My way too early pimp for a QB in the 2027 draft.

My guess is we won't be drafting a QB in the first round. They are going to stick with Howard or Allar. Come next year, they still won't truly know what they already have unless there is an injury to Rodgers and they put in Howard or Allar. Rudolph needs to go and keep the 2 young QB's.

NYG -> Kevon Thibodeaux
PIT -> Will Howard, Kaleb Johnson & Round 3 Pick (2027)

After:

PIT -> Alex Highsmith
N/A -> Round 2 Pick (2027)

Or

PIT -> Alex Highsmith & Round 2 Pick (2027)
N/A -> Round 1 Pick (2027)

If the trend of continuing to draft QBs is the plan, why not get creative with now (as in the present?) If Howard is not the answer, move him. Reading the tea leaves, Allar was picked awfully high. If Howard or Allar end up on the practice squad, they may get claimed. This move allows you to free up some cap space and possibly, eventually move Highsmith. I would think he commands at least a second. It could be mutually beneficial to both parties involved. Alex could get a pay bump for his last year and an extension. His new team gets one season to one and a half years of affordability plus his on-field play. The Steelers get depth, potential and a second or better. Regarding Thibodeaux, you’d need to have a pre-negotiated deal hammered out before the trade. It’d be a prove-it extension. Think two years on top of this year which is his fifth. With the structure, Thibodeaux’s extension would overlap with Sawyer’s rookie deal and you’d really figure out who deserves that next contract. Hypothetically, something like this would make it worth your while

Even if you don’t immediately move Highsmith, it gives you the flexibility to do so at the deadline. Guys can work on improving technique, get healthy and everything ends up copacetic. Your starter is locked up till the deadline. At that point, ideally, Highsmith would return premium capital if a contender is in need. The numbers may need massaged. I’m pretty certain there’s not enough capital to go around. If the plan is to continually draft QBs, it’s a thought.

The Steelers will do what they do best as of late, finish in the mushy middle. That will land us picking in the low 20’s and the top QBs will be long gone.
Much to expensive for them to move up for a top 5 pick. They would have to give up future premium draft picks and they won’t do that.
So that leaves us with Howard and Allar as our future QBs and that’s not too encouraging.
I don’t know what they have in these guys but you better hope McCarthy can develop one of them.

I know Manning has a name but that only goes do far. Im thinking Carr may end up undeniable 1.
Anything is possible. If Manning improves I think his bloodline for better or worse pushes him up. And Moore IMO should have no trouble with top 5 if he improves slightly…

Not pimping him but watching closely. He has a lot of Russell Wilson 1.0 in his game...

Kid has boatloads of untapped potential

He was supposed to start putting it together last year and make a leap…that did not happen

Maybe he will this season, or maybe he’s just raw potential that will go unrealized.

I'll post my Coogs Coolie will be pimping thread a little closer to the season.

he is a dual threat QB, he is 6'3" 210, had just over 2700 yards passing with 25 TDs and9 pic (3 in one terrible game where he still pulled out the win) along with 700 yards rushing and 11 rushing TDs

It’s really not homer-ism. He’s not unworthy as a dark horse, mid to late round prospect. I watched a bit and it wasn’t by any means bad.

the way that the NIL has, er, ah, leveled the playing field - that's going to be quite a feat to overcome facing SEC opponents and then the playoff bracket.

When it comes to appraising value, NIL has made things more cut and dry. Evaluating the younger fringe prospects isn't going to be as important at the professional level. Front office personnel, coaches and scouts shouldn’t have to be as imaginative. A thing that is going to be said less often is, “well, they declared to get paid. What would another year of game experience have done to their stock and athletic development?” I’m all for it if more student-athletes get degrees and finish their education. I don’t think this result is going to be as prevalent as the NCAA hopes. Basically, they opened Pandora’s Box for amateur athletics. Some sort of stipend system within the NCAA or individual athletic departments would’ve been better than the NIL structure as it is. It’s really the Wild West.

I'm not that mean towards the kid. He needs a real "prove it" season and the way that the NIL has, er, ah, leveled the playing field - that's going to be quite a feat to overcome facing SEC opponents and then the playoff bracket.

2022 called, they want their "SEC competition" argument back.

I don't think Howard will be on the team next year, maybe not this year. He had 1200+ attempts in college and is going to sit for a 2nd straight year, next year will be his age 26 season and he'll have zero pro experience while a guy three years younger was drafted by his current head coach.

I think next season Allar competes vs. another draft pick.

In my assessment, this is correct. Also, it’s what I was hinting at in an earlier post. If the new coaching staff isn’t high on some recently drafted prospects, get something in return.

Hey Badcat. What if,,,, what if under Mike Mccarthy, Mason Rudolph shines and takes off. ? And if you think about it,, how could the HC and the QB coach be putting Kenny Picket in there ahead of anyone? Seems all afu.

there is a better chance of badcat making an intelligent post on this site than rudolph becoming a quality nfl qb

well i think its bull spit. You have no idea who will shake out as better of the two, any more than i do.

It’s not a commentary on the better prospect. It’s nothing more than a suggestion informed by reading the tea leaves. Put about as much faith in it as you do your daily horoscope.

I totally disagree about Howard. What is the point of Rudy. He helps you hold it together a little better for s couple weeks.....maybe. If Rodgers misses major time they are sunk anyhow. You'd be playing for next year. Someone loses a back up. Or maybe even a starter trade Rudy for what you can get. You see what's happening. People are assigning value to Allar because he was 3rd round. Howard is way farther along in his development.

Game experience, a somewhat known commodity, he’s Pepperidge Farms Milanos. Ya know what you’re getting, consistent. He’s not the best but his best stuff is top tier backup, bottom half starter. You could throw one of the other two in there and it might end up a nightmare or hinder development.

I think that might be a mistake for a team to quickly ship off a young QB without knowing what they have. He will have training camp and preseason to show he deserves to stick. If he earns that right I keep him.

I don’t disagree. It’s just the unfortunate nature of the industry. He can improve his status or diminish it with camp. I think the solution up top guarantees him some sort of security. Jameis will eventually be on the move again. It allows him to develop because right now, someone is getting relegated to the practice squad. I’m not certain if there’s any security attached to a practice squad poach. That deal wouldn’t bode well for Brandon Allen. Also, the whole point of this thread is speculation. So, it fits.

I think Howard is bound for the practice squad. All he's done is be drafted by our team and thrown to a bunch of consensus number one picks at college. Coolie could have thrown the ball to those guys. He was third team All Big Ten Conference 2024 behind noted nobody's Dillon Gabriel and Kurtis Rourke.
He doesn't have the football smarts of a Purdy or the overwhelming athleticism that got other young QBs through their learning years.
As of now he's Mason Rudolph 2.0 at best.

I believe you have me confused with someone else. I certainly couldn’t be better than the guys employed by the great Arthur Rooney, second of his name, captain of the good ship Ruanaidh and king of Pittsburgh. I don’t know what to tell ya, just a fan pontificating on fan things and trying not to ruffle too many feathers along the way. Also, my name is becoming an oxymoron of sorts. I’m going to have to shut my mouth to keep up my namesake. On that note, I humbly excuse myself and leave you to your discussions.

youre assigning a value to rudolph based on his starts when ben went down. Im saying also ,, what if rudolph finally blooms because of mike mccarthy and his offense? Never know.
