But there are other kinds of power, and Peele plans on wielding his judiciously. One way is to keep putting black faces on the screen in leading roles. "The way I look at it," he explained, "I get to cast black people in my movies. I feel fortunate to be in this position where I can say to Universal, 'I want to make a $20 million horror movie with a black family.' And they say yes."

It's a formula he's not interested in messing with.

"I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie. Not that I don’t like white dudes," he said, nodding over to his moderator pal Roberts. "But I've seen that movie." The line drew loud applause and shouts of agreement. "It really is one of the best, greatest pieces of this story, is feeling like we are in this time — a renaissance has happened and proved the myths about representation in the industry are false."

I don't give a **** who casts whom. Anyone should be able to cast anyone they want and let the market decide. I am just struck by the hypocrisy of these lefties. Here is a guy publicly declaring that he will hire based on race, and he is celebrated. All these wacknuts see is race and the victim class of the moment. I don't know much about the guy but I saw US last weekend and it's a hell of movie. There were white people in it. He kind of slammed socialism too, IMO.

At a time when racism, white supremacy, islamophobia, and xenophobia are rife, Peele's "social horror" feels timely and necessary.

I asked Peele what he hoped Donald Trump would glean if he were to watch the movie.

"First of all I would hope he'd be focusing a little bit more on his job than watching this movie, but in some ways no, I want him to not focus on his job," Peele said.

"The starting off point for the conversation would be the fear of the 'other' and the fear of the invader and the outsider," Peele continued. "It is a misplaced one when you take into account the damage we do to ourselves. The real monster is homegrown."

In US the black family is friends with the white family. It wasn't at all a "hate whitey" movie like Spike Lee makes.

More public exclusion of white people - Two black candidates for Savannah’s mayor attend meeting that bars white reporters

Race was front and center on Wednesday night during a meeting coordinated to garner support for just one black candidate in Savannah’s mayoral election.

With signs stating “Black press only” on the doors of the church where the meeting was held, white reporters were barred from entry, while black reporters for at least two television stations were permitted inside.

The event was coordinated by the Rev. Clarence Teddy Williams, owner of the consulting firm, The Trigon Group, who declined to discuss the entry policy.

While notes were allowed, photos, video and audio recordings were prohibited during the event, according to Stephen Moody, an African-American reporter with WJCL who was allowed entry. Another reporter from WSAV who attended the meeting was told she could stay because she was black, Moody said.

Not cool at all, and a very bad sign that this is not a big deal. These are candidates for public office. I bet the white folk in Savannah feel awesome about this. You can't bless this **** and then complain about division. You are asking for it.

If you remember the "The outlaw Josie Wales" when Fletcher told Captain Red legs that after they got Wales he was done. Red Legs then turns to him and say "Doing right ain't got no end". Same applies here. There is too much money to be made and minorities aren't going to let go of their victim status when they can get over on whitey.

I do get weary of Hollywood and even the general public's determination to make EVERYTHING a race issue.

It isn't what he is doing that is the issue. It's what he is saying about what he is doing. Fact is that people today see themselves by their tribes (so to speak). Only whites in mass see everyone as individuals so they mostly don't look at race and want to move past that. But minorities don't. They want to keep the victim card and they want to be treated differently because of their race.
