Mitchell Hit With Huge Fine

It’s a bit too hefty, and like others have said it will get reduced. However, Mitchell is viewed outside of our fandoms as a “dirty” player and the league plays to that bias when imposing fines.

I dont think it was cheap or intentional. Had Chickillo been on the Chiefs player pushed him maybe. It was a penalty and a fine. 48 k is maybe too steep. I wouldnt be pleased if that was Ben getting hit like that sorry.

Sorry guys, but I have to disagree with most of you, he deserved it. Yes, he was pushed, but to me it looked like Chickillo barely touched him, and he exaggerated that to have an opportunity to hit Smith late. I don't blame Smith one bit for being pissed. And with Mitchell's history of being a dumbass, he gets no benefit of the doubt from me. Maybe this fine will get him to think more, but I doubt it. I was actually hoping for a suspension, to prove that our defense is better with Wilcox anyway.

It's high time every fine be taken to court. If Elliot can tie up a suspension for months, then its time players go outside the system for everything. I'd rather take my chances in a court of law than in Goodell's office.

i disagree... no way can you react (fall down) to a shove in the back that wasnt hard enough to knock you down. I think he was running and that shove knocked him off balance. He didnt hit green much anyway. But i believe it was unintentional after the replay. At first i was pissed too.

I would love to see the whole field perspective, and maybe the NFL office has that view and it incriminates him.

I agree with the rest of what you said bmoritz

Mitchell is a problem. He was lucky he didn't get fined at the 2min warning in the 1st half when he helmet to helmet hit West late. West was already tied up by 2 players, momentum stopped, Bam, head hunter by No Play. West was injured on that play. There is no excuse to his style of play. Clean that **** up Mitch or sit the bench.

So by what your interpretation of the rules should be, you would say that should be a legal hit.

He was tripped into him, unless that ************ has a way of defying gravity, he's going to hit him on that play. So, yes, unless the defensive playbook or coaches come up with a "defy gravity to avoid penalty" strategy, that should most definitely be a LEGAL hit.

Although you have a VERY legitamit point the downside to it would be the watering down even more of player talent. Owners would figure out it's cheaper and easier to hire NON-Combatant employees. Once an employee took it to outside court a time or two....... He would be squeezed out of the game and replaced with what's left for talent.

Salute the nation

I don't think he fell because he was shoved. I saw a replay showing that his feet got tangled with Watt's, and that is why he fell.

Turns out the 48 plus thousand was for a helmet to helmet hit on a different play, which i agree with. The low hit on Smith was an additional 9,000 and some change. I agree that it was unintentional but, with Mitchell's history of hits, the league and Das Fuher will continue to give him the "full Deebo" treatment. I hope this is Mitchell's last year with us, his crap got old two years ago.

That was the hit that I rewatched today from the game and was the most egregious. He deserved every cent of his fine for his hit on West. No Play used his helmet as a weapon, and is lucky he's not suspended for it. West didn't practice this week with a concussion caused by that dangerous hit. He is still in protocol and will not play this week. I can't defend a player that is going for a knockout, when the player he's targeting is already tackled.

I get tired of some of his crap, but to let him go we need a replacement. And it isn't on this roster....

Report: Mitchell fined $9K for Smith hit; $48K for separate play

Arun Srinivasan. Oct 20 2017, 17:14
(Icon Sports Wire)

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Mike Mitchell was fined $9,115 for an illegal hit on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, as opposed to $48,620, which was erroneously reported Thursday.

However, Mitchell was indeed fined $48,620 for a helmet-to-helmet hit delivered on Chiefs running back Charcandrick West, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.

Although Mitchell wasn't flagged for the hit on West, the Chiefs running back suffered a concussion on the play.

Mitchell remains eligible to play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

So there you go. He wasn’t fined $48k for his stumble into Alex Smith. It was this whole other play where he was playing “too violent” okay.?!

NFL = National ******* Laughingstock.

The ******* fine probably shouldn't be that ******* big. However at least this fine is for a ******* hit that drew a ******* flag on the ******* play. There ought to be a ******* rule that without a ******* flag on the ******* field they can't Leavy a ******* fine.

He's a Steeler, but he's Rodney Harrison level dirty and commits bonehead *** penalties. I'd rather they play the kids and move on.

Well, West couldn't practice this week and won't play Sunday due to that 'non flagged' hit. If someone hit AB as egregiously, I would be equally as upset.

It being a Steeler doing the hitting does not make it acceptable.

I don't even remember the hit on the RB. Was he fined because it was an illegal hit or was he fined because the dude ended up with a concussion? The NFL certainly isn't above that. Just like on the field they won't throw a flag on a hit until the guy lays on the ground like he's dead....then comes the yellow. Then the guy gets up and walks off the field like he's perfectly fine.

If I remember correctly it is the hit Mitchell flew into West with his head down and made helmet to helmet contact while making the tackle. Romo mentioned a couple of times that will draw a fine for Mitchell.
