Let’s be realistic for a minute.

Flashback to January in Buffalo isn't pretty and neither is the ending this season with 4 or 5 losses

The "reload" nonsense is great for marketing but has led to perennial mediocrity.

Watt is turning 31 with a $30M cap hit next season. Why keep him around? They need 2 or 3 stellar drafts to compete for a ring in 2027 or 2028
2 or 3 stellar drafts will compensate for Tomlin at HC? No. it won't.

Seriously. We Steeler fans are pretty ridiculous with our expectations. We just lost to three of the best (if not the three best) teams in football and we’re calling it a meltdown. We were not favored in any of the games and on paper and off, the three teams were considerably better. Let’s try to remember, we’re in the playoffs with 2 QBs who were considered dead in the water and we will probably face a really bad Texans team in the first round. Any of you who thought this was a Championship-level team are either delusional or know absolutely nothing about footballl. If we go 11-6 or even 10-7 and win one playoff game, this season was more successful than the last and a progression. When you always win at least 8 or 9 games, you never get premium draft picks and that shows in the mediocrity continuation. It’s the REAL STANDARD: NO LOSING SEASONS
I would have liked to seen those three losses as clean hard fought competatve losses… conceding that the better team won that day.

Moral victories if you will. Don’t even have those anymore.

Just as well, these types of moral victories are typically dismissed and frowned upon if there are too many of them, but with the Seelers current situation they would be welcomed right now.

these (continual) types of off seasons are soooo long.
3 straight **** games in a row. Hard to enjoy that.

We're going to win the next game against Cincy and the next. We'll get some confidence going, get a few players healthy and be playing in fuckivg February. Let's go!!

If we happen to win the next 2, it's fools gold, we will get wiped the next one, I mean like wiped silly. Won't even be close.

It is tough for diehard Steeler fans -- like me -- to accept that Steeler leadership starting with the Deuce really does not care about the football team's performance. Sure, they care about being part of the hugely profitable football business, but not about winning the SB, like the diehard fans do.
Con……I just can’t fathom the idea that Deuce doesn’t want to win the SB as much as the fans. I mean the guy has grown up with the Steelers front and center his whole life. Can you imagine any outings he has he must be asked about the team. Non stop. A zillion times a year. Every paper or internet article, billboards, radio,TV. He probably drives by or into Heinz Field how many times a month?

Do people really think as long as he makes money,he’s happy? I mean it’s not like I know the guy,but I just can’t imagine it. If it somehow is true….lets hope he passes the team to whoever is next in line.

I have a feeling there is just a little too much complacency. Starts with the traditional long term coach approach. This doesn’t mean that I want to hire and fire a coach every couple years. (Except for a certain OC) i also thought the same with Kevin. I’d say the last 1/3 of his career was not so great.
Heck….id also say it about Big Ben. A little too much loyalty/complacency? Is it laziness? It’s much easier not to change the big pieces if the going has been pretty good, they will be better next year attitude. He has some tough decisions coming up. The next two games will not make it any easier.
Things have gotten a little stale around the Three Rivers.

Yeah it would be better if they just started planning for free agency

The Bungals D is bad enough that we have a chance.
Unfortunately our D hasn't been anything special of late either.

It is hard for a long term employee in any line of work to consistently have the hunger and drive.

Long timers get complacent, things become too routine, employees feel no heat and can’t even comprehend being fired once with a company long enough. They begin to just act robotic and no longer grow for at least 95% or more of them.

They become emboldened and think they know everything. I’ve seen it in every line of work
I’ve been in.

Too me Mike Tomlin exemplifies all of these traits of a long time employee.

He preaches to players beginning every year that they must always be growing and getting better or someone will come along and take their job/steal their lunch.

Unfortunately Mike doesn’t seem to be practicing what he preaches. We’ve seen little to no growth and all the complacency traits of a long term employee. Resigning him was a huge mistake. Ownership should have made him prove his worth with a deep playoff run. All they did is make him more entrenched in his complacency.

Makes you feel like a smacked *** every time they do this and get our hopes up. We have been there and done that with this team. I will never go into any game with Mike Tomlin at the helm feeling confident. That ended years ago.

The test for me was these games at the end of the year where they played real competition.

And it was a complete failure. Which takes us back to why I will never trust a Mike Tomlin coached team.

yes.....this is what I meant. Deuce is complacent or happy with making bags of money and --- outwardly, to the fans of the Steelers --- has shown zero drive to insist the Steelers regain the SB. That is not good enough!

Man, do I miss Dan Rooney.

They lost by 14, 17, and 19 and weren't remotely competitive on either side of the ball in any of the three games. Absolutely a meltdown as they were out there looking like a bottom 5 team.
This is not exactly true. The Eagles game was the only game we really didn't have a chance. We beat Balt once and had chances the second game, especially the first half. We also had alot of injuries which certainly didn't help. The KC game was 16-10 at halftime and we could have taken the lead. Momentum is a weird thing so if we scored instead of a turnover who knows what would have happened.
In the playoffs we match up well with a few teams, but beating Buffalo or KC is a tough ask for any team. Losing to the Texans would be a disappointment, and losing to the Ravens would just suck, but i do not expect a competitive game against Buffalo

They are not better running backs. They are a better run game which is a function of blocking and playcalling. They don't run 36 toss 4 times a game.
Henry is one of the best backs ever. He can run over you and has break away speed. That is a rare combo. When healthy Barkley has also consistently been one of the best backs in the league I defend Najee alot, but he is not in their league. Najee would look much better in a better offensive unit and may crack the top 5, but I would not take Najee over Barkley or Henry

I was speaking specifically to the Chiefs. Considering the injuries I never believed they had a chance at all against Philly and Balt.

There’s at least 10-15 better back in the league than Najee, that’s conservatively speaking.

He just gets a lot of carries.

He’s one of the biggest contributors on the field to the crappy offense the last several years by such a high percentage of the offense going through the hands of such a mid player.
It is Tomlin’s fault he utilizes him so much, but that doesn’t make Najee any less mid.

I’ve got a feeling there is a “no Steelers talk” clause at some of the family gatherings.

He does live and breath STEELERS everything as it is his livelihood.

He most certainly has some big decisions to make and I’m sure him & his son have been discussing many a things as the season progressed and as it is finishing up. I’m thinking that coaching is a “hot” topic amongst themselves and those behind the scenes decision makers.

The topic of on-field scheme has to be one of them. I think Art 2 has tried to guide by talking about running the ball, then also the play off wins. the problem is there hasn’t been any ramifications or “hot” seat5 like atmosphere to put any fear into the HC-ing staff. Complacency has fathered itself many times within the organization / players.

If rushing was to be the mandate, how come we don’t have a rushing type OL, we’ve invested heavily but no return. (Hint) OL coaching has sucked for several years. Scheme has most to do with the OL failures, coaching doesn’t seem to be able to translate teaching to on field applications.

Injuries suck, but every team has injuries yet, this team seems to not be prepared for such a thing. Barely starter talent with bottom line back-ups, not the current ingredient for today’s NFL and offense factored play. Coaching can’t get the maximum out of the players they bring in, it’s like either they have to be pro-bowl talent before they get here or they are just a failure. “If you don’t know by now, we can’t help you” really seems to define this coaching staff.
