I liked the signing. I hadn't dug deeply enough into his history. Dude was a borderline starter before last year, when an amazing Carolina front seven helped him to make plays and look competent. Hell, even good.

I never liked Chris Hope, but I long for those days. Back when we had a shred or two of talent in the secondary.

I think the Steelers are average to slightly better in that regard compared to the rest of the NFL.

Because i UNDERSTAND THE GAME and the intricacies and fans like YOU like to make extreme remarks and kneejerk reactions which if implemented would turn this franchise into the Oakland Raiders. THEY like changing coaches when things go awry-----YOU like changing coaches when things go awry.

Maybe he likes changing coaches when he thinks the coach sucks and needs to be changed.. ? Telling others what they really think and why they're really saying something is a shaky propsition.

This is what drives me nuts about the Tomlin cheerleaders here. I and others have rattled off long, detailed reasons for our disagreements on Tomlin. Yet they all get ignored, because it's quicker and easier to assume (a) you're not a REAL Steeler fan, or (b) you just want to change coaches in knee-jerk fashion. How is it knee-jerk when we have a long list of detailed **** we don't like about his coaching?

We get some semblance of a pass rush and all our DB's will look better. His play has been average at best but the real issue is our two best pass rushers weren't even on our roster at training camp.

The only thing they tells me to be patient is I have heard he is a real hard worker, and a student of the game.

I think it may just take time for him to get adjusted to the new team, teammates, new surroundings, etc.

I will agree though his play has been terrible, and its hard to watch sometimes.

Dick L. speaks of his work ethic and the time he puts into studying, & film, etc.

I am hoping next year he is a little more comfortable and improves his play.

I thought Mitchell and Troy were playing well during the 3 game win streak. They seemed to be working well together and in position. Will Allen is just terrible and when one safety is out of position, the other is left in an untenable position.

What's "well" though? In the 3 game win streak, the D gave up an average of almost 27 points a game, 305 passing yards per game, 7 total TD passes, a 400 yard passing game for Luck and let Foster gash them on the ground one game for over a 100 yards. The difference those 3 games? They got some turnovers and the offense finally converted drives into TDs. This defense blows this year and so far the only constant starter in the secondary for every game has been Mike Mitchell. I see nothing impressive about him. Yeah, he forced two fumbles, but otherwise he's been questionable at best and his tackling sucks.

Truth be told!!!!! I think our youngins will develop, Tiutt / McCullers / Haywerd more and more. But you've got a very good point.

Too soon to say. We don't know yet if Mitchell will be back next year although it's safe to say that Blunt won't be. Between his jump over the line last week and his tweets this week it does seem that he has not yet embraced The Steeler Way, if you will, obviously.

No but he has missed the playoffs 3 times in 7 years and counting, 2 years in a row and we haven't won a playoff game in 5 years, all with a franchise QB and a HOF DC. He is what he is, a mediocre coach whose team has fallen as the previous regime's players have gotten old, retired or have gotten less effective. If you like mediocrity, enjoy these are now Tomlin's Steelers.

He missed that feat by one game, twice. So, congrats, I guess? He's also the only Steelers coach to start a season 0-4 since Bill Austin in 1968. If he gets this team back to the playoffs and wins a playoff game, I'll get off his case and admit that he's turned things around for the better. Until then, his most recent work was getting Tebowed out of the playoffs and missing the post season two years in a row.

As for Mitchell , he has always been poor to mediocre except for a great year last year for the Panthers who had an incredible front 7 and they were so dominant he was not exposed in coverage . This year he goes back to his mediocre standard of play as we do not have a great pass rush to cover for him.
