Official Free Agency Thread

Like it or not, the team is very high on Trice. The top CB nonsense was just the media throwing **** at the wall. We are more likely to draft a corner than sign one. Would it have been nice? Sure! Was it likely? Not really... Besides, they aren't looking to replace Porter, they like him at CB1, they need CB2 and there are still plenty of guys available. Donte Jackson was good for us, but he came with injury concerns and showed them during the season.

And it didn't matter what QB was signed, it was only going to be a bridge QB. The options were very limited to begin with. These criticisms are quite hilarious.

First day of the legal tampering period and the complaints are high...

LOL at anybody that thinks Khan has done a good job. LMAO !

I don't think hes done a horrible job at all. Just a bad QB year overall. I think all of you are being shortsighted on his plan. First, we need to get a QB in place. By not going after Comp pick formula free agents, he can be reasonably sure what he will get next year allowing him to possibly trade back into the 2nd and or move around this year in the draft using next years available picks. More players will be available this week and after June 1st and even camp as teams make changes and get under the cap. Players that won't count against comps. People need to relax and let him work. I think he has been very good. You can't spend money you don't actually have until a QB is in place and if all the choices are bad why force them.

I thought is was already known that Tomlik was awful. I was making sure Khan was also on the list.
What the **** do you, me, or any other fickle fan know about what Omar and the front office is planning? We're all just reactionary to what is happening currently and not what the long term plans for personnel are. I'd like to think they have a one, three, five year plan and perhaps I'm giving them way too much credit. But sitting there acting like you know better is ridiculous.

Khan has had two of the best overall drafts in years.
Considering that the Steelers traded up for Jones and he’s been somewhat of a disappointment, Porter had a disappointing second season, and Fatanu and Wilson haven’t played yet, I d say the jury is still out on that.

This is a mistake,I believe. Especially for that price. To be honest,I’m shaking my head at this one. He was a physical force for a reasonable price.
maybe both parts knew it was time to move on, after the Holcomb return plus Payton Wilson development they probably told him his snaps were getting reduced and it wouldn't be in his best benefit to stay.

I’m sure you are right Litos. I hate to lose a thumper. I liked Holcomb as well before injury. But who knows what we get after injury. I wish him well in Vegas.

We just signed Kenneth Gainwell. Or at least agreed to terms on a one year deal.

Thought Miles Sanders might have been the play since he was just cut.

Gotta have some bodies in the room tho so we knew a RB signing was coming soon.

Hopefully the yards he Gainswell

Maybe competing for CP’s role?

A GM builds a team with direction and a plan. We have neither a plan or any certain direction in which we seem to be building our franchise. Just signing big name FAs or trading for them doesn't mean he is doing a good job. Looks good in the headlines though.
I believe the problem here is that the Head Coach obviously has too much input in the plan and direction of the team. This is to be expected when you have a 19 year veteran HC and a new GM with next to no experience. Toss an Owner into the mix that “inherited” his position with also no experience and his willingness to follow the HC’s lead and you have the current Steelers.

In a perfect world the Ownership hires a GM they believe has the vision and abilities to build a team to their satisfaction.
The GM builds the team, through the draft, FA and trades and claims, and identifies players to fit that vision.
The HC develops an offense & defense philosophy with the players he is given to satisfy the vision and direction of the GM. He manages the asst coaches and handles keeping the team on track.

The Steelers do not have that setup and it has been detrimental for over a decade. To be fair, the vast majority of teams have the same issues, some more some less.

I certainly didn't think we would have screwed things up so bad already. Sign Fields or Wilson a couple weeks ago.
You are assuming that said players wanted to STAY in the first place. Look back over the last few years, there have been a number of players that CHOSE to go elsewhere without making a scene.

Rudolph - It was rumored that he was offered a chance to stay, but declined
Pickett - He was traded after declaring his desire to be anywhere else
Blount - He got them to release him because he wanted no part of being in Pittsburgh
Harrison - He also got them to release him
Brown - He got them to release him because he didn’t want to be there. Maybe not the best example
Randle El - was rumored to have turned down a contract extension
Fields - Was offered a contract, declined and walked away
Bell - Sat out a year because he didn’t want to be there

Question I have is this, “How much did Mike Tomlin’s management factor into the decision to leave?” Players have made references to broken promises made to get them to sign. That can’t make for a productive work environment.

How can the Steelers manage to screw up free agency so badly..

Bosa to the bills in an unexpected twist. Swapping an old oft injured edge rusher for a younger oft injured edge rusher.

I have to assume the Steelers have something in place at QB they feel confident is a sure thing. Otherwise, I doubt DK agrees to a four year extension with no idea who will be throwing him the ball this year. Maybe all he cared about was the money, but I'm guessing he would have had others willing to pay him around the same as what he got from the Steelers. Maybe we find out tomorrow on the first day of the new league year.
