May as well get it out of the way ... Fire Tomlin, Austin and Canada.

So I tolerate the media perpetually pushing the narrative that our players aren’t good enough mostly because i figure they cant really grasp most strategies anyhow, but I will remind people that the last time we had a straight up losing season was 2003, and all we heard was how the players weren’t good enough and draft picks like Troy were busts… then Cowher fired two extremely high regarded coordinators in Mularkey and Tim Lewis… despite both being interviewed for HC spots that offseason…

The next year he brought back DLB and promoted Whiz..

People often point to drafting ben as the catalyst that year.. and sure he helped… but they went from 6-10 to 14-1 because they fundamentally changed both schemes to better suit the players talents…

What did I tell you about making sense, this is your final warning.

I wonder if Mularkey and Lewis were fired or their contracts ran out?
Funny we didn’t used to think about that.

It might have been one of each. lewis had just signed an extension the year before so he 100% was fired. Mularkey might have been at tge end of a 3 year contract, but it definitely was a surprise when they announced he wouldn’t be returning whether he got a Head coaching position or not…

I think Steeler Nation is in unanimous agreement as to the stale, inept, dysfunctional state of the coaching staff, top to bottom. Our coaching staff has a cancerous condition (pardon me for making light of such a term...) that appears to have no remedy at this point other than to wipe them all off the map of Steeler Nation and begin anew.

And now, allow me to bring another topic to the discussion table:

Khan/Weidl.

After the draft we were in near-full agreement that these dudes had knocked it out of the park, at least with the first 5 picks. Then with the FA signings (Peterson, Seumalo, Roberts, Holcomb, OG Herbig, Fehoko, Neal...) there was a sense of inevitable improvement.

That hasn't happened. The success in preseason was a mirage.

And so do Khan/Weidl deserve any fingers being pointed their way? Does blame fall on them for drafting/signing guys who do not match our team's needs/schemes? Or does the coaching staff get the blame for failing to figure out how to scheme game plans and adjust playcalling according to players' strengths? I tend to fall in the camp that believes the latter is much more of a factor than the former.

And that got me thinking... (bear in mind that I like writing fiction... ) I'm sure Khan/Weidl have plenty of NFL contacts throughout the league, their own network of points of contact with deep knowledge as to the ins/outs of personnel and up & coming coaching prospects. If K/W are as sick & tired of watching a poor product on the field despite their seemingly excellent work behind the scenes, then would they somehow orchestrate a coup? Rally the players? Get in tight with ownership and tickle their ears?

More like fictional soap opera than anything, I know. But as a long time Steeler fan, I'm entitled to conjure up these unlikely scenarios in my head.

And Now...a State of The Steelers address from President Trump

"Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you, we've got a situation in Pittsburgh that's frankly embarrassing. I mean, really folks, it's sad. The Steelers, once a proud franchise, have become, in my opinion, soft as can be. It's a disgrace, believe me.

And let me tell you about this so-called offense that Matt Canada is running. I've seen crayon drawings with more sophistication. I mean, really, folks, it's like they're playing tic-tac-toe out there! This is the National Football League, not a playground pickup game of two hand touch.

And don't even get me started on Mike Tomlin. He's out there on the sidelines, stoic and clueless as to what is even going on with his coaches. I've seen more leadership from a high school band director, believe me. We need someone who's going to take charge, who's going to instill discipline and demand excellence.

Now, I know Pittsburgh has a proud tradition, and the fans deserve better. They deserve a team that's tough, that's smart, and that's going to win. We need to get back to basics, folks. We need to get back to the steel curtain defense, to a hard-nosed running game, and to a quarterback who can lead the team down the field.

I promise you, if I were in charge, things would be different. We'd be back on top, where we belong. We'd be a force to be reckoned with in the NFL. So let's get out there, let's demand more from our team, and let's make the Steelers great again! Thank you, everybody. Thank you very much."

Excellent rendition of Trump. Well done!

Reading an article on the Nation's home page about Shades not trusting Washington as a reciving option. Not the blocking of Jones. This quote sums up what's wrong with our coaching staff.......

"Tomlin detailed his lack of trust in Washington back in Week 4 against the Houston Texans, and not even for the receiving aspect. He refused to utilize a strong running game on fourth and one because he didn't trust Washington or Broderick Jones, despite both of them being drafted for their blocking skills. Tomlin is known to not trust rookies, but at this point, it's one of the many things that are holding the team back."

We have talent sitting on the bench with nothing to do but watch the season go down the tubes...

Hmmm.
You know, KP may have more int's than TD's and some folks are calling him a franchise player.
Mitch probably throws 30 passes a week to some guys who won't ever see the field and he should be cut.

One often wonders if this offensive scheme isn't just garbage.
Most here have not wondered if the O scheme was garbage.

Most are certain it is and has been for years, and even the Tomlin apologists are flipping or radio silent.

Canada's scheme sucks, Tomlin has empowered it for THREE freaking seasons, snd The Deuce don't give a **** about on field results.

God Bless Everyone!
Let's Make the Steelers Great Again!!!

I'm all for the coup.

My point was, it's hard for me to throw Mitch & Mason under the bus when Pickett ain't doin' anything spectacular either.

Don’t feel to bad, they both are tasking money home from this venture.

Mitch is way over paid for return on investment.

Mason would be un-employed had he not signed his friendly deal.

Salute the nation

Nothing spectacular true, but I don't think we can discount the 4th quarter come from behind victories either.

I think sometimes it is easy to focus in on the bad or good. But in this case Pickett is a mixed bag. Statistically not great but shows signs of being a winner.

I put a heavy emphasis on evaluating players that can will a team to victory.

The guy needs to show more, but IMO it is too soon to close the book on him.

The entire Washington and even Jones thing just shows how bad our coaching staff is at getting these guys ready. Washington looked great in camp and now they don't trust him? He is our best blocking TE. He caught 1 pass they threw to him for a 1st down. One of the very few routes they had him run, he was wide open but KP was going somewhere else with the ball. Give him a chance. Moore sucked all the way up to his injury. Jones got his 1st start and looked good. Sure, he will make mistakes but Moore makes them every week and has been playing the position for 3 years. This offseason, they really need a good new OL coach to get the most out of these guys. That might mean moving Moore to RT and Chuks inside or some other combination. Chuks may even be cut since his cap hit is high and he's average at very best at his position.

That wasn’t Trump. No one was given a ridiculous nickname.

Yes, Tomlin is not getting fired and has free reign to be terrible. Austin probably gets another year as a fake coordinator and being terrible. Canada will torture us the rest of this year and hopefully will not be renewed. We are going to be 9-8. Which means we sit at home or get killed in the WC round. Either way, a middling pick again.
Tomlin may be a lot of things, but terrible is not one of them.

93.7 The Fan is reading our stuff again.
Heard this afternoon:
“Tomlin only hires people he knows or worked with previously, that he can control.”

Mitch had proven himself somewhat with the bears. I don't think he is as bad as he looks here. Ben also looked like garbage in this system. Mason just doesn't pass the eye test to me. Kenny has had some good spurts, but when you only use 1/4th of the field it is hard to judge QB play at all.

This team is mediocre. As you said, Jones and Washington will make mistakes, but they are both very good at what they do when they are at their best. This team isn't winning the Super Bowl this year, so live with the rookie mistakes because when they play well, the team will be better for it. Guys like Moore and whatever TE4 they just brought up playing isn't going to get more than 8-9 wins at best.
