OK, so we sign a new player. Who get's the boot??

Darrius Heyward Bey showed alot of value on special teams running down kicks. Starts on the Steelers first kickoff. Despite being R2 and more of a contain/pinch player, his speed lets him get down the field first, he winds up forcing a double team, including the Chiefs upback. Allows other defenders to run free.

Not always the guy making the tackle who made the play.

Personally, I think JB has more upside. DHB in this situation would get the boot IMHO since JB can play special teams. Name the last play DHB made on ST. See?

Yep. probably as a WR he has more up side. Justin hasn't been playing special teams though. and i don't recall him ever playing on them. DHB has and is better at it...obviously.

IDK, I don't think it matters either way; I don't think JB has an upside. He just isn't that good. Can't make catches in any kind of traffic. I think the only reason Landry Jones is still on roster is they don't want to tip their hand that this kid is a total bust and was a dumb draft pick. After all, they can't keep their rep as "draft gurus" if they admit to crappy picks too often.

I hated this pick but to think they carry him only for your stated reason is silly. Colbert has always stated HE believes in always carrying 3 QB's on the 53 man roster.

They have always had 3 QB's. ALWAYS.
(Once upon a time they cut Charlie Batch for a week because they needed a roster spot but Cowher told him not to sign with anyone else because he'd be back the next week, which he was.)

Don't even know why he's still on our roster...

Apparently they think there's nowhere to go but up. *I laughed so hard typing this that I "tinkled" a lil*

Except this season.
Well, technically.
I think they've been spooked about it ever since the 70's when they went with two, Bradshaw and Kruczek both got hurt, DB Tony Dungy was the only one who had played QB before and became the last player since the days of leather helmets to catch an interception and throw an interception in the same game.
You guys are lucky to have me here since I'm old and remember this stuff.

Yeah ok...you got me. a week. Now your posts are turning into some others on this board. all nick picky. And i personally was only trying to put out Colbert's personal belief about how many QB's we carry.

Just self-defense. Although for the record I don't think we need Landry Jones either since Ben hasn't missed a snap in two full regular seasons now.

Agreed. Hell we could of put him on our practice squad and he would of been safe...and cheaper.

Does he believe in having the #3 QB be completely incompetent. If you don't think egos figure into decisions, I don't know what to tell you. EVERYONE can see LJ is completely useless; when even the player himself says things like "I have to improve my accuracy" that might be a sign of a useless QB. That undrafted rookie who played for the Browns last week was obviously better than LJ. Every QB on an NFL roster is better than that hack. He is terrible, and yet he remains on the roster. Now why would that be?

That might be okay your first year but not in your second.

He was down field blocking on Browns punt ret td. If DHB doesnt make that block AB might not score. JB contributed very little on special teams and its the reason he lost his hat and now his job.

Thank you....saved me some typing.

I would love for somebody to ask Dungy this when he is on the radio or the TV set. Hilarious!

We carried 2 QB's for awhile in the mid 2000's, Randel-El was the 3rd QB for a few years.

Had they ever needed him Randle El would have been better than Kordell Stewart.

Let me put it this way....if they didn't have Landry on the team then the would have another QB on the team.....Whether that QB was any good or not doesn't really matter either...just that he is a QB.

They could use James Harrison, if he can throw as far as he can long snap send everyone deep its on the way.

I questioned having Brown that high on the roster depth chart to begin with; to me, he never showed he can play on this level. It turns out that I was right. I believe they over-emphasize hustle in practice and end up playing players who aren't good enough, basing too much on how hard they work, ala Redman, who wasn't even worthy of a roster spot, let alone be the starter. They fail at this all the time - but that is the warped PA/Amish mentality where they overly rate hard work over talent. Yes, hard work is a must trait in the NFL, but don't let that factor alone make you blind to good decisions on who should be out there. So Brown and Redman gave good effort in practice, so what? They simply were not talented enough regardless.

Check Redman's history before he had his concussion problems and tell me why anyone should consider your opinion?

Browns would take Jones in a heartbeat.

Now they wouldn't, but let's say you are right and they would...provinggggggggggggggggggggggg what exactly? If Browns would pick up Jones in a heartbeat, I believe all you are saying is confirming how bad he sucks and has no future.

I mean the Browns aren't exactly known for adding quality QBs to their roster in the last 30 years.

His history? You mean his history or running slow, being smallish and having a rushing style where it was a guarantee he was going to get hurt from staying up and taking hit after hit after hit? You mean that history?

Anyone could see he was never going to amount to anything in the NFL. Why didn't the Steelers realize it? Oh, because he worked hard in practice and kissed ***. That is reason to not upgrade the position and name him as starter? How foolish.

Maybe we can work a trade, with all those early picks there has to be someone we want.
