Mock the 2023 consensus big board.

When I say the trade offers on the new site (really like the mock function - realistic) are clownish? Check this one out:

Wow, so I get a 4th round pick and a 6th round pick in 2024 (equivalent to a 7th round pick this year) for the 14th @#$%ing pick of the draft? So generous, but somehow I am going to force myself to say "no."

Trade Recap

Best LT in the draft, best C in the draft, best OG in the draft, best NT in the draft, one of the best hybrid S/LBers in the draft, and a good possession WR. Big, physical CB in Jones. Not great in man coverage, but certainly somebody who could develop into a solid #2. Flier on the late round CB. Decent size, productivity.

I should have addressed NT early on, didn't, paid the price. Porter is a big, fast, physical CB with great lineage. Ojulari is a potentially elite edge rusher. Really starting to like Duncan at 44. Played against all the elite edge defenders in the Big-10, allowed just 7 sacks in 28 games. Very mobile, gets out into space and hits defenders. Needs to clean up against speed rush (jeez, where have we seen that before?) but his combination size, strength, footwork, and quickness is awesome. This site has game film of him against Rutgers, Iowa and Minnesota. https://firstroundmock.com/2022/10/marylands-jaelyn-duncan-blocks-like-a-future-nfl-all-pro/ Campbell cleans up the Mack position TODAY, and Wicks is criminally underrated. Diaby is a very large human being but probably more a 4-3 DT or 3-4 DE. Johnson because, well, gotta pick somebody.

Well for a bit more fun I went back to 2017. I am on the clock with pick 30. My choices.

1. Ranked 15. Mitchell Trubisky
2. 21. Patrick Mahomes
3. 29. Garrett Bolles
4. 32. T.J. Watt

What say you Steeler Nation?
I'd say 2 HOFers on there with Mahomes and Watt. If you knew what we know now, you have to go with the franchise QB even though Watt is a game-changer on D.

Only thing I'd trade the pats*** is a middle finger and kick in the nuts

To be fair, Mahomes was never available past pick ten though…
Ultimately, here are the full results of the trade:
WHAT THE CHIEFS RECEIVEDWHAT THE BILLS RECEIVED
Patrick Mahomes (QB)Tre'Davious White (CB), Tremaine Edmunds (LB), Dion Dawkins (T), Zay Jones (WR), Siran Neal (CB)
The Bills got an All-Pro cornerback, a two-time Pro Bowl linebacker, a Pro Bowl left tackle and a solid reserve defensive back as a result of the Mahomes deal. Jones is also still in the league and is on his third team, yet is a starting wide receiver.
Buffalo was also able to draft its franchise quarterback in Josh Allen in 2018, but the core players of a dominant defense and a good left tackle came as a result of the trade down with Kansas City.

While Kansas City got Mahomes, the deal ended up working out for both the Chiefs and Bills -- a product of two good general managers finding ways to make their rosters better.

KC had the 27th pick moving up to 10 to Buffalo’s spot
In the Big Board of the mock draft he was ranked #21

Not a shabby deal for Buffalo either. Of course getting Allen next draft was the key

1 Porter JR star will bring the Swag and playmaking skills like Woodson
2 IKA Baylor have to get back to the old days fear trying to run on the front 7 6"2 350 could be Hampton/Wilfork
2 CB Branch Bama depth Jackson Witherspoon Desir uncertain futures
3 Mike Morris De/OLB 6"6 275 very versatile great vs the run and pass rushing
4 Jalin Hyatt Tenn 6"2 180 4.3 can never have enough of these weapons for a young QB
6 ILB Too Too need a sledgehammer vs the run can sign Bush on a prove-it deal min value market, but with a solid DL in front of Bush he can do the same stuff Jack can, which is 6-9 tackles a game.
6 OT Hayes we want to get back to smash mouth Football look at the team that runs the most and with the best success in Michigan, these guys are unsung heroes they take pride in doing the dirty work.
7 WR Ronnie Bell, everything of him reminds me of Ward the run blocking, and key catches.

Updated draft order for any who want to re-mock.

  • Round 1, Pick 17 overall
  • Round 2, Pick 32 overall
  • Round 2, Pick 49 overall
  • Round 3, Pick 80 overall
  • Round 4, Pick 117 overall
  • Round 7, Pick 212 overall
  • Round 7, Pick 223 overall

I really hope one of the QBs or really good prospects that we don’t need drops to 17 so we can trade down … I feel like there is a metric ton of first round value in the second and probably into the third at some positions we need.

  • Round 1, Pick 17 overall-Cam Smith CB
  • Round 2, Pick 32 overall-Jalin Hyatt, WR
  • Round 2, Pick 49 overall- Jaelyn Duncan, OT
  • Round 3, Pick 80 overall -DeMarvion Overshown, LB
  • Round 4, Pick 117 overall- Zacch Pickens DL
  • Round 7, Pick 212 overall-Stetson Bennett IV, QB
  • Round 7, Pick 223 overall-Alex Forsyth OL
I found round 4 to be more challenging than in some of the other draft simulators.

is Dan Moore a franchise LT, is agile decent height but struggles vs power rushers like Garrett, either Johnson or UGA Jones big LT good blindside who can elevate the OL
17 OT Broderick Jones UGA
32 CB Ringo UGA played vs the best and has the height and skillset to be a shutdown CB
49 DT Mazi Smith Michigan massive frame, not quite the Hampton NT but hard to move maybe Eddie Goldman or Kenny Clark could be just a great 2 Down DL
80 WR Tillman Tennessee Good size and playmaking ability to enter asa #4 and on paper Pickins DJ Austin111 Tillman look dangerous
117 De Wooden Auburn need depth on the edge rotating and keeping everyone fresh and when tj needs a breather and teams double Alex you need a guy who can push and get pressure
140 via trade MLB Too'Too Bama old school thumper could start on ST and push whoever replaces bush.
186 WR Ronnie Bell Michigan can return punts fast superb route runner and run blocks like a young Ward both 5"11 and fiesty
212 RB Mohammad Ibrahim dont know Snell future but this a supern short yardage back who just has a nose for the endzone superb value
223 QB Bennett another Brady/Purdy story buy low could sell or or he could be a viable cheap back up has enough from the NCAA on resume to say he can be a 3 or 2

God, the trade offers on that site are ludicrous. "I offer you pick 78 and a 4th and 5th in the 2024 draft for your 17th pick." Uhhh, wow, so tempting but think I pass.

Really good CB, Branch to make Fairlane stain his pants (and because he's really good), solid WR who is my "hope he's there at 80" guy in Rice, an OT I don't really love (gets pushed around a bit), a DE who is never going to be there at 119 but if he is, holy ****, run to the podium, and a guy certainly big enough to play OLB in the 3-4 and a good deal of experience rushing the passer against SEC right tackles.

Did I draft not one, not two but three edge rushers? Why yes I did. Interesting that in prior mocks I could get McDonald with the 119th pick and now he is a top-75 guy. Fairlane's man crush, Branch, keeps falling to 32 in this site's mocks and he is rated as a top-20 player. Cannot ignore. Gonzalez and Branch make the secondary ELITE. Adding a top-flight edge rusher to Watt and Highsmith makes the pass rush very solid.

I like Duncan more than some on this site but I think he is going to be better as a pro than Skoronski, who is lauded as a technician but somebody I can't ignore just getting run over by Iowa's Van Ness. Yes, yes, Rashawn Slater, got it, but Lukas Van Ness has very limited football experience and was a redshirt freshman bulldozing Skoronski. What do you think NFL DE's do to him? Duncan, on the other hand, is massive and moves like a TE. No DE bulldozing him. Pappoe is Devin Bush if Bush liked to hit - very fast, good in coverage.

Young and Baldonado are two more edge rushers but Baldonado is a BIG guy on the edge - 265 lbs. He is a bit Durpee in that regard.

A got damn cooch sighting. Even attacked the trenches. Well done.

Thing is this team is short a WR after Claypool left and arguably short an explosive one. Part of helping Kenny grow besides upgrading the Oline would be surrounding him with weapons.
Best thing we could do is to shore up the o line and have a strong run game.. Kenny can throw it. If someone can utilize some play action, the world would be Kenny's

  • Round 1, Pick 17 overall Cam Smith- CB- one of my favorite corners in the draft
  • Round 2, Pick 32 overall -Zay Flowers WR- Perhaps not as talked about as other receivers but he should be.
  • Round 2, Pick 49 overall- Darnell Wright T -Brings much needed competition to that room. Improved yearly with no sacks given up in his last season.
  • Round 3, Pick 80 overall-Jarrett Patterson G/C- no reason this guy can't start away.
  • Round 4, Pick 117 overall-Luke Schoonmaker, TE- Can use him in blocking packages until he carves himself out a receiving role.
  • Round 7, Pick 212 overall- Stetson Bennett IV, QB - late round guy that has a possibility of working himself into the number 2 spot
  • Round 7, Pick 223 overall- Mitchell Tinsley, WR- Try hard WR that put up solid stats before Bailey Z flew the coop.

Now if we can only trade Harris for a 2nd round pick! A guy can dream.

I found round 4 to be more challenging than in some of the other draft simulators.

There is slim chance we spend pick #32 over all or sooner on a wide recover this year. At best he will be our 3rd option! And we have Austin who looked good in camp before he was hurt and Sims who proved to be decent in his limited role and good return man. Think about it.

I like Bennet a lot and think he is one hard guy to sack. He was a very productive player vs the best in college football. Check his sacks taken per year. It is 9 this year and last year. That's excellent meanwhile the other qb listed at 6 foot even who plays for Alabama took 16 sacks, and is a little fragile. Bennett threw for a higher yards per play. You just don't find that information on Water Football. Yet Young's a high draft pick and Bennet a late pick?

Now I don't think Bennett goes in round in round seven. Try like round three or four. But he is a smart guy has excellent QB IQ / and Pocket awareness. No he does not have a good arm, but its better than Picketts based on what I've seen. And the kid has big hands / seldom fumbles the ball! I'd ask Pickens about him and tell him not to say crap on social media like the steelers inquired about him. A way to get a charter report on the man.

Too bad Bennett turned down the senior bowl.

I think Pickett is not the long term QB we are looking for and will go into detail as to why before that draft. Short answer is he is a safe game manger who threw in very short and lived on the defense getting him + turnovers. He is winless when he has to throw the ball over 30 times, we'll he is 1-3 but Steelers had 3 interceptions in that game. If Steelers want a qb that fails to beat a team with a winning records that is not staring their back up QB due to injury, they have found their man.

You not terrible when you mind you manners. I will talk ball with you. Now what does our own dark shades think about this dawg?

-Coach

Dexter and Ika were gone when I was drafting 1.32, weird, so I went with falling talent in S Antonio Johnson, he will make us quickly forget about losing Edmunds to a higher bidder in free agency. The bad thing is I didnt get an ILB, the good part is that we got a new Oline with serious depth and really good players to help the DB room. DT Roy could be the steal of the draft.
