Jalen Carter Arrest Warrant

So I am about done with my big board and Carter is one of three elite prospects. There's between 1-5 every year in my experience. So if Carter falls to #20 would you consider taking him? How about if he falls to #32? or #49? Where would you feel comfortable taking a chance on a guy who has elite talent like his. I would wait and see because a lot more details will come out in the next few weeks. But depending on his involvement and subsequential punishment for his level of involvement would determine where or if I would draft him.

not sure what the penalties in Georgia would be for street racing when a death occurs

could he end up behind bars for a few years?

Interesting development. I don’t know what kind of time Carter is facing, but I knew a guy that rolled a convertible Jeep while rushing a kid who had severely cut his arm to the hospital. Another passenger was killed as a result. He (the driver) was also intoxicated. I think he served nine months.

Wow, enough money to secure your future and you go out and drag race and a person dies because of it. SMDH.

Looks like misdemeanors, probably fine and community service, basically doesn't stop anyone from taking him top 10

So the guy races his teammates car, other car crashes, 2 die and he leaves then comes back? Yeah he's ****** himself like an Ogurr ringing another lot lizard

What an idiot. SMH.

I would think it would go into the manslaughter category and with a death,….. more than likely JAIL time. Remember he isn’t a well paid famous NFL player just yet……

Condolences to the family of the deceased.

Damn! Depending on the state laws, he absolutely could face prison time. I just read something similar to this (might have been here in Florida but can't recall), and having his vehicle involved when another person is killed is a felony manslaughter charge. Street racing fits that bill. He is going to drop and if convicted should face at least a year suspension. He should also start his career off on Rog's naughty list where he can't play and they don't make a ruling until this plays out in the justice system.

I have seen some good players do some dumb things before draft day but never this good of a player and never this big of a dumb thing.

These are two misdemeanor charges, maximum sentence is twelve months. Felony charges start over a year and are served in prison, misdemeanor charges are served in county jail. Carter has been charged with reckless driving and racing, not manslaughter although a death occured. I'm guessing if the DA thought involuntary or voluntary manslaughter was warranted Carter would have been arrested on one of those charges giving the DA a tool to bargain with for a plea deal.

If Carter's record is clean he's probably looking at probation, fine and community service. What Goodell will do probably depends on if the patriots or ravens draft him vs. the Steelers l.
I'd draft him at 17.

If he gets away with just misdemeanors in GA, he is very lucky. In Florida and many states, he would get a manslaughter charge due to the wreckless driving and a death resulting from it (street racing). That would mean jail time.

A lot is going to ride on what all they end up throwing at him. They don't have to charge him with much right away. But one thing is for sure is this bonehead move cost him million and a human life.

Well he didn't cause the other guy to wreck, that's all on him. Now if he would have crashed into him or wrecked his own car and caused a death to his passenger, then yeah manslaughter. It's neither.

I believe the other guy was drunk and driving at the time. So it's more on him than anything.

I'm sure the DA considered it but the people that died were in a different vehicle and the driver of that vehicle was twice the legal limit of intoxication. They probably have a good idea of what transpired and didn't feel a more serious charge against Carter was appropriate.

Agreed and actually the driver of the other vehicle was a female I believe.

This happened a month and a half ago, the DAs office has had plenty of time to review the investigation and decide what charges are appropriate. The DA usually comes in heavy so as to bargin and possibly reduce charges to avoid trial. Unless some new evidence or witness appears indicating Carter was more involved than the current evidence dictates, the charges will not increase.

What if 1.17 ???

take or not ?

I think you kinda have to ask yourself this. If someone is not taking him 1-4 why are you taking him at 17? Is his offense less serious at 16? Now I realize there becomes a tipping point where the reward would outweigh the risk but I'm thinking that is outside the first or where he should have went.
* having said this I'm not stupid. If a team below the top ten believes he isn't going to jail and ma have learned his lesson they are gonna bite. Maybe in the Steelers range. But buyer beware.
