One of the attributes that drew the Steelers to Allar (pun intended) was his ability to move the chains in his best statistical season. (year prior to his injury) which was @ 40.1 percentage his first down rate.

CJ Carr (my pimping candidate) had a 42.7 percentage first down rate. (highly impressive)

In comparison Dante Moore: 37.9% & Arch Manning came in @ 30.9%.

Now obviously there is plenty other factors in determining a franchise QB. Not to lessen their impact as Moore & Manning more than likely will go 1 & 2 in next year’s NFL draft.

I think Carr has a high floor perhaps arguably not as high of a ceiling when looking at the trio. I would throw out maybe similar to Jared Goff in comparison. He is efficient, smart with decent mechanics - coming from a pro style offense. I also think he will be a little more obtainable if they have to move up from 32. (Did your head jerk?😅)

You also might be thinking what about Allar & Howard?

Well after this training camp - preseason if the Steelers are thinking they might have something with one of the two compared to knowing the have something then you take that Nestea plunge at the position & draft another QB. Don’t try to solve QB ambiguity with more waiting and seeing... solve it with stair stacking.

I think Dame could be very dangerous for the national championship this season. And yes would love him being a Steeler. If he does what I think the Steelers would have to get destroyed with injuries to draft in his neighborhood.

Oh they would have to trade up more than likely. But more doable than trading up 1 or 2 overall that Moore and Manning probably will come in at.

After Houston wins the Big XII, we will all be screaming for this kid

Feel free to pimp his attributes!

It looks like his first down percentage is 23.5. 👏

(To keep with the basic thread theme)

I'll post my Coogs Coolie will be pimping thread a little closer to the season.

he is a dual threat QB, he is 6'3" 210# had just over 2700 yards passing with 25 TDs and9 pic (3 in one terrible game where he still pulled out the win) along with 700 yards rushing and 11 rushing TDs

Coolie isn’t your everyday pimp. He has some good experience and has shown qaulity clientele.

At this stage / calendar in the game, I’m all for looking - N - seeing.

I think Arch Manning is unattainable to us.

I also think Aaa-Ron will not be the starting QB in our SB this year (health).

With thatn chroma said, we have a possibility of not having to search for that evasive QB we seek.

if that stat is calculated just on passes for 1st downs it ignores his running ability and doesn't count all his rushing attempts that move the chains

I’m shocked Sellers didn’t pop up in this thread. He throws a pretty ball and has the build that they are trending towards. I would’ve really liked for Leavitt and the younger Uiagalelei to declare this year from a value perspective. First, that would’ve made the Highsmith situation more bearable. It’s looking like an eventual trade. At this level, if they could’ve paired Tyson with Leavitt, it would’ve been interesting. Only playing approximately sixty some percent of games, it’s a shocker that Tyson went so early. That plan would’ve required another type of WR in free agency. I’m not complaining. It’s just one of those things that has been floating in my head over the last year.

NFL teams have paid highly rated QBs named Carr hundreds of millions of dollars and had great hopes. Zero playoff wins.

No thanks, no Carrs.
No relationship to those Carr’s this one comes from the Lloyd Carr bloodline…

The buzz so many have for the half breed Manning really cracks me up. What a difference having that last name makes.

You’re likely 100% right that he will go long before the Steelers pick, likely before the Steelers “trade up zone” is even reached.

And I sure hope it’s the Stains drafting him cuz I’d love to see the Steelers pummel the over rated, over hyped QB a couple times per year.

He seems like a B grade prospect to me, I’m not saying he will flat out suck, but whoever drafts him sure won’t be getting an A+, not even a solid A grade QB imo.

Time will tell

@bermudasteel loves him some Sellers. LOVES him.

I'm not that mean towards the kid. He needs a real "prove it" season and the way that the NIL has, er, ah, leveled the playing field - that's going to be quite a feat to overcome facing SEC opponents and then the playoff bracket.

I was never really sold on him from the moment he declared but perhaps there's something there, hidden, that is yet to be revealed???

All I know is there are a lot of good prospects and with McCarthy's input, I'm hoping we are in the bottom half of the draft and we pick a good one.

It's the only way we get out of the stupid cycle we have been in since Colbert ****** us with the Kenny Pickett "franchise guy" debacle. There are literally 6 prospects better than Kenny Pickett (maybe more) in this upcoming draft so I think it's time to throw our hat in the ring again on a franchise QB.

And for those thinking it's Allar or Howard, you guys are delusional. That kind of thinking is what I want the Browns to do with Sanders (hopefully they are stupid enough to fall for that).

A lot of very valid points deljzc, appreciate your great post(s).

I would like to add that I am not so urgent to dismiss the QBs on the current roster.

Neither you or myself have the ability to say for certain that they are or are not the future.

I find myself willingly to wait and see how this season plays out. The one on one work with McCarthy can change things while bringing out the best (I know that is not a guarantee).

I keep in mind that we may need to engage and pick that franchise QB, every season until we get it right. It would be great if one of these young-guns panned out, but only time can tell us that story,
