Safety Mike Mitchell was hit with a $48,620 for his late hit on Chiefs QB Alex Smith on Sunday. Mitchell was also assessed a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty. Video footage appears to show Anthony Chickillo trip Mitchell who falls into Smith’s legs. Great play by Alex Smith to escape pressure & get it to […]

I'm sure they will reduce the fine during appeal. That's a brutal fine amount.

Mitchell has earned it over the years. Probably why he isn't getting the benefit of the doubt in this case.

I was surprised but I think this is only the third time Mitchell has been fined by the NFL.

Wow. Really? I would have thought it would have been more than that. Either way, he has a history.

That's not the way the Bengals fans see it. ;-)

I think it's 3 times with the Steelers. Twice in 2015 then today. Several times when he was with Carolina.

Totally insane. How can they justify that or any fine when the replay clearly shows he was tripped from behind. Once again, Rog targeted Steelers.

But the public didn’t see the replay. Rog only does whatever he thinks makes him look good in the media. He’s cuckold to twitter.

At least Mitchell didn't celebrate afterwords. Dude celebrates after routine tackles.

Amazing bull crap.
Alex Smith has no idea WHAT even happened...."it was soooo fragrant". YOU MORON!!! Look at the tape, Mitchell was CLEARLY pushed and tried avoiding the hit.
Alex Smith's OVER EXAGGERATION of the hit is more insulting than the 48G fine.

Ridiculous.

There's a reason why we own the word..."SUPERBIKE".

All I know is Ben has gotten hit way worse and way more often and typically nothing is ever called. He didn't even knock Smith over. He barely touched him and that was after he was tripped and pushed in the back by Chicklo. I would love to see him show the replay to Rog and have it recorded so we can see what stupid comment Rog comes back with. Rog will uphold the fine, not because Mitchell hit him intentionally or flagrantly but because Mitchell is a Steeler.

Hes a ****** idiot but he is our ****** idiot. He deserved every penny of that fine. First he screwed up an easy sack on a huge play at a big point of the game. Then he did that. I dont really get how Rogers is benched for dropping a ball in the suns glare and Mitchell skates on this. If Tomlin is serious about playing disciplined and reducing penalties Mike should take a seat and see how someone else does.

Such a different league.
Sucks...at what point is it too much suck?
Only we can determine, I guess.

Stop the celebration ****, Mike.
Keep hitting.
Do your best to keep it football, even if it costs you.
Inch by inch its becoming millionaires playing tag football.

So by what your interpretation of the rules should be, you would say that should be a legal hit.

You could understand the penalty being called during live-play (which is another reason that it should be reviewed). However, the fine is ridiculous.

If you let it slide, you could see someone like Burfict "stumbling" into his own player to push him into the QB after the pass is out.....

on the play, wasn't that one of those blind-side blocks on Willie Gay. They were made illegal, but there may be reason it doesn't apply there.

The NFL is disgusting. He was pushed and barely touched him. $48K...fake news lol. No wonder people turn their garbage off.

I think the league has seen the video. And seen the chickilo push. Its an opportunity for them to come out hard on late hits.. and FOR protection of the QB.. They already plan to reduce or to absolve Mitchell.

I think in Oakland too. My uncle is a huge Raiders fan and he was telling me how frustrating the guy can be

Does anybody have the 22 man video of that play? It should show what happened more clearly.
