Right on cue...
I don't like that decision...
Right on cue...
He wanted to retire last year and Tomlin convinced him otherwise. Yeah **** why would anyone want to stay when being the fall guy year after year for blowout losses. It actually kind of pisses me off. As Butler improved the linebacking corps and now I think he was played a bad hand.
Right on cue...
It was the most predictable move of the offseason. Austin isn't necessarily a bad defensive mind, but he's been on staff and contributing to the defense for several years now. It was just another opportunity to get an outside set of eyes and a fresh perspective, but of course not. They'll go into next year feeling better about the state of the team than they should.I don't like that decision...
I don't think he has time to screw with the O he is too busy screwing up the D and the roster.**** really pisses me off. It makes sense. Like I said this team is so ******. The GM is bailing after the draft as well. Now I'm not even sure what's up with the OC.
Right on cue...
Flores is gonna land another head coaching gig I think. As soon as I saw it I thought of Brian Flores. My only concern w/ that idea is would there be friction w/ Minkah???
They see a guy that won't object to not being able to call the defense. This was all expected for months now.. no surprises … i still want to know what they see in austin… he is going to be Tim Lewis 2.0
Mark it down to bad off-season decision making number 1. No worries there will be plenty more.I think our DB play improved with Austin but does that makes him qualified to be DC? It looked better because he had minkah and Haden, plus all the front 7 qb rushing
I hope you're wrong (for our sakes) but he does deserve another shot especially with the 8 wins out of 9 games on his way out the door...Flores is gonna land another head coaching gig I think.
If Butler had any belief in his own abilities as a DC, he would have not kept reupping on contracts. Fact of the matter is that if he was dealt a bad hand, he's partially at fault for not folding. Not a defense of Tomlin; the defense has been substandard. But, Butler went along with the program. It seems just to collect a check. He wanted to retire last year and Tomlin convinced him otherwise. Austin is an experience defensive coordinator, so he's qualified. He's qualified for the Steelers because he won't have any problems allowing Tomlin to make the defensive calls on game day.I think our DB play improved with Austin but does that makes him qualified to be DC? He still got to coach the players. Perhaps not the most ideal situation but he was probably trying to make the most of a bad situation knowing he would retire soon. I am sure it was a difficult situation but perhaps the best situation he was going to get. Or perhaps he felt that way.If Butler had any belief in his own abilities as a DC, he would have not kept reupping on contracts. Just like Butler then.Austin’s getting “DC” because he’s happy just standing there collecting a check while Tomlin calls/runs D.
Hell...free money. Just stand on the sideline with headphones on and act like you're important. If Butler had any belief in his own abilities as a DC, he would have not kept reupping on contracts. Are we still talking coordinators?Hell...free money. Just stand on the sideline with headphones on and act like you're important.
Mind blowing isn't it?You hire from within to try to continue the systems you have in place, you hire from outside to try to get new perspectives. Either can fail…or succeed… just know here is tge bengals perspective of this hire
