No sarcasm ... so what do you do?

Try to bring Pouncey back for one last shot?

There are a lot of good suggestions on this thread, and it goes to show how knowledgeable the people of this board are.

my offering is that this offense has no "wrinkles" week to week. a wildcat formation or something that teams didn't see on film. Third and short on a ciritical down and Haskins comes into the game, the opposing head coach burns a timeout and you pull Haskins off the field and just smile at the other sideline.

I guess I'm expecting a chess match from a man who plays Operation...I'm guessing that's why Tomlin looks surprised all of the time.

Like the ping pong table, the chess board has been folded and put away years ago........................................

Salute the nation

Klemm isn't doing a good job with that OL. They seem to almost be getting worse.

Wish we had Munch still, they would be atleast showing signs of improvement.

I bring in Dobbs to take over as OC, can’t be worse than Canada and knows both last year’s and this year’s systems a bit. Piece together a make shift offense with a **** ton of no huddle and at least go down swinging!

Or go the other extreme and just spend the rest of this throw away year actually learning how to run the ball...don’t even worry about the score. Just go out there and learn how to do one thing well and start building from there.

This. Look at the fourth down play to Juju that was short (where Juju decided he was gonna try his best stretch Armstrong imitation); it was supposed to be one of those pick/rub plays where the other receiver(s) take the defenders into the middle of the field, and he either gets blocked, or bumps into the other defender. GB knew what the play was fucjing immediately, and it had no chance. As such, they converge on Juju, who’s a good three yards shy of the first down marker (on a 4th and 4 IIRC), and the offense continues to look like a god damn porta-John. What the **** is the issue, and why is nothing being done to correct it? I’m sick of hearing Tomlin say “we’re in the lab,” only to see the same **** show. Christ, all those who have mentioned Ben needing to practice on Wednesdays, Tomlin was asked about it last week only to say “it’s my decision, and Ben doesn’t need it, and don’t expect any changes on that” or something to thag effect. Yeah, you’re right, Mikey, your whole offense is out of sync/out of ******* sorts, but why would anyone need extra time to work together.

1. I call Joe Dahl.
Weakest link, IMO, on the entire team is the OL. The weakest links on the OL are the C and RG. Dahl did play some Center in Detroit. Last time we snagged a G from Detroit and moved him to C, we did pretty well. Green is simply not ready to be the C on this team. Maybe next year, but not this year. He can possibly play RG, and learn from that position, or even man it going forward. When Banner is back, I have a pure competition between Banner, Green and Chuks for the RG spot.

2. Next call is to Mitchell Schwartz
Can he still play LT? If so, I plug him in at LT and move Moore to RT. If Schwartz can be a solid RT, then I put him at RT.

3. As has been said previously, I get back to running the ball. This serves multiple purposes. Primarily it eats the clock and keeps the defense fresh. Cowher's defenses would have been tired as **** at this point, too. Too many 3 and Ogre ... Outs and we put more strain on the defense. It's better for the OL to push and lean on the DL than to constantly drop back and essentially defend the QB from the onslaught of defenders.

4. Plug in Derek Watt more.
Get the run game moving.

5. Best blockers on the field.
Ebron, turn in your ******* helmet. WRs dont want to block or can not commit to it? Sit down.

6. I seriously get in touch with Deshaun Watson's agent. He has a no-trade clause that only he can waive. I then make moves to acquire him. Given the weapons we have on offense, Watson could come in and be better than average ... maybe even good. He's mobile and has a feel for the game. Obviously he'll NEED a change of scenery. I send Rudolph, next year's first and a 2023 second to Houston. I also pay off the women who were forced to put fingers in his butt. I hire Ark to be Watson's mASSeuse.

7. I tell Tomlin he's on a short leash.
I begin looking at other coaches to see who's interested. Primarily, I look in the college ranks at Lincoln Riley.

8. Ebron
Gone. Sure, he caught a pass yesterday. Other than that, he does nothing. I use Muth and Gentry more going forward.

9. Promote Karl Joseph to active roster

10. All else fails, I drink. Heavily.

In fairness, (don't get mad at me here...) Until the 4th quarter, Ben and Rodgers numbers were pretty even. It's just that Rodgers seems to make everything look easier. It feels like every play the Steelers make is like an act of sheer will while other teams just haphazardly toss that 28 yard pass on 3rd and 9.

Had Ben thrown the ball 1 yard less on those 2 JuJu passes, likely they are TDs or at least huge gains. Had JuJu timed the first one better, he probably at least has a 30+ yard reception. It's not like they're just utterly out of the game, it just feels like they're trying to slog through quicksand while the other teams are running on a track.

What bothered me about Ben last night was not the misses to JuJu. That sucked, but when you're likely concerned that every moment you are in the backfield looking for a receiver you're going to be blindsided and possibly fumble it's probably hard to be very accurate. But certainly on one occasion (one of the 4th down conversion attempts) Ben had Muth wide open in the middle and he never even looked at him. He just threw a garbage pass to Harris 4 yards behind the L.O.S.

Younger Ben doesn't do that. Younger Ben sees that Harris isn't going to get those yards and he extends and finds somebody else. I'm telling you. He has the yips big time.

I think you can sort of shore up the OL by putting JC Hassenauer at C and move Green to RG. Green is clearly not ready to start at C in the NFL. Playing guard gives him a chance to hear the calls, and gain a lot of experience to use at C next year. Start there and see if you can get some semblance of run blocking and pass protection.
I was thinking about this. Finney stepping in for Dotson improved the left side some. Moore needs replaced but by whom? This is where Gentry or D. Watt to chip block on the left side…

the over throws of Juju were bad. But what got me was the pass to Najee on 4th down.
Replay showed Muth was wide open. Muth was closer to Ben than Najee was on that pass. Muth didnt have a defender within 5 yards of him. That would have been a big time gain and MAYBE given this offense some confidence.

So, yeah, to sum up, our offense has zero confidence in their teammates.
Defense? Yeah, defense still has confidence. Even after Tuitt's issues and Alualu being injured.

I like a lot of that but I don't touch Watson with a 1,000-foot poll. The dude is still dealing with all kinds of off-field issues. He will be facing at least a 6 game suspension, if not more, at some point. He realistically won't be playing in the NFL until maybe mid-2022, if then, And, signing him would be 100 times the eyesore to the team than signing Vick was. Plus, they want multiple 1st round picks and players. No ******* way do I go there. If they want to give him up for a mid-round pick and the baggage, then, it might be worth thinking about but not the baggage plus the capital they want for him.

Given the team is 1-3, the best the team can be after five games is 2-3, so your scenario is already a done deal. By the way given 17 game season and 7 playoff teams I don't think the season in over if they are below .500 at 5 games. In fact it's not over until the Steelers have lost 9 games (or it becomes mathematically impossible to reach the playoffs).
I shoulda worded that better.
Once we get to 5 games under .500, i.e. 1 and 6, or 2 and 7, or 3 and 8, etc., go ahead and let MR play because we aren't making any playoffs at that point.

Oh, you're forgetting the new "Antonio Brown Suspension Process". He's already through 4 games of his suspension. He doesn't need to be on a team, let alone an active roster.

Tank it. Fire Colbert and Tomlin after the season.

Throw a big *** retirement party for Roethlisberger.

And start from scratch in 2022.

There was a time in the 1980's when I felt this blasé about the Steelers as well. From about 1984 until 1990 it was very hard to feel optimistic about anything happening with the franchise. The whole league seemed to have pass us by. All the good teams were in the NFC. The AFC was a bunch of wannabes.

Looking back now, I kind of just see the exact same thing right now. 1984 - 1990 is the exact same as 2016-2021. Sure there were a few good games. Some glimpses of a spark. Some playoff appearances. Maybe even a playoff win.

But it took a shakeup to kind of bring back the Steelers mojo again. And I think we need that type of massive change.

FB,RB ,TE, Wide receivers better learn how to block well if they want to start.

I'd 100% commit to running the ball. That's a mindset they need to reestablish. **** all of this 3 yard passing ****.

The Steelers need to get their balls back.

Your passing game will open up again.
There has to be a balance, but I agree with your point. Combine this with Ben calling the plays and a more up tempo no huddle offense and see what happens.
At this point shaking things up can't result in anything worse than what's happening now.

I think Ben doesn't trust the offensive line and that he's got the yips. He knows they're incompetent and he doesn't trust them or himself to make a play.
Fun fact, James Conner scored not one but 2 goal line touchdowns yesterday, it would have never happened behind this line.

100%

We are going to lose 15 games the way the offense is going. This is Roethlisberger’s last ride so win or lose let him play his backyard style football (which we should have the last 6-7 years) and take us as far as he can. Worst case scenario we lose every game and get a top 3 draft pick. Best case scenario we get an offensive spark and sneak into the playoffs.

I never thought that I would say this...
But i would welcome a 15 loss season if it meant ALL new coaches

I would never wish for the Steelers to lose, and your point is moot because the Rooney's won't fire all the coach's, it's their rule.

But they should, and I not saying the next coach should be your average white guy, nor should he or she necessarily be a POC. Hire the best prospect out there.
A requirement for a coach should not be their particular skin pigmentation, but their ability to win football games.

If it was up to me.... the first thing I would do is fire Tomlin. Seems like a good place to start. Then as most are saying I would let Ben have a stab at running the offense.
God this would be a dream come true. Love to see the idiot's press conference after being fired.

Nope, never. I long ago came to terms with the fact that Tomlin will be the coach as long as he feels like being the coach. The ink isn't even dry on the contract extension yet. It is what it is.

What do I do?
Accept the season for what it is and try to make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

You cannot give up on your guys just because. Dig deep, find a bit of pride and ball out every game day.

JMM always says, the guys should just go out and have fun out there and I agree.

I'm all about attitude. They don't have a bad attitude anymore. Running the ball again will help reestablish that. It helps the defense immensely and fires them up as well.

I agree with this. Bringing Watson in could potentially set the franchise back a decade. I doubt we would get him for less than 3 first rounders. If he is blackballed from the league we would have no QB and no first round picks. Plus the fans were in an uproar over Vick dont think Watson would be looked upon nicely especially after Ben's past issues. Obviously Vick was guilty and Watson is still under investigation, but it doesnt seem to be wrapping up soon.

I would start drinking heavily...wait..no sarcasm...dang,,,I'd try building some semblance of a running game and keep hammering away. You don't get better at something by not it.

I think just admitting that bringing back Ben was probably a mistake and just letting him farewell tour it as long as he can. Also, accept that the Oline gambles they made didn’t work. This season was a high risk high reward endeavor that hasn’t panned out. Once mathematically eliminated, put Mason in. I’d say do that just to see if Canada’s system with somebody who can move around a little better (also dress Haskins at that point) can actually work. Hate to admit it but I’m looking at next year and life after Ben. And I’ve said before, if THE qb is available in the draft rather than A qb, then of course draft him. Otherwise, draft Oline and WR early and often. No QB will be successful next year, be it a franchise rook or Mason if we don’t give Najee some lanes to run.
