James Pierre heading to Vikings

Like Gainwell, another departure that makes little sense to me. The Steelers don't believe that Pierre is worth $4.25 million a year? But Watt is getting ten times that? WTF.

4.25 for Pierre is cheap, even if he ends up being a solid backup. Gainwell for $7 million is on the high side, which most felt would happen.

Kenneth Walker is getting more than double that, with almost $29 million guaranteed. 7 mill with 10 guaranteed for Gainwell, the Steelers' 2025 team MVP, doesn't seem that high to me. Especially given their lack of depth at the position.

Exacty WTF.

Don’t forget the highest paid nickel back in league history/failed safety that is Ramsey in addition to Watts outrageous money

We’d better not see Kahn sitting on one penny of cap space beyond a small rainy day fund this year like we have the last two years where there has been loads of unused cap money.

My god offer Pierre 5 million and he would have stayed I’m sure.

I’m getting pretty sick of Kahn, he’s better come up big with all that cap space this year, bigger than the flop that Ramsey and Janu Smith were

Pierre wanted to start, PIT had him as a third DB. It was the reason they signed Samuel on a 1 year deal, plan B if Pierre signed elsewhere. Didn’t matter, they had Dean on their FA radar. Pure cover corner.

4.25 for Pierre does seem cheap
Wouldn’t have minded him returning on a deal like that

And you’re spot on
7 for Gainwell in this RB market seems high, even given his performance last year. He put up great numbers because he was our WR2

He put up ok numbers, they seemed great because our offense was so anemic. Under 600 rushing yards, 73 receptions was impressive, until you see that it was for only 486 yards...6.7 yards per. He was a hair over 1000 total yards. He came up big in big moments, but overall it was an ok year, not great...

Good luck!

I wanted to keep Pierre, yet understand the Steelers maybe thinking he was a one-year wonder.

Did you see what Travis Etienne signed for ? 4 years 52 million. Don’t see the guaranteed part of it. Way more than I thought he’d get. The guy picked right after Najee, cashing in.

Steelers are buying low and letting go talent instead of getting in to bidding wars, I guess that's ok, But Pierre being a more than decent spot starter AND a ST ace should be worth those 5M easily. I would have kept him, I mean way ahead of killebrew for example

yeah but what are they gonna do with 12 picks. They can only keep a few of them.

Yeap, they bet on Samuel who's younger and cheaper.
Now we have
CB1 JPJ
CB2 Jamel dean
CB3 Rookie/Samuels
NCB Echols
S/NCB J Ramsey

Seems like a full deck already, CB4 will be drafted, hopefully in round 3/4 but I think R1&2 are now out of the equation for the position

Also, the first half of the season we were complaining he was touching the ball too much. Good player who made some terrific plays late, not a make-or-break RB.

Remember, its the Players decision where to sign... the Steelers may well have matched that and he may still opt to follow the coach.. the DBs really liked that guy... i was surprised he left, I thought he would have been one of the retained coaches for sure... though I guess he wanted to work with Flores again...

Once a guy hits UFA, tge team loses all ability to control them. The ratbirds wanted Lindbaum and Likely back... one wanted to play in Vegas, the other wanted to play for Harbaugh again... Its possible that Pierre just wanted to go

Yep... 53 man rosters are extremely small for football... 11 starters on O and D.. 22 altogether... if every spot gets one dedicated backup that is 44... add in a k, LS, and P that is 47... then a Qb3 that is 48.. now you have 5 spots for extra depth..

People are always bitching about depth in areas that when you look at the roster numbers, arent getting another spot filled anyways...

We probably need to deal several picks for move ups or into the future cause 12 is wayyy too many for this roster right now
