These a great teams where coaching matters. When things were running good they looked like a complete offense. Plays made sense and concepts got people open. But in typical Steelers fashion they run it over and over and teams get film. Then shades distilled it down to turnovers. And yes especially for a mids team like this that is important. Think Detroit, Chiefs, Bills, Ravens, Eagles, Vikings need turnovers to put up points. I do not.
EXACTLY!!!!!It comes down to the middle of the field argument and why Mike Tomlin avoids it like it's a football swallowing swamp. As much as they use Worshington blocking the second level, it would be so simple to play action, and he release behind the backers for an easy seam route. It's frustrating for sure.
He Is #2 despite not being schemedMuth has a tremendous catch ratio. It’s something like 51 / 59 and I’ve been screaming all year as to why not target him more. Muth could easily be the #2 on this team, but it seems like they don’t scheme him into the games play.
TEs are very good over the middle and quick hitting passes. Screens / the Flat area / short post - in are all routes Muth would excel on. Deep middles would create one on ones on one of our receivers.
Fear, live it————— breathe it.
Salute the nation
I said he was #2WR before the season started. If schemed correctly, Muth AND Washington would be #2 and at worst #4. That scheme would also have allowed Pickens to have a much bigger season then he has had.He Is #2 despite not being schemed

Obviously Andy Reid is the gold standard right now and he was a perfect match for Mahomes.
Josh Allen was inaccurate coming into the league and is now the second best QB in the NFL.
Jalen Hurts was a mid secound-round pick who had to develop.
Jared Goff was underachieving and the Lions have him playing as one of the best in the league.
Darnold was a huge reclamation project for the Vikings. Granted he's surrounded with talent, but he still had to go out there and perform.
The Steelers don't have anywhere near that type of collective coaching on either side of the ball.
Tomlin schemes his offense around a philosophy not to turn the ball over. Simply because he believes we have a elite of elite defenses. We have seen the end results over the last handful of seasons.Exactly.
You don't have to draft a QB high in the first round to have a good offense in today's NFL if you know what the hell you're doing from a scheme and philosophy stand point and can develop the OL and WRs.
Beyond those you mentioned, Lamar, Jordan Love and Brock Purdy were not top 10 picks and have become good QBs in the league, and though it's too early to say for sure with Bo Nix, he has looked good as a rookie.
Baker Mayfield is another former highly drafted reclamation project that has improved significantly with a new team and coaching staff.
"Maybe" Justin Fields could also reach his ceiling in the right situation, but it is laughable to assume that involves being coached by Tomlin.
Tomlin is just clueless when it comes to offensive football. It's evident from the years of poor blocking to bad OC hires to the absolute refusal to attack the middle of the field in the passing game, regardless of who's passing the ball or calling the plays.
There might be legitimate reasons why talented younger offensive players like Kevin Dotson, Diontae Johnson and seemingly now George Pickens become disgruntled and want out.
Russell Wilson hasn't played well enough over the past month, and I don't think they should bring him back based on what we've seen, but I also don't think he's been put into the optimal situation to succeed at this point in his career either.

Even if your qb has talent...Tomlin is afraid to let them play. As you said....a caveman offense. And that's basically "caveman" football that just isn't going to cut it in 2024.
Not sure how they can expect to ever develop or improve a QB with that mindset.
Another rarely used weapon.Doesn’t matter as he gets open and yards after catch
He’s also plenty fast, he’s just not a smooth looking runner…maybe because he’s a giant
The defense does do it’s job at making key stops.Tomlin schemes his offense around a philosophy not to turn the ball over. Simply because he believes we have a elite of elite defenses. We have seen the end results over the last handful of seasons.
Really? Not consistently anyways. Sure they held Bengals to field goals a few times last nite. Our D allows long drives that eat the clock up. Partnered with our offensive approach....it limits the number of possessions a team will have. We then keeps the score low. Yesterday was an example. Tomlin was happy. In the end we had a chance to win. In his eyes all worked as he planned. The defense does do it’s job at making key stops.
Problem is the caveman offense.
Your defense can only hold for so long before you have to legitimately score points yourself.
Tomlin is stuck in the late 2000’s era of football. He’s failed to adapt.
I would say yes. They do enough to at least get the ball back.Really? Not consistently anyways. Sure they held Bengals to field goals a few times last nite. Our D remains a bend but dont break defense. Hope to get a dropped pass to end a drive. Or turnover. Instead of going out there and simply trying to stop them asap. Again. The bend but don't break defense allows teams to move up and down the field. The constant 4 man rush straight up the field has to be mixed up. Soft zone behind it. We limit the deep plays...long TDs...but give up long drives.I would say yes. They do enough to at least get the ball back.
There is only so much they can do if the offense fails to produce.
Is do the routine things a Tomlinism from this season? You know what else is Routine Mike. Knowing who the back is that gives you best chance to win. Not putting a fat *** on return. Knowing your team couldn't make that yard like I did. Playing something other then a ***** defense scared of the "splash play" happier with 40-20 time of possession cause you aren't winning the weighty downs. Like **** enough already. He's stuck in his "do routine things routinely" thing. He got media traction on that one, so stayed with it as his MO. After this, he has no idea what to do, so we have this pop warner playbook until he leaves.
His next media thing should be "do stupid things stupidly" or "do the same thing the same way". All this really means is "do the sucky things sucky" until his contract runs out.
Looks like I have three more years of good hunting times.
Even if your qb has talent...Tomlin is afraid to let them play. As you said....a caveman offense.
I agree. A long drive can be ok, if your offense can answer in turn. They don’t however. Our D remains a bend but dont break defense. Hope to get a dropped pass to end a drive. Or turnover.
