Kennedy was a moderate conservative who sometime went liberal.
This chart is interesting, the way I read it below 50% is conservative on the issue, above 51% is liberal.

While rump can appoint a more reliably conservative judge, he could generally count on Kennedy for the big votes.
Now if Trump Replaced Ginsberg or Breyer, the court will remain conservative for decades....insulating us from far left leaning president if one were to be elected again.
