Las Vegas fires Josh McDaniels and GM Ziegler

Coaching is in terrible shape now. Part of the problem is years of teams trying to hire that young genius coach. So many coaches are barely 30 and are already OC or DC or head coaches. They just don't know that much football. They have a bit of experience in one scheme and that's it.

It used to be when you looked at an NFL sideline, you saw a HC who worked his way up the coaching ranks and got a HC job after 20 or so years, maybe longer. Sure there were some exceptions but that was more the norm. You had position coaches with experience, the OC and DC with 20 years experience and the the HC. They knew many different schemes from their coaching travels.

Cowher was young but he was mentored by Schottenheimer to become a HC. Then he put together a staff of experienced coaches. Guys like Chanm Gailey, Dom Capers, Marvin Lewis, JIm Haslett, Dick Lebeau, Dick Hoak who coaches for Noll. Together they had seen it all.

Now you have a HC who is in his 30s or early 40s working with a hotshot OC in his 20s. They don't know dick. They know analytics and their particluar playbook and that's it. If that doesn't work they can't adjust because they don;t know anything else.

That's the way Tomlin was ushered in. Young guy, surrounded by experience. As the experience retired or moved on ( players and coaches) the glitter faded on Tomlin. Now he is the one trick pony he always was.

Guaranteed after the season Shades will be wanting Duh back. Plan B will be Sullivan.
Plan C will be someone else he knows.

I most definitely hear yaz Ron. That is exactly why we are in this mess and why we will remain in this mess.

Coach Tomlin has no accountability. 31st in offense and 30th in defense, even with an all-world OLBs and S on team.

Great post TapeANaspirin2it, thanks for all your great ones along the way.

Tomlin had the surroundings and was able to hold it together while the experience coaches were there.

Now that all that experience is gone, it’s like Coach Tomlin didn’t retain much from them. He has chosen to surround himself with inexperienced subpar coaching talent and is to stubborn to see / change it.

Allowing Flores to leave and keeping Austin, shows Coach Tomlin’s in-ability to bring on experienced good coaching. Experienced good coaching is available, but this “promote” from with-in is what is the problem. Out current coaching that’s promote ONLY see the current TOMLIN system and we just keep getting regurgitated **** system.

Groundhog day over and over.

And an improved ILBer group.

The D-line and CB group aren't holding up their end of the bargain as well as coaching/scheme failure.

Like I’ve said, his best coordinators were the two he DIDN’T hire, LeBeau and Haley (and you can lump Arians in there if you want).
Every other coordinator was an internal promotion from assistant coach.
Every assistant coach he’s hired was someone he knew or worked with before.
Duh was in no way qualified to be an NFL coach, he got hired because he was Shades’ buddy.

Hey, I am all for the Steelers moving on from Tomlin. It is necessary. But using the Raiders as an example? They haven't been relevant since about 2002. Davis is trying to win? Since when?
I feel like they've been pretty darn relevant every time they play us. We almost always lose the Raiders, it seems.

They are 3-3 in the last ten years.

y'know... they need a coach who thinks outside the box. One who gets his players to commit, try new and different things while trimming the playbook away from complicated processes. a guy who has moved up in the ranks and has a plethora of experience in both college and pros.

Matt Canada. Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach.

man, that is beautiful. a real tear-jerker. and an All-American story. you're a goddamned commie pinko if you don't embrace that.
You know what happened last time a hated former Steelers OC got a head coaching job don't you?
