Let the Mocks begin.......

Steelers host two speedy RBs (Henderson and Harvey) to round out their 30 pre-draft visits. NO Walt Nolen or Ken Grant, so if you have mocked either to the Steelers in the first, shake that Etch-A-Sketch and start over.

Starting to look like it’s going to come down to a repeat of 2021 or 2022 in the first round.

Austin met with Grant at Michigan's pro day while Tomlin and Khan hosted Rodgers, they also interviewed him at the combine. They talked to Nolen at the Ole Miss pro day and combine as well. While top 30 visits can tell us a lot, it doesn't tell all. You can't completely dismiss them.

The Steelers will probably do what I, myself, a nobody fan of 47 years would deem to be the dumbest ******* thing that they could possibly do...Trade up to draft one of these QBs in the first round. I just know it. Tomlin has a real love for one of these guys and he'll ask Omar to get it done.

I don't think Khan would do it. Plus, with Milroe getting an invite to the draft, that's pushing someone else down. I think that Sanders is going to fall to us, I don't think his private workout with the Giants will change their pick, and they will take Carter or Hunter, whichever Cleveland doesn't take. I think both Dart and Milroe end up top 15. The wild card team IMO for a QB right now, isn't the saints (I think Dart is their pick), it's the Seahawks. Yeah they signed Darnold, but they made it so they can get out of that contract easily if it doesn't work out. And it is only 3 years.

Last year a few borderline QBs were picked early. I can see that happening again. Milroe is getting hype due people comparing him to Hurts. Milroe has better wheels but much worse as a passer. Accuracy and turnovers are issues and Bama just struggled with him as QB. I think 8-9 teams in front of us need a QB. Ward, Sanders, and Dart will be gone when we pick. I wouldn't be surprised if a team pulls a Minnesota and takes Milroe as well.

I don't see the 8-9 teams that need QB's. Tennessee, Cleveland, NYG, New Orleans. The Jets signed Fields, they don't NEED a QB. Jax has Lawrence, New England has Maye, Raiders just extended Smith, Panthers have Young, Bears Williams, SF Purdy, Dallas Dak, Miami Tua, Indy Richardson (they COULD, but are they ready to give up on him yet?), Falcons have Penix, Cards Murray, Seahawks COULD (Darnold), Buccs have Mayfield, Broncos Nix, and then it's us.

I see four for sure, with two MAYBE's. And two of the four are more than likely going to wait till later in the draft, and the two maybes would be smart to fill other area's of the roster to help out the current QB.

After us, Chargers are set, GB is set, Vikings think they have their guy, Texans have theirs, Rams might plan for life after Stafford, then it's Baltimore, Detroit, Commanders, Bills, Chiefs, and Eagle.

Apparently Tomlin and Kahn were there the night before to have dinner with prospects. Hard to believe they wouldn't have invited Grant for that.

Used to be (even in the Tomlin era) that the proday dinners were more important than in person visits. That seems to have changed more recently, but who knows.

I would have preferred that they invited Grant to Pittsburgh. But I think he's still in play if he's on the board.

I'll be pretty pissed if they do this.

Drafting PF of Humphrey is the only draft decision I really disliked in real-time. But I think I'd probably dislike this more.

We just don't have the ammo to move up. And with the best DL class in recent memory, not getting these guys because we do something like trade away this years 3rd and something next year seems stupid IMO.

The first 4 teams are not solid at QB. NE has Maye, but is he really the guy? The jets have Fields, but it is only a 2yr deal and he is certainly not a proven QB. Then you have the Saints and Colts. I don't think the colts have faith in Richardson. Tua is one hit away from retirement and Penix is a big ? I don't think any of those teams would be adverse to taking a QB if they really liked a guy.

I could see this too. I'm not a big believer in Milroe, but I'd be OK with them taking the swing at it. Especially if the cost is something like a 5th.

I'm already preparing myself for the big trade up to 8, and everything it will require the team to give up, just to take Milroe or Sanders. I see no good reason to trade up in the first round for a questionable development QB on a team that has not shown an ability to develop a QB. I pray they don't take either of those guys at 21 and especially not in a trade up. If they move up, I hope it's for a starting plug and play ten year DT starter or CB (I could live with OL as well and Jeanty ). A starting caliber replacement for Watt would also seem wise to consider at this point.

CBS' mock for Steelers (First 5 picks):

  • Round 1 (21st overall): WR Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State)
  • Round 3 (83rd overall): QB Will Howard (Ohio State)
  • Round 4 (123rd overall): DL Ty Robinson (Nebraska)
  • Round 5 (156th overall): RB Bhayshul Tuten (Virgina Tech)
  • Round 6 (185th overall): DL JJ Pegues (Ole Miss)

Depends how squirmy Shades gets with the thought of the next Tomlinship in the hands of Rudy…if he gets froggy we’ll jump

Has anyone invited to the green room ever lasted til the 3rd round?

Traded down to get a 2nd back…Ewers is the other QB I like.

28.Walter Nolen DT Ole Miss
60. Kaleb Johnson RB Iowa
83. Quinn Ewers QB Texas
123. CJ West DT Indiana
185. Jack Nelson OT Wisconsin
229. BJ Adams CB UCF

Not sure why everyone loves Tuten, he has a fumble problem worse than Warren, not at all a Steeler type. Are they assuming we trade Pickens? He won’t be happy with yet another WR to share targets with in his contract year.

If the Steelers weren't interested in Tuten then he wouldn't have come in for a top 30. Resolving fumble problems is a lot easier than teaching speed or vision.

Traded back with Carolina to pick up a bunch of picks. Kind of like the result.

My other issue is that they already have two similar backs. If they drafted him, their top three backs would be 5’9" 206, 5’8” 215, 5’9” 200.

Also, Gainwell has never topped 84 carries in the NFL in a season, Warren’s high is 149, Tuten’s high in college is 183.

Maybe he’s a Jaylen replacement long term and they try to sign Dobbins or Chubb? I’d prefer drafting Kaleb or Quinshon.

I hope we can trade down. Especially if we can still get Nolen.

I like the double dip at DL.

I don't mind Ewers at 83. Not generally a huge fan of mid-round QBs because it's usually a waste (see: Mason, Dobbs). But it's probably good if we don't change over the whole QB room every year. So having a long term backup is something.

Drafting an OT late seems like a good idea too. Can't ever have too many OL. And even guys who aren't that good can get traded for something because there's always such a need on the OL across the league.

Mock w/trades:

Draft 1
PIT gets: 31, 63, 66
KC gets: 21, 83

1.31 Walter Nolen, IDL, Ole Miss
2.63 Kaleb Johnson, RB, Iowa
3.66 Kevin Winston, S, Penn State
4.123 Jackson Slater, G, Sacramento State
5.156 Jordan Phillips, IDL, Maryland
6.185 Jack Nelson, OT, Wisconsin
7.229 Kurtis Rourke, QB, Indiana

This ended up being a weird draft board. Winston is a steal in the third round and I wanted to use the back end of the draft to build depth along the lines.

Draft 2
PIT gets: 30, 56, 7th (2026)
BUF gets: 21, 185

PIT gets: 127, 190
LAR gets: 123, 7th (2026)

1.30 Derrick Harmon, IDL, Oregon
2.56 Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama
3.83 Omarr Norman-Lott, IDL, Tennessee
4.127 Damien Martinez, RB, Miami
5.156 Willie Lampkin, OG, UNC
6.190 Zah Frazier, CB, UTSA
7.229 Caleb Rogers, OT, Texas Tech

The second and third rounds did not fall the way I wanted. I am low on Milroe but could see the Steelers taking a chance on him--draft the tools and coach him up (I know...).

The only players I want the Steelers to draft at 21 are Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart. Otherwise I'm trading out for the best offer.
