Of course it doesn’t change the facts as you present them. Hell, Chin was 8-9 in the playoffs including 4 at home losses in AFC Championships before he ran the table in 05 and won 4 straight to win the Lombardi. Does that make Cowher any less of a HOF coach in his 13 years prior to the championship? Nope.
Its the “what have you done lately” mantra. We will just have to see how Tomlin does.
Fan, it wouldn’t have mattered if a franchise QB was even available after NOD, Chin‘s Offensive philosophy didn’t require or need one. Barry Foster, Bam Morris, Bettis, Staley, Parker….all from the Cowher offense recipe. Run the ball, control the clock, play great defense. He didn’t want to rely upon a QB to win the game, only manage it. Every team he fielded followed that strategy until the one year TommyGun offense, which failed. Ben came into the picture (without choice and a limited playbook) after Maddox and Batch both got hurt. But Ben’s first year was also based upon run first game plans. Ben just extended drives with his backyard play escapism.
