lawrence timmons missing from the Dolphins breaking news

Timmons is still much better than Williams. I'll take better run defense, and playmaking on defense over 1 player covering kicks.

The Dolphins really liked him. Who was better last year Timmons or Williams?

Now I don't know why Timmons skipped a game, that's serious, but if he as a reason and wants to come back to play here for cheap for the rest of the year, he can add to the defense.

I think our goal line defense has been pretty weak. Timmons can help fix that.

I'm not sure I put much stock in who the finz think is worth anything. They took Wallace as well, with his over inflated ego and route tree that looked suspiciously like a broom handle.

Maualuga replaces Timmons on depth chart

Rey Maualuga: The Dolphins signed Maualuga in August with the hopes that he could play alongside Timmons and eventually take over as the starting middle linebacker. Now, Maualuga is likely Timmons' replacement.

Lawrence Timmons didn't go AWOL, Rey Maualuga ate him

Says you coach, I'm not buyin' it and neither are the Steeler coaches.....obviously.

you don't think timmons is better than vince?? is that because Coach said, or you really think that?

Timmons doesn't fit under our cap. We'd also only sign him if we get injuries to our ILB crew. And we're already deep there.

At one time Timmons was a better ball player than Williams but I see no evidence that he is now the better choice for the future of the Steelers going forward. His best days are behind him, time to move on.

As was stated before, there is more involved than a slight edge in experience.

Timmons, 30, is in the final year of five-year extension he signed in 2011. He is set to count more than $15 million against the salary cap this year. Timmons has played at least 95 percent of the snaps in each of the past four years.

Timmons has said he wants to re-sign with the Steelers.

The Steelers agreed to terms with backup inside linebacker Vince Williams on a three-year deal that could be an indication they are ready to move on from former first-round pick Lawrence Timmons following the season.

Terms of the Williams deal weren't immediately known, but he likely will get a hefty raise from the $675,000 base salary he was set to make this year in the final season of his rookie contract.

However, Williams has plenty of experience starting since the Steelers selected him with a sixth-round pick in 2013 out of Florida State.

In 47 career regular-season games (13 starts), Williams has totaled 85 tackles, a half sack and two fumble recoveries on defense. On special teams, Williams has totaled 26 tackles and one fumble recovery.

Williams has played 854 snaps in three seasons.

One 1st rounder on the way down the ladder, one 6th rounder slowly climbing.

"Many predicted Pittsburgh might take to the 2017 NFL Draft to fill the gap at middle linebacker during the early rounds. In a draft which saw the Steelers pass up on one of their “needs” at the position, the organization sent a clear indication that they are perfectly confident in the abilities of Williams."

....and no, I got nothing again' Coach, he's got his opinion-I got mine. ....I'm happy with Williams and Red

i think williams is a great run stuffer and capable blitzer. He MIGHT be a liability in pass coverage, but was Timmons so much better? Neither are or would be in there on obvious passing downs.

Which is why they afford Dont'a Hightower more money than the Pats to get him here. but everything happens for a reason. I'll take Joe Hayden over Hightower any day of the week. something that wouldn't have happened if they got him.

I think Timmons is better than williams, but I think Timmons lacked football IQ / instincts. He never seemed to know how to use his speed and natural abilities to their max. I still think Timmons was a very good and solid LB, but I think he never quite got to that next level.

One of the MOST under-rated ILB in the NFL. He had several great seasons, lead the team in tackles multiple years, complete all around player. How the HELL would he be "lacking football IQ" ???? Pretty sure he made first team Pro-Bowl (not that that is anything special) but still had to be doing something good to make it. ANOTHER thing, he was injury free for most of his duration HERE. SMH

Complete all-around player?

We'll just agree to disagree on that one.

Timmons was a decent player, but he was very flawed.

There is a story on yahoo sports about Timmons making an unannounced visit to Steelers practice. I do not know how to post links on my iPad, but the story is there.

Apparently Timmons visited a Steelers practice earlier this month. Steelers may be in violation of the rules. Article on yahoo sports, but I do not know how to post links on my iPad.
