Joey Porter Jr.............................. not dad

Then he may get blasted by the league... while under contract he has zero leverage. If the team and league lets him slide with the back injury excuse, all is well... but if they press it, and they can... he either plays or ends up with millions in fines and loses his UFA status next season.

Some teams tolerate hold ins to salvage a relationship with a player... others push the issue, often ending up with the player being traded..

Porter has zero legal leverage right now.. its not the Bell situation because Bell never signed his franchise tag and wasnt under contract..

Porter is simply following what Jalen Ramsey did years ago to a tee.. including the faux back injury..

Since that time, several players got burned trying to replicate it with less accommodating teams..

If Porter holds out from this point forward, the Steelers are allowing it in order to salvage the relationship..
Really disappointing when a "home kid" gets greedy pig while still on a contract

You can pretty much guarantee he will miss time this year due to soft tissue injuries. So, don't count on him for doing much this year. He'll need several weeks to get in football shape, but then his soft tissues still won't be fully ready for 2 to 3 games,

Tic-Tok the clock is running and soon to be out of time.

Empty the room, sit JPJ & the Art2 down and come to a conclusion.

We as fans may not like the final answer, but Rooney is the owner and knows a hella lot more about fiscal responsibility to his entire empire than any of use mere fans.

The problem has been the Dad acting as a “financial” adviser, never works in the long run.

Compromise to an incentive based this year to retro next year should he make his honest incentives.

Trade him. He really doesn't want to be here. He wants to go somewhere fun and flashy. Miami, Dallas, LA.
I don't think that is true. Pittsburgh is home and his family is there; his entire support structure is there. But hey, I could be wrong. Perhaps young Joey wants the strip clubs, bling bling, fast lifestyle that'll get him into trouble.

You seem to know a lot about a man's soft tissue problems.:p

We can always tag him next year. And if things really break down, I'm sure we could get a 1st round pick for him, which helps position us to draft a QB next year and then once the QB of the future is selected, we kind of rebuild around him.

I mean, to me, this isn't the end of the world even if we trade him.

1. Make our 2026 squad weaker - lose more game - get better draft position
2. Have two first round picks for 2027 draft - can use both to get QB we like OR if we draft low enough we can use the secondof the two picks to draft a CB replacement. And if not we then still have our 2028 pick to refind another CB (would not need to trade 2027 1st and 2028 1st to get QB for instance).

I know the draft isn't a lock, but without a solid franchise QB, we could easily wait to RE-SELECT another young CB with whatever selection we get back for him (in either 2026 or 2027). And with the money we save, we could attempt to get by with a shotgun approach of free agents in the secondary while the young QB grows into being good. Again, even we get a rookie franchise guy Project 2027, he might not really be a full-time starter until 2028. That's the roster I want to be in peak shape.

I guess I am not attached to really any person on this roster. If they don't want to be fair in negotiations, plan B is acceptable to me right now.

Does anyone here actually know what Jr's number is and what has been offered, if anything, by management yet?
If Porter is holding out to be the top paid corner in the league, or even the top 5 for that matter, if I was Omar, I'd be fielding phone calls from around the league, with perennial losers attracting my attention.

I had heard that NO trade would be involved. No in-coming trade calls due to the Steelers making it known there would be no trade.

Things could have changed since I’ve read that, about 8-10 days ago.

I haven’t read any “$$$$numbers$$$$” either way / side.

I think JPJ wants to much money Partly due to his father playing financial adviser (big mistake having family involved).

I also think the Steelers have a reasonable offer on table but the Porter House will not move on their price.

You haven't read any $$$ but think the Steelers have a reasonable offer on the table.....reasonable for who?

IMHO the Steelers will allow it, have no reason to believe otherwise with this flaccid owner

Just last year, had a moronic incident where a Steeler got into an altercation with a fan in the stands (a moronic player with past history of stupidity), said player even had language in his contract to void guarantee money in his contract should he do some stupid detrimental to the team BS…said moron gets himself suspended through his own complete selfish stupidity yet same flaccid owner does ZERO to reprimand the moron.

It’s what Art “the flaccid” does in his kingdom
Let’s the clowns run the court

Fully expect JpJ to do whatever he pleases with zero repercussions or accountability

The standard is the standard

JPJ is still under contract for this season. Play out this year, do well, and look for the big FA money next year. The Steelers can franchise tag him in 2027 but that will be the average of the top five players at his position. Salaries always go up so even it he's tagged it might be for more money than he's looking for now.

OTC has the project amount of the CB franchise tag at just over $23 million for 2027.

I rarely oppose the team, but I think they're being cheap on this one.
Not sure how you can say that the team is being cheap when we don't know what numbers are being offered or what's being asked for.
JPJ has shown himself to be a good corner, but is he an elite corner? The Steeler's may be offering good money and Joey wants elite money.
And if he does sit out week one, he loses a little more credibility, with me at least.

McCarthy values turnovers very highly, so JPJr may have less of a overall value to him ... also the JPjr stats they trot out while hyping him may be heavily reliant on the coverage style Tomlin preferred.. now that corners arent simply trying to defend the scoring play st all costs, he may need to prove himself in this system before they dump a boatload of bills at his feet.

He has to play or he risks losing an accrued season and not being an ufa next year... and if he doesnt play well he will open a whole set of questions that will lessen his market value... if he tries to play the injury card and the league pushes back it could get costly..

I would have to say $$$ what the Steelers feel is a reasonable starting point for them…… the Steelers.

Joey has a number and my point being…….. the two side are to far apart

With the know bold mouth / bravado / of the dad, the compromising is being hampered.

My SPECULATION is the Steelers are at $25-28mil where-as Joey camp is at $31-34 mil.

The guaranteed $$$$$$ is probably the main hold in the whole thing.

I’m not an expert, but have been known to negotiate the river while Kayaking,….. ………

wait “Navigate” would be the word………………….

The league can start fining him, and it’s not cheap.

The Steelers have a lot of say in the fine process, so as to save relationship along the way to contract negotiations.

In the end though, Joey could lose FA statis for next season, plus a lot of $$$denero$$$.

If you can’t get a first for the player there is ZERO chance the player is worth top $$$ at his position
Much easier post season when draft order is set. To get a 2027 first rounder, a team will have to be very confident they’ll be drafting in the second half of the first round. I don’t think anyone wants to use a top 5-10 pick on Porter Jr.

from what i've seen the FO hasnt even extended an offer.
that could have changed by now.

JPJ might also be looking at Herbig, who was resigned and per the numbers looks like $25 mil per season as a backup LB. Yes, diff position, but also ... a backup as opposed to a starter.

I agree, but I also think that we could see Nick blitzing from different spots this season...maybe Nick, Highsmith and TJ on the field at the same time with Nick being in an off-ball, blitzing position.

I agree with the Herbig assessment, but add 2 points:
I don't think any of the other 31 teams give him this rich of a deal
And
I think several other teams would offer Joey $28-30M per year as a top 15 CB right now.
