How is it an indictment of calls to replace Tomlin to say, "Yeah, okay, who would replace him?" Look at some new coaches - McVay, Pederson, Marrone - and recycled coaches - Reid, Belichik, even Del Rio - to wake up and smell the coffee. The coaches are out there - find one.

I still like Gruden, by-the-by.

Find a new young coach and find a new QB to groom. Ben is on his last legs.

EXACTLY! Frankly, at this point, I'd rather go with anybody new just to end this BS. After years of the question being asked, I still have not heard what Tomlin does that's so great.

What does Tomlin and Cowher both have in common?

they both were D coordinators before they were hired.

I really like going after a coach in a similar fashion.

Doesn't have to be a D coordinator either it can be a O one.

And both picked by Dan Rooney. It seems to me that ever since he passed the reigns to Artie Jr, this team has not been the same either. He might be impulsive and retread a coach

Not to rain on the parade, but I think Tomlin needs to have a few disappointing seasons before Steelers brass considers canning him and if Ben retires, the benefit of the doubt increases.

This is stupid

Tomlin won't be fired anytime soon, he just signed a new contract, but we can put the pressure on the coordinators, they are expendable.

Mike Tomlin signs contract extension with Steelers

Mike Tomlin isn't going anywhere.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that Tomlin signed a contract extension that will keep him with the club through 2020.

It's essentially a one-year extension since Tomlin's win total benchmark had already triggered a vesting option in his contract that had previously kept him under terms through 2019.
..
"I am pleased to announce we have extended Mike Tomlin's contract through the 2020 season," Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement. "Mike continues to prove he is one of the top head coaches in the National Football League. We appreciate the leadership that Mike has provided over the last 10 seasons, and we are confident and excited to have him continue to lead our team as we focus on winning another championship."

Tomlin owns a 103-57 record in a decade with the Steelers. He has never finished a season under .500 during his tenure. Under Tomlin's guidance, Pittsburgh is 8-6 in the playoffs, with two lwoB repuS appearances and one Lombardi trophy win.

All the seasons under Tomlin have been disappointing except one. His only success was with the team that Cowher built.

When will Rooney realize that?

This team needs a more no-nonsense approach and I don't see that coming any time soon. He wins just enough games to keep us relevant every year, keep us picking late first round and in the end leaves us wishing for Gruden or some such. At least we don't have Marv Lewis.

Nobody knew who Cowher or Tomlin was before they were hired...so that is a straw man argument.

Bullshit, strawman, my ***. The point, clearly, is, "who do you think is better and why". The names people have thrown out are the two Harbaugh's and Rex Ryan, Arians, Whisenhut. These guys are NOT demonstrably better. But Ark Arians is two time Coach of the Year /endwhine. The epitome of winning with another guy's team and you want to use that as an example.

If you think a guy is better, give a name and say why. Maybe you are right, but he is unavailable (Carrol/McCarthy). When you settle on a guy, look at him through your "Tomlin lens". What would McCarthy had been without Favre and before Aaron Rogers fell into his lap? Anyone would be better...what a joke. Remember when "anyone would be better than Dri" returning kicks? that wasn't true, either.

you ***** about not making the playoffs (what was it two years?). Playoffs, advancing a bit further the last three years.....**** YOU TOMLIN!!! We want to put a ******* stop to that ****.

What has Tomlin done? Got to the AFCCG game with 3-4th string WR's, two Rookie DB's, missing the Defensive Team captain...Oh but Ark, he got destroyed by Billichek and Bwady \endwhine. Yeah, so did everyone else in the league, and those two are cheaters. I showed in another thread that Tomlin has beaten the *'s exactly as many times as Cowher did and you people would suck Cowher's **** to get him back.

What a joke.

That powerful team that went 8-8 because it was missing one player that Cowher had to have forced on him? The powerful team that, before the player was forced on him went 6-10 and put them in a position to draft that player? That team that, after getting that player went 15-1 during the season and lost in the playoffs to...wait, you want to guess who it was? Can you? Is it a mystery? Do you know what the score was? That powerful team that won the Super Bowl a year later lost to the *'s in the divisional round 41-27....OMFG, we should have punted Cowher's *** to the curb. he cant beat the *'s....AGAIN....

I said this exact same thing in the thread that was posted asking this question. We, as fans, do not always have a finger on the pulse of who the up-and-coming geniuses are out there, but the coaching/front office circles do. The question implies that the answer must be someone with a better "resume" but that's how the retread coaching carousel keeps on going. Teams only hiring folks who have "proven experience" even if it's not even particularly impressive experience will set your franchise back. However, looking for up-and-coming candidates who may not be proven HC's yet but are clearly capable to those who are trained to spot these things, is what will keep you a winner.

What a joke.

1. So if a fan with an opinion on a coach cannot name someone that YOU deem as a better option that means that there is no better coach out there. Once again, nobody knew who Cowher or Tomlin was before they were hired either.

2. So now we can discredit a coach because he has a good QB, well **** Bill Walsh and Don Shula then too. All of the Tomlin supporters say it's bogus when people point out that Tomlin inherited a gold mine of a team and had success, but now that is your excuse for why other coaches are overrated...can you spell hypocrisy?

3. I ***** about a team that now after 10 years is consistently under performing, that comes out flat in almost every game. I ***** about a team that the leader left a decision that affects the image and perception of the franchise up to a player vote instead of being the leader and making a decision and expecting his men to follow his order. I ***** about a coach that is either directly or indirectly approving game plans that play into other teams strengths rather than their weaknesses. I ***** about a team that is so undisciplined we continue to get costly penalties at an alarming rate. I ***** about a team that lacks leadership to a degree that we have players doing facebook live feeds in the locker room when the coach is talking, getting suspended for drug related issues, players more concerned with social media then improving their game. I ***** about a team that was expected to compete for a SB this year that has played abysmal thru 5 games, an OL that is woefully under performing, a RB that wants $15 mil. a year that skips all of camp and is now inconsistent on the field, a QB that is under performing, a team that right now has 1 consistent WR, a defense that is in the bottom 10 in the league against the run, a team that while getting your *** kicked thinks it is a great idea to celebrate a tackle after you just gave up another first down, I ***** in general that this is a team that is undisciplined, unfocused, and lacks leadership. I am sure that Tomlin will unleash hell here soon when they go back to the lab. and continue to do the same damn thing again and expect a different outcome

4. I don't want Cowher back at all, his coaching ship has long sailed, but thinking that there is no young X and O's coach that is more authoritarian out there that can replace Tomlin is ridiculous. But feel free to make mass generalizations about everyone that disagrees with your assessment of Tomlin.

5. Since your think Tomlin is irreplaceable, answer these questions: a) What areas of this team are BETTER now than the team that he took over? b) What is our identity as a team, offensively or defensively?

The answer to those questions is a joke.

VERY well said and the constant through all this is Tomlin. He hasn't fixed / adjusted / maintained / disciplines a joke / well you get the point. NOW don't go thinking this guy is bitching cause we are losing....... I've said near the same while winning. I've stepped back and have given Coach Tomlin the respect and multiple patience to do things better but to near no avail. The talent on both sides of the ball is enough to go all the way but yet is so under utilized and disciplined that we have virtually no chance in hades of making a legitimate wave.

Salute the nation

Couldn't have said it better myself. Well done Steeler Pride.

Really enjoyed this post. Sums up how I feel about our coaching. Which is sad, I loved MT in the first few years, had high hopes and hung on to defending him longer than I felt was comfortable. But it's becoming glaringly obvious that all these things you pointed out can only be a result of coaching

Really don't think you're going to see the Rooney's fire Tomlin. They will likely change coordinators before they fire Tomlin. You might want to change this to who replaced Todd Haley instead

Main reason...The Rooney Rule.

Oh, I agree, H57, but I was merely answering the challenge by some, "Oh yeah, who replaces him?" The simple fact is that coaches better than Tomlin are out there and other teams have found some.

I appreciate the fact that the Steelers are patient and do not blow up the team every time something problematic occurs. However, I am convinced that Tomlin is simply not able to get the most from his teams, and is utterly unable to make contemporaneous changes when Plan A is not working.

If Ben starts to fade again....Jones is a joke....give Dobbs a try - what more can we lose ?

There's a reason why we own the word..."SUPERBIKE".
