Much the same as you should never draft a RB in the first round, there's no need to double down and franchise a RB. It's throwing away money that could be better spent elsewhere.

A contract? He needs a career defining year....From what I've seen, he's been a barely above average RB...Haven't seen him dominate any games yet, nor pop the big runs like a #1 Draft pick should...

Favorable long term deal sounds unlikely, but nowhere nearly as unlikely as Mikey “run em til the wheels fall off” Tomlin learning and embracing “load management”
Agree that Najee seems like a better person, obviously a better team guy than Bell…but not the talent level of Bell. Will the Steelers fully embrace the charitable organization they’ve become and move further from being a well run football team…if so he gets a new deal.

If Najee produces i wouldn't mind giving him another contact if he will take a reasonable deal below market value. Probably somewhere in the 8-10 mill range will be reasonable then. It would not be the best deal for the Steelers, but it wouldn't be the worst either. I think the Steelers try to stay loyal to the people who they draft and put in the work. It may not be the best financial process, but i think it helps with team chemistry and having players who want to play here

Well, 1.8 million for 2023. We likely 5th year option him and then 2024 will be 2.4 million and 2025 will be 10ish million. He would be 28 going into free agency. I personally non-exclusive tag him probably 11 million. I wouldn’t offer him more than 2 years at that 11ish million range. As at 30 I would want to part ways. If another team signs him I take my picks and run. If he doesn’t take my deal I part ways with him at 29 yo and take my comp pick.
This is all predicated on him returning to a 4 ypc power back as we saw at the end of the season. I think he was banged up with that foot injury and played through an injury he probably shouldn’t have. I’ll give him props for being a team first guy.

Favorable long term deal is mitigated by long term injury risk where maybe you don't get generational wealth. Find the middle of risk vs. Cap advantage. Though I agree with you about Tomlin I think his eyes were opened ever so slightly by Warren last year.

Connor ran behind a waaay better OL than Najee has ever had. Fact.
Conner also had injury concerns which is why he was allowed to depart.
