The draftable Wr they have, Jared Wayne, is 6-3 and runs a 4.5ish forty.. He plays faster than he times though… he has some similarities to juju, a possession guy with yac ability and able to track the ball well on deep shots… he has a late round grade on him and is a bit of a sleeper.. like parker Washington, I wouldn’t grab him with a premium pick but hey if he is there late, and there aren’t other better guys that dropped, take a flyer on him. Pitt has a decent track record with WRs…
I haven’t heard anything that make me want their Safety Hill, but as a UDFA, pitts Cornerback AJ Woods seems like a fit for our zone stuff at least…
Better draft gurus can probably break these guys down better lol.. I’m just regurgitating a bunch of scouting reports
I can only speak on the Pitt guys.
Kancey has been a consistent performer for Pitt. The defensive line is well coached and very productive at getting after the quarterback. Kancey has been the best defensive linemen over the past two years and at times made a living in the backfield. He is an undersized defensive tackle who can be very good in the right scheme. The Steelers aren't that scheme, IMO.
Baldonado appeared to be trending toward being a first- or second-round pick after last season. He was fantastic with 12 TFL and 9 sacks. Injury issues and a dip in production cooled his draft stock. At this point I believe he's a day 3 prospect and a guy worth considering as a project EDGE defender.
Warren was another player with high upside entering the season but never really materialized as an early-round prospect due to injuries. He has good size and showed improvement every year. You just have to like offensive linemen with his experience at a P5 school. Definitely worth a look on day 3.
Abanikanda had a good 2021, but really burst onto the scene this past season. He's deceptively shifty and has homerun speed once he hits the hole. Although not a power back by any means, he can bounce off tacklers and is going to be a very good backup RB for some team. His impact on the passing game isn't there, but is has better capabilities than evident by his production (or lack thereof). There's just no need with Harris and Warren.
Dennis doesn't have elite size, but is just a good football player. He's consistently improved and while he does nothing great, does a lot of things very well. He's solid in coverage and a surprisingly good run defender given his size. He also showed the ability to get to the quarterback, which is always a plus from his position. Dennis also has the knack for making a big play, which I know the Steelers value. I agree that he's a solid day 3 prospect with rotational potential early with potential as a future starter. Not a guy who will wow you, but can start for a defense for 7-8 years in the right system.
Wayne was sneaky good this year. He has great size and pretty good speed for his size. A pretty good catch radius, which helped him averaged 14.5, 15.5, 14.0, and 18.4 YPC in each of his four years. He was Pitt's go-to receiver this year and a solid No. 2 when Addison was in the fold. He still has some mental lapses that frustrate you and needs to work on his routes overall. He's an okay late-round prospect and will compete for a No. 5 role on some team.
As you mentioned with the DBs, there isn't anything spectacular, but even the late-round guys have found NFL roles in recent years.
I like Hill. He can fly and is a typical Narduzzi defensive back who plays with a physical edge. Unlike most Pitt DBs, he tends to avoid drawing DPIs. Overall, just not enough plays on the ball while in coverage and will probably go undrafted. Woods is a bit better in coverage and was probably one of the DBs who didn't raise my blood pressure watching them this season. Again, by no means a special prospect and likely can be found after the draft. Both are worth camp invites if the Steelers are looking for a sleeper.
