Mason is back

You're kidding? We're talking Ben.

The irony was Mason was involved in the last big episode I recall which was Ben not wanting him drafted here then following up by giving him the cold shoulder and not mentoring him at all.
That's completely wrong. It wasn't Ben not wanting Mason drafted, which the local media ran with, it was Ben was confused why they didn't draft a player that could help them win now in the 3rd round(and Ben was absolutely correct). The part everyone loves to leave out of the Ben and Mason thing, because you know it doesn't fit the narrative of Ben being a jerk, is after being drafted they asked Mason what's it going to be like getting to learn from a 2 time Super winning QB and a future HOF'er, Mason brushed that off like a cocky jerk and said it's not Ben's job to teach me how to do my job.

I would also roll this season with Rudolph also, but we all know that if Rodgers agrees they will overpay because they think they are a QB away from winning it all.

Yep and all that would do (signing Rodgers) is put us another step down the wrong path when we could start heading into a direction that leads to some actual success rather than just another meaningless Tomlinship.

But rather than take the longer path to somewhere meaningful they would gladly go down the Tomlinship path again even if that path does head in the wrong direction and they’ll need to retrace their steps at a later date to course correct.

Flacco emerging. LOL if it's Flacco and Rudolph in the QB room. Only the straight up homers would defend Tomlick and Con.

I’m starting to believe that the plan is just start Mason all season and hope for only 3-4 wins and draft Arch Manning Jr in front of the Yinzers on draft day in The Burgh next year..

And I am perfectly fine with that scenario coming to fruition..

LOL. Now Tomlin is getting credit as the man with the plan........to tank the entire season. Make this end already.

That was damage control from Ben. LOL...you actually think Mason was cocky by brushing Ben's help off? What else was he supposed to say? " Ben's an ******* can't ask for help, I mean it's not like this is top secret stuff that my new teammates haven't warned me about."

That statement from Ben came after he had said he was thinking of retiring in the off season...that he's taking it one season at a time. This was before drafting Mason....after that statement the Steelers had no choice but to draft a QB....then Ben says he wants to play another 3 to 5 years AFTER Mason is drafted and AFTER he put the team in a spot because of his drama. Then after all that B.S. from the king of NFL drama Mason makes that statement.

Wide receivers aren't the only divas on a team. I'll never question Ben's football abilities, but I just watched him do his podcast not long ago with Harrison...I watched as James interrupted Ben to bring something funny up and Ben leaned back in his chair and rolled his eyes. The guy is a jerk, always has been. I saw it for myself involving kids asking for autographs in Tampa during the practices leading up to the game(SB 43) while he was on a golf cart. I've told that one here before. Dude is a Grade A azz. Then watching the throw to Santonio and thinking to myself this guy is going to be a certified legend now...if people only knew. Some do, they've seen that side of him when it leaks out and he forgets his public fake persona .

That is OBVIOUSLY not the plan
We have standards around here
They’re called Tomlinships

Mason at 4 million should be right around the line of what makes a CFA... he may cost us a comp pick, but its still worth having one QB with starts on the roster for certain

Nah. Tomlin wants them to overpay Rodgers because Aaron gives him the best chance to procure the 9 wins required for another non-losing season. That's all that really matters to MT at this point. Win more games than he loses each season, eventually pass Noll, and move on to a lucrative television deal in a few more years as the "winningest" coach in Pittsburgh Steelers history.

Having Rodgers and underachieving in 2025 allows him to blame Rodgers; now, after missing Fields for $5M per season (which appears to be b/u IL pay this year) he needs greater than Rudy because if Rudy fails it will clarify for all that game strategy, player development and recent drafts are all below the line, if you will.

I think Rodgers can still play a little; he's far removed from his glory days, and nowhere near worth $45 million...but if you look at his numbers last year with an awful Jets team, they're really not too bad. And they're still considerably better than Rudolph's career stats.

Tomlin would need Mason to overachieve to get to nine wins. With Rodgers, along with the addition of DK Metcalf, winning nine games is much more realistic.

I agree. At the same time, not getting to 9 with Mason is problem because 2 years ago Tomlin proved he wasn't a starting QB with the Mitch and KFP gong show.

So I think the Steelers find a way to Rodgers or Russ so that those wanting to give Tomlin a pass on underperformance can point to someone else.

Tomlin will go 10-7 with Mason starting and be in the running for coach of the year.

- Motorcycle crash
- Two rape allegations
- Complaining about not getting tall receivers
- Broken toes
- Clash with Haley
- Radio spot right before Tomlin’s weekly presser that would force MT to answer uncomfortable questions
- Retirement talk started after 2016

Off the top of my head.
Being upset the Steelers drafted another QB.

This is a Steeler fan fairy tale. Manning would be 21 on draft weekend with 15-ish career starts, he’s more likely to come out in 2027.

Wait until we get a top 5 pick, Arch Manning doesn't declare, and the Steelers get struck drafting Drew Allar instead.

Here’s an interesting thought. Is Justin Fields 5 times better than Mason Rudolph? Now I wanted to resign Fields. And 20m a season to me wasn’t unreasonable if you roll with him as the starter. But Fields at 20m vs Rudolph at 4m I’m not that upset. I think Fields has the bigger upside of the two players. But Rudolph definitely has the better price tag.

horseshit.

He started mitch, because he couldnt be proven wrong not to play the guy he went after.

this might be true. But i still think at this point ,, Rudolph has as good a chance as A aron.

Fields was offered starter money, Mason back-up money, because that's what he is... a back up. He better have the better price tag.

For being a jerk, alot of former teammates and both his coaches have come on his podcast when they have no reason to go on there, they all seem to have a good time on there.

If Ben came out and said, it's not my job to teach a rookie QB anything, everyone would've killed him, but it's not cocky for Mason to brush off getting to work with a HOF QB. Most rookie QB's would say they're excited to work with and learn from a HOF guy. The Steelers knew Ben wasn't retiring, if they really thought he was retiring they would've taken someone better than Mason Rudolph.

Of course Ben was a jerk alot of the time, the majority of pro athletes are, I see players every single year at Latrobe blow off kids for autographs. Tom Brady left his pregnant girlfriend for Gisele, Ray Lewis helped murder a guy, they're on TV, the list goes on and on, there aren't many Sidney Crosby's out there.

You're timeline is horribly wrong. The only time Ben flirted with retirement was after the 2016 season. The year Rudolph was drafted, Ben didn't hesitate in saying he was coming back during his post game press conference after the final game of the season. He said "I've got another year on my contract, and as long as 53 is back, I'll be back" He then signed a 2 year extension 2 days before the draft.

It wasn't damage control, it was the truth. They didn't need Rudolph at that spot and could have used any number of players that could have filled holes in the roster over a back-up QB. It's one thing to hate on a player based on personal opinion, and you're more than welcome to have that opinion, but at least try to use the truth.

That would simply be a hometown yinzer block party

There would be dancing in the streets…until the masses realized is all they did is set the franchise back another few years
