Military Bases on Heightened Alert

That isn't that big of a difference between Alpha and Bravo. It's still a 100% ID check to get on base. Now I think that means that they check the IDs of everyone in the car and not just the driver.

We play golf at NASJAX and for the last several years or so they have the driver gather all four drivers licenses and present them to the guard, he in-turn takes them and one at a time matches picture with face then returns them to the driver. I remember back when they only checked the driver, but that was awhile back.....years.

Normally, they just check the ID of the driver. I rarely go on base anymore, but the last time I did (about 2 months ago), that was all they checked. I remember when I went to see Will graduate basic training back in 1996. They didn't check ANYTHING. I had a car tag of the base, and I just drove on. Not anymore.

I think that's cute Lyn. Going to a basic training graduation is something like celebrating going into 7th grade. You wanna know how many people visited my basic training graduation ? Times have changed for sure.

It's a big deal. Families come and all that. I didn't know that wasn't always the norm.

Ours was more like....

"Yeh you passed this little exercise now go get your ticket to Pleiku and remember to keep your damn head down , like I toll ya"

I looked up some film from my era and I guess we had a training Battalion that nobody loved..LOL. We were lucky if the Company Commander found time to say "bye- bye *******", but according to this film, they had parents at graduation back then too. Our company was mostly draftees from Pa, graduating in Ft. Gordon , Ga... so it was unlikely anyone would show up anyway.

The day after 9/11 was the worst. I remember it took me about 2 hrs to go the last 1/2 mile into 32nd street naval base in San Diego.

I was living with my mom at the time- hubby was on his first overseas tour in Korea. I didn't get to experience that, but I have heard stories of how tight the security was.

Every individual car was inspected inside and out, top to bottom.
