Jameis Winston Going Pro

I defend Tomlin and Colbert often, and they have done a great job (especially recently).

But I cannot and will not defend their decision to hold on to Landry. Dude is straight *** cheeks, yet is always guaranteed a roster spot.

they always keep a 3rd QB. See dennis Dixon, Tee martin,, some guy from Rutgers,,, etc...

I don't mind them keeping a 3rd QB, but I _do_ have a problem with them keeping _that_ 3rd QB. You would like to keep someone who has a chance to develop. Jones flat out sucks and is never gonna get decent.

come on! this dude has talent...... who else could fumble while falling backwards untouched.

Exactly!!!!! ! !!!!!!!!! !!!

Salute the nation

From what I've seen of him, I'm not impressed.

How?? The dude has excellent accuracy, can read the defense, has arm strength to push the ball down the field. Has he been an immature turd away from the field? Yes, he has. But assuming he can grow up sooner rather than later, he will definitely be an effective asset in the pros.

His first year he was excellent, but he did fade down the stretch a bit. This year I dont see anything special from him other than physical tools. Didnt he lead Div I QBs in INTs in the first half of games? That certainly wont cut it in the pros. He is tall, heavy, decent scrambler, good arm, and good at finishing games. He turns the ball over way too much and I am not sure about his defense reading abilities. If he is as smart as he talks then he will never figure out the pro game. His maturity is well below the line obviously. I do not think he will do well in the NFL. He would have to do a total character transformation which I dont see happening. If he goes to the Steelers it will be hard to root for him. I would like to see him get pummeled and hope the team gets a lot of defensive TDs or lets Bell run wild

Given his character, I wouldn't be shocked to see him fall into the 3rd round.

With all the new character rules in the league, and the recent spike in player-related embarrassments, this guy is near toxic in the first two rounds.

Not debating his talent, just pointing out his proven character flaws. It would be an awful big gamble to decide to try to build a team around a potential PacMan Jones at QB...

He acts like a 4'yr old spoiled brat and obviously has other issues. Anyone who spends a high pick on him deserves what they will get

We are not discussing Johnny Manziel. He is a two sport athlete and looks like he is a hard worker- unlike Johnny. Does he engage in stupid, and sophmoric antics? Yes.

If he falls to the 2nd round, we better do everything we can to scoop him up. Offer Ben a 5 year contract, sit Winston for 3 years to work on his mechanics. Essentially a Favre-> Rodgers scenario. But he aint falling outside the top 15, so its just a pipe dream...

If Jameis Winston is successfully drafted by Tampa Bay he has an opportunity to thrive under Lovie Smith. If the Jets nab him he will potentially be a train wreck.

he will be 100 times better than v.young

Agreed. More like a young Steve McNair with less speed. And Ben reminded me of McNair when he came out too.Big, strong, good arm and accurate under pressure...eyes always downfield.

Jay Cutler was a damn good college QB.
not so much more than average now.

and I'll even say Cutler was better than Winston.

I'd absolutely avoid Winston in the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Cutler was a good college QB, but far from lights out. Never understood the hype behind him coming out. In fact, his stats from Vandy are- ehhhhh...

Jameis' and Marcus's numbers absolutely destroy Cutler's college career.

A lot in common between the ears, character issues.

Between the ears? As in intelligence? Or common sense? Because if you are implying the kid is lacking in intelligence, I call bull crap. He was a 4.0 H.S. student and apparently has above a 3.0 gpa at FSU (on the 3.0 list there). Now, if you are saying he lacks common sense/maturity, that's another thing and you won't get an argument from me. However, I will say that not all people are the same at 24, 27, 34, etc. that they are at 21 or 22.

Winston is definitely a polarizing figure. It will be interesting to see which side of the argument he proves right.

I agree, he should go play for the Raiders..

I was impressed when he shredded PITT as a freshman, in his 1st game. He diced them up like onions. But, Johnny Football costed him millions; he will drop lower than he would have had Johnny not been such a headache. Didn't Johnny just get in ANOTHER bar fight? It is beginning to really get ridiculous.

If you want people to take you seriously, you shouldn't say things like the statements I've highlighted. First, you were impressed that he shredded Pitt? What has Pitt done? They are a nobody, have been for awhile. Not impressed there. Costed? Really? At what point did you drop out of high school?

You never understood the hype of Cutler but you're in love with Winston? Cutler came from Vanderbilt and had no one else on the team. Winston has played with serious talent his two years at FSU, including a first round WR which he sorely missed this year. Just look at both their final seasons, and tell me how it is that Winston's stats destroy Cutlers

Cutler - 59.1%, 3073 yards, 6.7 ypa, 21 TD's 9 INTS.
Winston - 65.3%, 3907 yards, 8.4 ypa, 25 TD's 18 INTS.

18 INTs at the college level is HORRIBLE! Winston is going pro because his numbers decreased A TON in his second season. His third season would almost be guaranteed to continue that trend with his habits. He's a big strong QB, but he makes bad decisions both on AND off the field. You take his first read away and he forces balls. He's a major project with an attitude issue. He's no where near 2 times the prospect that Mariota is. You call it a gimmick offense, but it sets up plays very well. It gets Defenses to commit to stopping one thing, and opens up another. They throw screen passes to entice the D up, as soon as they come up they hit them over the top. It's not much different from our offense in that sense. Mariota has holes too, he's gotta learn to play under center, but he can read the defense, and he doesn't force throws. He's smart with the ball, has a good arm, he's accurate, he's got good size and athleticism. I'll take Mariota over Winston every single time.

The Browns might need a QB.

The Browns need a lot right now, I HOPE they take ANOTHER QB.

I saw Winston use "badder" in a press conference. It's common for "student" athletes to have "tutors" ya know? Let's see if he takes the Wonderlick and how he does.

I've seen people on this site use "loose" when they meant "lose" and "worser" when they've meant "worst". It doesn't make them not intelligent. We all slip up from time to time. I've used "baited" when I should have used "bated". It happens. Btw, the word you're looking for is Wonderlic. ;)

Maybe Jameis won't score as high as such HOF luminaries like Ryan Fitzpatrick or Greg McElroy (48). It's possible he only scores as high as a a journeyman QB like Cam Newton (21) or scrubs such as Dan Marino (15) or Terry Bradshaw (16).

as in "bated breath" or "I just masturbated"?

Or perhaps "eww, your bated breath smells like someone just masturbated."

As you can see I'm most familiar with 2 specific uses of "bate", lol
