I admittedly wanted him over Porter. Not that I was unhappy with Joey. Branch was known to be the best tackler by far for DB’s in college ball. Which is something I thought we really needed. Him and Mincah back there for years. Would have been not so bad.

I would've been happy with Branch as well, but I completely get the Steelers drafting Porter to get a CB1. It's not necessarily the direction I want to go, but a very early look the Steelers should be able to get another excellent cornerback in the first round and have a lockdown pair for the foreseeable future.

JPJ. I'm a big believer is you build with premium positions first and then fill in the rest of the roster. On paper, this is what the Steelers have tried to do with mixed success.

QB-Kenny Pickett (1.20)
WR-George Pickens (2.52)
LT-Broderick Jones (1.14)
IDL-Keanu Benton (2.49)
EDGE-Watt and Highsmith both on long-term contracts
CB-Joey Porter Jr. (2.32)

If they continue with this pattern, I think they will draft another CB or IDL early on. I could see going RT in UFA and WR in the middle rounds. Tomlin doesn't value the center position like the Steelers had for the previous 40 years. Given the investment in guard, I'm not sure how much they will spend on a center, though I think there are 2-3 good prospects for the second or third round next year.

Great question. He's been traded 4 times despite having 1,000+ yards in 6 of 10 seasons and at least 5 TDs in 7 seasons.
