Disagree. He was an exquisite villain. Sociopath, coward, liar, manipulator, someone who shows up after the fighting is over to pretend he was part of the battle. Excellent in portraying the evil antagonist.

I suspect the problem here, Coolie, is that Phoenix's superb characterization of Commodus in Gladiator paled in comparison to the glowing Klieg-light brilliance of one Russell Crowe.

That simply proves my original point.

i understand a guy like you would identify with a character like that...but the portrayal was poor..he is to movies what lloyd is to football discussion

Cruise is like Arnold and Stallone. Great movies with great action but questionable acting skills
