Native Americans Want Redskins Name Back

Speaking of color.

Does anyone know why saying “people of color” is perfectly fine but saying “colored people” is not?

My dad who was a young man during Jim Crow didn’t have a racist bone in his body. Never a disparaging word towards black people out of him ever. Mom the same way.
I learned to become a racist on my own…JK. !!!!!

He was employed at Sharon Steel, and had a couple times made mention about a coworker “the colored fella down at the mill”.
Colored people, colored guy, colored fella, colored folks was always accepted and not intended to be derogatory.

So the answer to question is that “colored people” was only attributed to blacks, whereas “people of color” is anyone not white.

What will the Libs do when white people are a minority in America in another decade or two?
Will my granddaughter benefit from affirmative action?

you know it's a shame how we have become such a bunch of ******* in this nation. I for one would welcome back the team being called the redskins because it just feels natural. I have said this so many times I feel like a broken record. IT'S A WORD. it does not define who you are, you define who you are by your actions and reactions.

We have so many more pressing issues in this country that getting all tittie hurt over being called a redskin, nigger, spic, kike or any other thing you can think of is just stupid.
I must just be an idiot because I can not understand how any race can use those slang words amongst themselves but find them so offensive if another race uses them. just blows my mind.

will you be defined by a name you are called or by the way you live your life.

Bring back the redskins let get back to some normalcy in this country.
They are just words.
Yes racism exist, but at the end of the day there are plenty of people who do more good than bad yet that is overlooked.

It just seems like some decide to wake up with a chip on their shoulder and throw out every -ism in their waking life either for ***** & giggles or one bad experience.

I don’t let the word spic or jap get to me. But thats just me. If there is a physical intent behind those words then yes, I’ll defend myself at that point.

My sister had a DNA test done about a year ago and we really weren’t surprised with the results as they pretty much confirmed what our family bibles tell us. There has been extensive documentation in them for well over 100 years. My Great, Great, Great Grandmother and Great Grandmother made an extensive effort to document EVERYTHING. My Great Aunt continued the efforts as well as taught me to continue her efforts. With technology and DNA testing we now have verifiable proof of everything that was recorded previously. We have confirmed links to over 200 DNA matches within our tree of almost 2000 individuals. We can trace our families arrival back to over 20 immigrations since 1634 to the most recent in 1949.

Our family is very much a mongrel mix. We are a majority white from English, Irish and Scottish decent, though not by much (43%) the balance is a mixture of African (both white and black), Native American, American Black, Spanish Korean and Mexican. The only surprise was the Spanish, though I’m sure it came through the Mexican line, as that lineage has been most difficult to research.

If you haven’t done genealogical research before, I would HIGHLY recommend getting involved. It can be extremely enlightening as well as frustrating.
The spanairds did have a huge presence in the south west US and even Florida at some point in history. They were conquerors of their time. Often pillaging natives and aztecs and mayans. Etc.

My family has spanish ancestry as New Mexico was under a lot of spanish rule in it’s history.

My Japanese side stems to my great grandpa(born and raised New Mexican) was a guard at a Japanese internment camp in santa fe. He befriended a Japanese prisoner who wound up introducing my great grandpa to his sister(my great grandma). So generationally we are not too far removed from everything.

Of course we can possibly be native, french and Scottish down the line as New Mexico has those settlers in it’s history.

But as far as I’m aware. I claim spanish/japanese as I know that part of my family history

Once upon a time in America physical actions had more impact than the spoken or written word, sticks and stones n'at.

Don’t worry, they’ve prepared for that. That’s when the “white privilege” comes to the forefront.
Minority or not, as long as you’re white you’ll always be privileged.

Seems the Irish people have no problem with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and this little guy…

Why aren’t liberals complaining?
