Has anyone invited to the green room ever lasted til the 3rd round?
No, Here is a breakdown of project first rounders who were drafted late first round or early 2nd

The first 4 teams are not solid at QB. NE has Maye, but is he really the guy? The jets have Fields, but it is only a 2yr deal and he is certainly not a proven QB. Then you have the Saints and Colts. I don't think the colts have faith in Richardson. Tua is one hit away from retirement and Penix is a big ? I don't think any of those teams would be adverse to taking a QB if they really liked a guy.
Yes NE thinks that Maye is the guy, and considering they drafted him last year in the first, and with THIS class of QB, they are absolutely not taking a first round QB. Yes the Jets signed Fields for only two years, but they have huge holes on their roster, and QB is not one of them. Tua might be one hit away, but he's also only going into his second year on a MASSIVE extension, so they aren't taking a QB in round one, especially (again) with this draft. The Colts are another team that's kind of in limbo, they have Richardson, they just signed Jones, and they have holes. And if they are going to find out if Richardson is the guy, they need to help him out some. He needs protection, he needs targets. Atlanta JUST drafted Penix, they benched Cousins who they gave a huge contract to in favor of Penix. They aren't going to give up on him after half a season. The Saints are possible, although I feel their guy is going to be Dart. From Ole Miss, so they've seen a lot of him, I just think that's where he ends up. The Seahawks COULD go QB, but considering they traded away DK and released Lockett, I think they go WR and give Darnold as close to what he had in Minn as possible to make that signing make sense.

The top three players that will get drafted this year are Ward, Hunter, and Carter. After that, anything is possible. But this 8-9 teams that need a QB? I don't see it. It's Cleveland, NYG, Saints, and us. And I think Cleveland and NYG wait until the second or try to trade back into the first for their QB.

Thanks,
I couldn’t remember anyone that had a dive like that.

I’ve got a real bad feeling Tomlin is the reason Milroe is on the green room list

Looks like he’s making googly eyes with Shedeur, now. I’m going to be holding my breath next Thursday on picks 6-20, praying against a trade up.

Tomlin loves every single prospect. This is like the Willis thing.

Except that Sanders will likely be gone before we pick. And we don't have the ammo to trade up.

The only way I think we pick him is if he falls to us naturally. And I don't think he will.

For better or worse, I think our plan is to pick our next QB when the draft is in Pittsburgh next season. Come hell or high water.

Ugh, hope they don’t put all their eggs in that basket, especially when the other half of the plan is to get TJ that playoff win, which will push us down the draft board, per usual.

Also, if you’re waiting a year for your QB, don’t draft a RB early and burn a year of tread off of his tires.

I really wish they’d lean into the mini-rebuild and trade away the older guys while they have any value.

Tomlin has 3 years left on his contract. No rebuild will happen in those 3 years. Was it a Rooney that stated that don't rebuild....they simply reload?

Strongly agree on this.

Especially in a class that's supposed to be so deep.

Hopefully we take a guy in the 4th or something.

I guess unless Jeanty falls to us. Could use an elite play maker. But I agree with you on the timing.

It won’t happen on purpose, perhaps if Rodgers leaves them at the altar in July they might back into a 6-win season.

Seems pretty clear that this is the directive from the top.

The business model is "Make (or at least be in contention for) the playoffs every year. The more berths we get, the better the chance we catch lightning in a bottle".

It's been across at least two generations of the Rooney family and two of the long-tenured coaches since the UFA / cap era.

Rooney and Kahn both expressed a desire to sign either Fields or Wilson, this is on The Well-Compensated Lone Ranger, and things of that nature.

All of my mocks have been what I wanted so far, here’s how I think things will go, however, at least for the first three picks.

1.21 - Harmon, Grant, or Nolen
3.83 - Will Howard
4.123 - RB like Tuten, Gordon, Giddens, etc.

Rooney also said we'd bring back Kenny and Mason to compete.

I think there was a real desire to sign Fields. But we got some combination of not wanting to give him $30MM guaranteed and him not wanting to come back (especially when someone else was offering $30MM guaranteed).

The actions of the team show there was no interest in getting Wilson back. Which has to go against at least one of the following narratives:
  1. Tomlin loves Wilson.
  2. Tomlin gets everything he wants because he runs the show, even if there's a conflict with the owner.

I think you proved just the opposite — Rooney and Kahn BOTH stated they wanted Wilson or Fields back, Tomlin got his way. Rooney said Kenny and Mason would compete, but again, Tomlin got his way.

Tomlin turned on Wilson after the 44-pt explosion because of the way it happened — had his wings clipped after that.

giving up tht 2nd was huge. 21 to 83 is a ton of pics. they really need to figure out how to get more picks. trade GP? trade back? they have to do something
And if they hadn't given up that second round pick their need for wide receiver was huge, so it pretty much cancels out. If they trade GP, then they've just put wide receiver back on the needs list so I wouldn't do it if I'm confident in retaining GP beyond 2025.

Maybe. It's one of those "we'll never know" things.

But remember that if Tomlin has the power to overrule the owner because he's running the team behind the scenes like a Sith Lord, you can't look at anything good that happens and say it happened in spite of Tomlin.

So if you really believe this you can't use: Bad thing == Tomlin. Good thin == Kahn / Rooney / someone else.

Because in your fanfic, no one else in the organization gets any say in anything. Even the owner.

That’s quite a strawman, never said nobody else gets a say, just saying Tomlin has the most power. And I was posting the good things last year on PS.com when we were 10-3, crediting Tomlin for the switch to Russ.

Until he clipped his nuts.

In the post I quoted, you said that Tomlin got what he wanted despite the fact the the over the owner didn't want that for the biggest decisions we've made in the last 2 years.

So saying that you believe that Tomlin always gets what he wants no matter what the owner or the GM think doesn't seem like much of a straw man here, right?

In your mind, what decisions can Rooney make without getting approval from Tomlin first?

Had to get that Houston quota in!

OK, Sanders was there so you have to take him. I didn't really like what was still standing at DL, so I took Turner and the NT from Georgia, Stackhouse. The Big Snack to the Big Stack or Big House. I can handle that if he works out. Skattebo is a no-nonsense bull coming out of the backfield that should pair well with what we have in Warren and Gainewell. Frazier is a depth piece for the secondary and Dellinger is a depth piece for the OL. LET'S GO!!!

21.
Shedeur Sanders
QB Colorado

83.
Shemar Turner
DT Texas A&M

123.
Cameron Skattebo
RB Arizona State

156.
Garrett Dellinger
OG LSU

185.
Zah Frazier
CB UTSA

229.
Nazir Stackhouse
DT Georgia

so i opined about letting a QB sit for a year...

with trades (down)
24. Josh Simmons - OT - yes, we have Jones and Fautanu and resigned Anderson. But, maybe Fautanu is better inside? Not a bad idea to kick him inside since Seumalo is a FA after this season. A line of Jones - Fautanu - Frazier - McCormick - Simmons would be YUGE.

83. Will Howard - QB - Ohio State. Sitting a year might work out very well. Howard's weaknesses (listed here ) can be fixed and those listed strengths are a nice building block.

132. Vernon Broughton - DT - Texas
139. Dorian Strong - CB - Virginia Tech
156. David Walker - Edge - Central Arkansas
169. Ollie Gordon II - RB - Oklahoma State. Those OK State RBs tend to be pretty good.
185. Dont'e Thornton - WR - Tennessee
229. Tonka Hemingway - DT - South Carolina
