By: Justin McGonigle SteelerNation.com Friday, Pittsburgh Steelers LB Bud Dupree filed a grievance with the NFLPA over his designated position on his franchise tag. #Steelers pass-rusher Bud Dupree has filed a grievance with hopes that he’ll be paid as a defensive end rather than a LB, I’m told. Similar to Shaq Barrett. While there is […]

I would imagine that he would have to prove that he played DE more than a LB. That will be very hard considering everyone knows the Steelers run a 3-4 and then have other variations. I guess they would have to look at his snap count in each and every game to determine whether he spent more time as a LB or DE, but the coverage formation will also have a say. It might get interesting. I think this is his last year anyway!

I believe if they do they get nothing at all. And since he signed the tag I do not see how he can then do this.

I would be curious to see (someone will weather BUD's or STEELERS' side ) the percentage of snaps taken with hand in the ground VS stand up. I would be very surprised if hand down out weights stand up. That would settle the dispute pretty fast. Another thing, DEs don't regularly pass cover either. One more thing, the TEAM has always had him listed as an OLB, why didn't he dispute this earlier,,,?

Take note that BUD is NOT going to sign a cap friendly long term deal. This grievance shows he's out to capitalize and one can't blame him. I think we pay him the "tag" price and next year he walks. There is no loyalty either way from player or owner.

He’s gonna win this Easy ...2nd most snaps in the NFL as an Edge Rusher...You know in our 9-5 jobs if management tries to get away with pay cuts or commissioned sales cuts most of us would back the employee.

Why not here?

The guy is an EDGE rusher...https://es.pn/2Dvs3VA

NOT so fast there, the article say it was determined edge due to him lining up within 11/2 yards of the line of scrimmage. I think a further study will be done to see what he did once lined up and that will actually determine his position.

NO he will not win this dispute based just on this article, there will be a much more in depth & detail study, that can be assured.

What a piece of **** he is turning out to be. His roster spot says OLB. This should take all of 2 minutes to tell him to pound sand.

And they've been playing a 3-4 for how long? And just so we're clear, he's getting $15.8 million this year. That's not enough? Really?

Probably because they already make a ridiculous amount of money playing a game. More money in one year than 99% of us would see in a lifetime. Like I already asked, $15.8 million for one ******* season isn't enough?

Hey now...it's the new world out there. If he can pull that scam off for an extra 2mil..more power to em.

It ain't commin' outta my pocket, that's fur damn sure

All I care is about how would it affect the team's cap this season.

Obviously with that attitude he is as good as gone after this year. Maybe a mid season trade with a team willing to give him the contract he wants where he's valued as a DE and the Steelers get an early 3rd.

But of course this could only happen if another guy emerges with talent enough to substitute him for the rest of the season and without a regular preseason to develop I doubt the rookie can so it would be Ola or Skipper. Tough chance they can deliver at that level though.

Same thing happened when Jimmy Graham tried to get designated as a WR instead of a TE. It didn't work. Though he saw WR targets, he's lining up on the inside, drawing LBs in coverage as a mismatch. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...les-jimmy-graham-new-orleans-saints-tight-end

This translates directly to what Bud is. He's a LB that lines up wide of the RT. If he was a DL or DE, he'd line up inside of him and his sack numbers would plummet, because he needs the space to get around tackles. You gain that space advantage from lining up from a LB position, even if that means putting a hand on the ground.

If they can, I say let him walk this year rather than next. The 2020 season is going to be a farce anyway.

I just HOPE like heck the right TAG got used !!!

I remember when Jimmy Graham tried this. He claimed that N.O. used him more as a WR than TE. He lost his grievance.

He is angling for a better negotiation in a long term deal. His "advisors" are just attempting to gain leverage.

This is being driven by the NFLPA. They filed the same grievance for Matt Judon and Shaq Barrett. Judon and the Ravens settled and agreed to split the difference.

Bud did jack **** his first 3 years. I'm willing to cut his *** now, insert both Ola and Skipper and let them battle it out for starter. I would like to see what either of them can do if given a 3 year stint in the position with no "benching" conditions like Bud had!

Edit: I do realize that Buds first season or 2 were at the other side which was not what he was used to, but you can also argue the fact that he was going up against RTs vs LTs. You can also argue that once we drafted Watt and they switched positions, Bud looked so much better. Was it because he was playing his more normal side or because the "Beast" was on the other side! I think it was because Watt was over on the other side scaring the **** out of the entire right side of the OLine!

They don't want to have a knee jerk reaction with pieces in place to have a special year, if they are irritated with him just let him walk next year and bring in a replacement.
