NFL to Discuss Banning "Hip Drop" tackle

There is no definitive answer to this. If banned it will change the game in an unimaginable way.

The NFL has a lot to be considering and not just this tackle method. It’s a wait and see……….

do we still complain about horse-collar tackles?

get rid of the hip-drop tackle, Leveon lost for the season devastated our offense

Meh lets just start working towards Android football… its probably only slightly more expensive than the players salaries now and nobody cares about headshots or leg drop tackles whe repairs are easy to make…

So the O Line can keep doing the cut blocks where they just attack defenders legs with no reproach but heaven forbid a defender does a hip drop tackle

Please, this shut is stupid

Of course we still have the running back. His life is lesser. Smash him all you want.

I like the robot idea above. They won't become free agents or miss games. Keep backup robots on the roster and you're good. No more problems. No offseason bs. No out of shape players. No robot strikes.

I don't think it's stupid. This isn't a common tackle. It's done by poor caxklers and people not in position

Every time I see one of these tackles I'm worried someone is going to break a leg. The problem is they've eliminated so many options for the defense, so they have to do whatever is possible and this is an alternative to drawing a penalty and fine.

If you are chasing someone from behind and they are much bigger / stronger than you, I am not sure what you are supposed to do

Players will just start going directly after the knees.

Well, sadly, it's not very common. You only see this tackle near a goalline or on 3rd/4th and short when it's do-or-die, stop the guy and fell him right where you hit him without him falling forward for an extra 1-yard to get the TD or first down which ends the game.

You never ever see guys in the NFL plaster the ball carrier's belt buckle and implant it into the ground.

Most of the tackling you see today is a torpedo, ala Polamalu-style. I didn't - and still don't hear too much bitching about his technique.

My point is no pads or helmets, and these guys still tackle violently.

They make the current professional American football players look like pansies.
I also believe that former rugby players don't suffer from CTE and brain injuries anywhere near what NFL players do.

Totally agree, the helmet is meant to protect the player. It has morphed into a weapon. If the face-mask part was removed, I’d think a lot of head injury (long term) would fade away or at least lower significantly.

Tackling and missiles would become way more fundamental than they are today.

The game would become more watchable In comparison to today’s product.

Solid technique has somehow become a rare thing. Gosh you learn that in peewee football.
