russ takes total command of his offense.
ST’s the best I’ve seen in years around here. Good job Danny Smith.
Defense came up big when they had to. Didn’t like getting gouged for big runs. Must fix that!

Is there lingering arm injury issue??
That and not being in his more natural side. He still has moments of solid mixed in perhaps he will improve as the season progresses…

Which raises the question in my mind why they were on the sidelines on the play Bishop got the INT. When you know they had to pass, why were our key rushers not in the game? Resting?
Well, according to Troy Aikman, TJ never takes a play off and hardly ever comes off the field.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Seems to me at least one of those two guys should be out there at all times. The Steelers were bailed out last night by a shltty overthrown pass by Daniel Jones.

Looking at next year, if they don't keep Fields, just saying, Daniel Jones is a great fit for Arthur Smith's offense. He's a great athlete, can throw on the move. Similar to Ryan Tannehill who was great in Smith's offense.

Tonight's game was a perfect example of Jones career. He's talented. He does make plays but he also makes a number of bad plays per game. I have no idea why the Giants don't have RPO in their offense. I think Jones could be good in Smith's simple system.
You're taking goofy pills, bro. Daniel Jones sucks. The hesitation in throwing the ball on that one play where Minkah dislodged it is a prime example. Jones shouldn't have to wait to see that the guy is open. A quality NFL starting QB diagnoses that play almost immediately, and it results in an easy completion.

I thought this was a trap game for the Stillers. The good news is they found a way to win it despite some miscues. Fortunately the Giants made more miscues.

A W is A W. You don't get extra for style points.

Oh I almost forgot the dumb and dumber Pickens TD that was reversed.

Pickens was dumb for his reaction to it, we all knew he only got one foot down. I don't know what he was thinking, maybe he was having flashbacks from college..... And even dumber was Tomlin challenging it when it was already under review.

Mikey T blew a TO with that stunt don't forget.

My biggest thought was it's good news, bad news. Good news they're 6-2 and the offense is trending up. Bad news, they may think they don't need to add a WR.

I don't want them going crazy, but there has to be a decent WR they can get for a 3rd rounder.

Russ looked better than last week. His timing with the WRs is better. It will help the WRs to play with a veteran QB that can give them direction.

Mission accomplished for the first half. With their brutal second half schedule they had to be 6-2 in the first half.

It's hard to expect more than 4-4 in the last 8. The browns are much better with Chubb back and Jameis at QB. Bengals are dangerous. Ravens games will be tough. Wash no longer looks like a gimmie. Eagles are getting better each week. Chiefs on Christmas will be a battle on a Wednesday after playing the Ravens.

The good news is they will get Frazier back at C. Sutton to play nickel. Maybe a new WR.
I forgot all about Cam Sutton. He could be a big help with depth they'll need for the stretch run. Is Cory Trice out for the year? I know he is injured but I didn't know how bad. Yeah, Sunday to Wednesday is bad enough but Ravens and Chiefs? I would love to get my hands on the NFL ******* and choke the living **** out of him.
I did see where they placed Roman Wilson on IR. They have to get some help at WR. They really need Herbig and Frazier back.

Offense:

Russell Wilson may be past his prime, but it is nice to have a legit NFL starting QB again. Last week felt a little gimmicky with the deep balls. This week was legit and his throw to Pickens down the sideline is the best I've seen by a Steelers QB since Ben.

Najee Harris is finally running like I expected from the start. Very physical and creating yards.

I know it'll be tempting to think WR still isn't a need, but this offense would be better if Austin was WR3. You just don't want to be in a situation where Miller is allowing a perfectly thrown ball to go through his hands.

Defense:

They seemed so intent on getting to Jones they forgot to stop the run. I do miss the days of a suffocating run defense.

Mixing in a blitz every so often would nice. This defense is toast if they can't get to the QB and I've read several analysts who have posted on X it can be easy to beat.

Special Teams:

Danny Smith has this unit playing at a high level. With that said, just kick the ball deep in the end zone.

Daniel Jones is basically Mitch Trubisky from a strength and weakness standpoint.

Specifically, his ability to consistently connect with receivers both downfield and in the redzone is something we haven't seen much of in recent years.

He seems to have enough left in the tank to perhaps be the missing piece toward making the Steelers a threat in January.

The vanilla rush they've been using this year probably hasn't been doing Watt any favors.

I'd assume it's a lot easier to scheme double teams on him when the opponent isn't worried about the Steelers sending extra rushers.

Russ has 3 or 4 maybe 5 years left. We are going to have tough decisions at the end of the season.

If Wilson continues to play like he has, he is justifiably going to get 40+ million from someone next year. It would depend on the length of the contact.

I just think it's crazy for a team to commit to a 35+ year old QB for more than a couple years, as their play can fall off a cliff at anytime.

Depending on how the season plays out, it could be a very tough decision.

With Wilson, the Steelers might have a small window here to win a championship with Watt near the end of his prime, Heyward near the end in general, and the way Najee is running.

Speaking of tough decisions, they're going to have a tough one with Najee as well.

And the Giants are basically paying him like he's Josh Allen.

What if they don't keep Russ or Fields? Are you expecting there to be a pro bowl QB just sitting out there on the market?

Look at how well Darnold is playing for the Vikes. Scheme fit matters. Jones fits Arthur Smith's offense.

First of all, Daniel Jones is not a Pro Bowl QB.

If the Steelers don't keep Russ or Fields and decide that Jones is the answer, then they will be making a huge mistake.

I know Jones is not a pro bowl QB. That was my point. Beggars can't be choosers.

Do you want to bring back Mason Rudolph? Go with Gardner Minshew? Those are the type of QBs that are usually available as free agents. Yes, I'd rather take a chance on developing Jones who does have athletic upside than pick up a backup only.

I'm not declaring Jones the answer. Just pointing out he fits this scheme and he also fits the kind of moves the steelers have been making in the post Ben era. Highly drafted QBs that other teams have given up on and can be had for cheap. Trubiski, Russ, Fields.

I don't love this QB draft class and it's shaping up that the steelers will probably be drafting in the 20s so they won't get one of the top guys anyway.

No Russ, No Fields, No high pick to draft a 1st round QB. Now Jones looks like a good get for the QB competition. I'd assume they'd get somebody else as well,
