20. PITTSBURGH STEELERS: OT TREVOR PENNING, NORTHERN IOWA

Big Board Rank: 24

The Steelers will also wait on quarterback in this iteration while addressing the offensive line with Penning, who is an absolute mauler in the run game. Penning dominated the FCS level, and as PFF’s Mike Renner states, “Penning's tape at Northern Iowa looks like someone’s dad subbed into a pop warner game.” He’ll fit in nicely as Pittsburgh continues its offensive line overhaul.

I would not be mad if Penning was the pick - but I highly doubt he falls to 1.20...

The more I think about it - there may only be ONE QB taken by 15 so all the blue chippers may be gone.

IMO, Penning would be a godsend.
Sign Trubisky, draft Penning and we're a lot better than if we were entering with Ogredolph at QB and Chuks at RT. Though it makes me wonder if Chuks could play RG.

I'm cool with Penning, I see Adams is available too, Olave would be great too. I liked the last two mocks of the SN staff, the 3Ms

I wouldnt mind trying Moore at LG and Chuks back at LT

Moore beat out Oakorafor last year. Why degrade the LT position ? Either FA the guard position or draft one unless you find a stud FA / draft LT but then you are getting away from needs. Moore will be a step up from last year and Dotson setle in at LG should help.

If OT was the 1st round pick, Penning would be the guy. He just looks like a Steeler. Nasty attitude like Faneca had.

They won't be moving Moore inside. He either stays at LT or moves to RT. My money is he stays at LT. Let him build on his rookie season without jerking him somewhere else to try to get comfy. Right now the team needs a C,RT, and RG/LG. I focus in on that.

I'm all for a FA Guard, ideally a left one. Dotson natural position is RG

James Daniels would be a good fit. He is a LG and has some C flexibility. Still could focus in on higher value C and RT. He also isn't an age concern.

Not sure he will be there but potential targets could be IOL like Zion Johnson, Jamaree Salyer or Marquis Hayes... OT like Darian Kinnard, Bernhard Raimann or Tyler Smith.

The Steelers are not going to jump ship on their center Green... Yes he needs to improve aspects of his game but for a rookie that was not a full time center in college I'm not complaining. The steelers love their athletic centers... Turner was a huge liability over green. Green needs to show improvement bottom line.

Why wouldn't they jump ship? He wasn't a first rounder. They have no big investment in him. He sucked *** at the position. Turner is gone so yeah they need a G but to ignore the C position would be a really horrible decide.

They won't he checks all their boxes at center and they will give him the time to develop. You are entitled to your opinion, I don't agree with your broad brush assessment of his game.

Only the girl on a corner got pushed more back in the pocket. I will paint you a clear picture. He didn't excel in the run or in pass protection. As most capable linemen improve as the season progresses he simply didn't. Not sure what boxes he checks unless there is a box labeled, "most likely to get their **** pushed in."

Moore didn't beat out Okorafor last year. They felt that with Moore being a rookie and never having played RT, it would be best to leave him at LT rather than have him move. Especially since Chuks was coming off of basically a whole year at RT and wouldn't have to transition.

I disagree with your in-depth assessment... No big deal, bottom line the Steeler like him and they are not pulling the plug after his rookie year.

We shall see just how much the Steelers like him. Free agency is on the doorstep. I disagree that the Steelers are sold on him. Even Rooney said he is other position capable. Not really commiting to him at C.

That isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

Not to sell Houssenhouermama short but when he stepped in (he is pure depth) he made that offensive line way better. should have been inserted week 6 (we knew by that time our 3rd rnd pick wasn't cutting it).

Yeap but I also saw him whiff badly, yet he is still young also and I think he might be a serviceable piece

My hope is a "starter quality" FA center that starts day one from OTAs through the entire season into the super bowl and elected but misses the pro-bowl.

Maybe they will move him to guard but that is why the Steelers like people that are position flexible with that athletic ability. At least he did not give up 7 sack and 46 pressures, he has to improve but again he was a rookie learning a new position at the NFL level.
