Odds That Rudolph Gets Traded?

Right now if you ask me Rudolph is out performing Trubisky & Pickett. I'm not saying he will be our starting QB but he's certainly doing better than many of us expected from him.
In 7 on 7 in shorts where he has been with the same team for 5 years

Put on the pads and get in games and his total lack of pocket presence , his weak arm and his propensity to check down will be obvious to all.

Chance of being traded <10%

The other question is…

With as controversial as Mason is regarding his placement on the depth chart/roster can he ever get close to the impact of Dri Archer on this board?

What, you expect the guys in his locker room to be 100% transparent and tell it like it is? And just be like, "Mason just isnt that good, he's basically a career backup for a reason"...of course they're gonna paint as rosy a picture as possible. "He's just as in the running as each of those guys" lol sure he is. After reading that, I'm feeling even more confident he'll be traded before kickoff of the opener in Cincy
Agreed.

Rudy is as average as they come. His running mate, James Washington, is gone and while he isn't a turnstile - Rudy doesn't have the mobility to make Coach Canada's offense shine.

We shall see but methinks his days are very numbered...

I hate to say it but, a turd will not shine, no matter how hard you try to polish it.

Many say he's an decent backup NFL quarterback, who couldn't even live up to that billing by tying the Detroit Lions at home in his one start last year.
Two fumbles in OT didn’t help him out.

If Pickett can’t prove he’s better than Rudy then here’s your clip board son and welcome to the helmetless world of inactive on game day. If it’s such a low bar to beat out Rudy, as many suggest, it shouldn’t be a problem…but in my eyes there is no such thing as “Pickett’s reps”. Rookies need to earn their reps no matter what their draft status and not just have things handed to them.

That being said if Pickett is as great as many here suggest it shouldn’t be too hard for him to earn some reps, be those that are for QB2 or in a dream scenario he just crushes and earns QB1 reps.

I’m rooting like hell for all 3 and if Rudy proves he’s the best of 3 (which I see as highly unlikely) then we should start him. Whoever gives the team the best chance on game day.
Pickett is playing with guys who will be bagging groceries in three weeks. Rudolph at least has NFL-caliber players on the field with him.

Two fumbles in OT didn’t help him out.
Neither did his 70.6 passer rating (against a Lions team that finished 30th in the league in passer rating allowed at 101.0).

First off, people here tend to expect all players to be NFL ready right out of the gate or they are immediately a bust…
Some guys take longer than others to click… James Harrison would be an example, but there are plenty of others…

Rudolph has the tools to be a starter in the league. People underrate his arm… its not spectacular but its nfl caliber…

Now the reason why he most likely will be traded is thus:
1. Trading him frees up 3 million dollars
2. Barring an injury to Mitch, it’s unlikely Rudolph will be that far ahead of him if he is at all by camp end… between the two, Rudolph only has one year deal.. so it makes less sense to keep the guy you have longer control over…
3. The Steelers can keep pickett as a 2 and practice squad oladokun as an emergency qb…

I think Rudolph is very expendable in this situation…

The players around Pickett do not determine if he is earning more reps or not, he will determine that. You don’t think the coaching staff realizes that too?

Point is reps are earned not a given

Like Ben, it's hard to judge people based on last year's offense. I'm not the biggest Rudolph fan but....
1. Last year the OL sucked.
2. Last year the OC sucked.

This is true, we can only hope the 2022 version has improved, but the D will be supporting whatever success this team sees this year.

The OL has several new faces and it looks like Greene is going to be at G not C so that's an improvement. Canada hasn't been anywhere longer than about two years though and there's probably a reason for that.

Tough to get quality reps in when the guys around you stink and anyone that's been to training camp knows how atrocious the third-team offense almost always looks--particularly the offensive line.

I also don't buy into the idea that reps are earned. Tomlin handed starting jobs to Harris and Green last year. Devin Bush started even though he wasn't any good. Without knowing what was discussed, Melvin Ingram couldn't earn any snaps over Alex Highsmith (and maybe he was told he would only get a few snaps behind Highsmith). Coaches can do whatever they want.

GREENe is battling BIG Dot for that job, nothing in concrete yet. I think Big Dot brings it this year........ But GREEN is a pretty capable gaurd as well, we will see and looking forwrd to that battle.

Salute the nation

I don't care as long as he's not playing center. He was terrible.

It's not hard to judge. Ben stank last year, finishing 24th in the league with a passer rating of 86.8. But even that low number would have been good enough to get the job done in regulation against a pitiful Lions passing defense.

With that oline that statistic sounds fantastic...and two fumbles in overtime.

Coaches can do pretty much whatever they want and cool shades generally goes with the earn more reps route.

Najee came in with basically nobody in front of him, a clear cut top RB on the squad

Bush came in with basically nobody to compete with him for reps AND we gave up a good deal to get him

KP comes in with multiple guys with more experience who currently give the team a better chance of winning with a better understanding of the offense.

QBs have a lot to learn when coming into the league… comparing QB to RB is apples and oranges Najee could show he earned more reps in 1 practice

It will take Kenny longer to earn those reps and when he does show command of the huddle, knowledge of the terminology and where everyone should be on a given play he’ll likely earn more reps especially if Rudy is as many here suggest an easy hurdle to jump. We bring QBs along slowly. Ben an obviously much better QB prospect wouldn’t have hit the field either had it not been for the injury situation.

Yeah, I guess you'd blame this horrendous interception on the offensive line, too:

It isn't his lack of scrambling ability that ices it for me it is those tight red / end zone throws that he more often than not either can't make or doesn't trust himself to make. I still believe if he somehow wins the start it is more about what the other two didn't do.

Do you even know what Canada's offense is? Does Canada? Does anyone?

If last season was any indication, you don't need a whole lot of mobility to get rid of the ball in 1.2 seconds.
