OL or DT in the draft?

Jordan Davis. My bad.
NT, Georgia

What about the new kid (name fades me)they have been trying lately ? Could save a scarce draft pick. It's not that Jordan isn't qualified but we have very little draft positions and a lot of team positions that need filled.

IMO, if we're within 5 slots of Jordan Love in the first round, I package our first and Claypool to move up for him.

Heyward is getting long in the tooth, but still playing great. Imagine our "d" if Heyward wasnt on the field.
With Love and Adams ... two NTs on the field and both able to provide push, with Heyward, we'd be better. Wormley has played admirably, but he's not on the same level as a Jordan Love. Though if we stopped ******* running DLs out every goddamned play, maybe they'd not be as winded.
Jordan Love?? The guy backing up Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay??
:confused1:

I know everyone won't agree but I don't bring back Tuitt or Alualu. I don't set up important positions that show weakness now with question marks. They both had good runs. Thank you.. time to move on. I use free agency for a corner, QB,NT,C, and SS. Then it is BPA at RT,WR,G,DE,ILB, and OLBer. No reason not to attack free agency. I wish for a coaching reboot but we know we won't get that

First round value could be at C,G, or DE.

By doing so you automatically create the immediate need to find two new starters in addition to the seven starters they'll need to replace entering the offseason. Alualu is cheap at $2.5 million and they won't find a better player for that price, even if he's only a rotational player next year. Tuitt has a high price tag, but is only the 18th paid player at his position. If he actually plays next year, they'll enter the season with the DL as a strength again.

Quarterback
-Roethlisberger is a free agent with reports that this is his last year with the team. Rudolph isn't the answer unless you plan on winning maybe 6 games at best next year.

Offensive Tackle
-I'm sure Moore will be handed the starting job at LT or RT next year. They'll still need a replacement.

Guard
-They'll need a replacement for Turner, who will be a free agent.

Wide Receiver
-Johnson and Claypool are under contract, but there is a clear need for a third player.

Inside Linebacker
-I don't think they'll keep Schobert at his price, plus he saves over $9 million as a post-June 1st cut. You don't bench a guy at his price if he is in your long-term plans.

Cornerback
-They were short on viable starters this year. Haden is a free agent and they'll need a starter

Strong Safety
-Edmunds will be a free agent.

Alualu is a must - only because he didn't have to take much tread on the tires this year. TA has another year in him. If the Steelers run a 3-4, Alualu is a must, if only to spell whoever is the new guy.

Alualu healthy/ Minka & Watt = potential top 5 defense if the coaching staff can get it's head out of its ***.

Think about what Jesus would say to Mike Tomlin and Keith Butler: I gave you the best pass rusher in the NFL; I gave you the best ball-hawk in the NFL; And I gave you a very stout 0 technique Nose Tackle... WHAT more could you possibly need?!

Two older players out pretty much whole season. The odds they come back strong isn't great.

Thing is you could keep both and road block the position in bringing in a free agent or two. Or drafting a DE or NT high. Way I look at it is the positions are a weakness now. I prefer to get younger at those spots. Not really confident in either staying healthy or contributing significantly. I get Alu isn't expensive so I sort of get him coming back. Just a little nervous if he does they don't attack the position aggressively.

Keeping them does block a UFA, but I'd rather invest in 1/2 OL and a DB. I would say it's almost a certainty they'll sign at least one quality OL (think Jeff Hartings) and DB (either CB or S). It doesn't block you from drafting either position. If you get a stud, you draft them. Don't artificially create a hole there and then if the draft doesn't fall your way you're stuck without a replacement.

I guess I was thinking with the money you save with both they could free agent both spots. And still bring in a G or C and a CB and a QB. I seen them work wonders up against the cap I think they should be able to bring in a significant amount of mid tier players. Especially if they tweak like in past seasons.

Alualu just broke an ankle. That is more than a little tread off the tires for a player of his size and age.

It would be great if both he and Tuitt would return near peak form in 2022, as it would make the Steelers a significantly better team, but that is unlikely to be the case.

Alualu will be 35 and has yet to play a full season with the Steelers, and Tuitt may never be right again, if he truly took his brother's death as hard as has been reported.

They cannot go into the offseason expecting anything from either, IMO.

Exactly which was what I was angling at.

He can play both DE and DT so he would be a smart FA signing, still need to draft a NT to groom and Alualu can rotate anywhere in the Dline

What makes you think he can hold up? I would wager that isn't good Vegas odds and I like him.

It depends on what the Steelers do with Alualu and Tuitt after the season. If these guys are back, you have Loudermilk coming back and he is slowly developing into a quality rotational player. Maybe you can afford to wait until the second or third to take a DL. There isn't a single OL position I'd rule out early. They're all replaceable at this point. If Tyler Linderbaum is there, you have to take him.
Right guard or right tackle…

Turner is a ufa and so is chuks… you could grab the best tackle available and it would be a huge help… or you could get a real stud at guard and solidify the middle for a decade

Tyler Linderbaum from Iowa. Dude is a beast of a Center, probably even better than Creed Humphrey was last year! Possibly Rasheed Walker from Penn State at OT as another option, but OLine all the way!

Maybe you're right. i don't know. Certainly there's more doubt about Tuitt since its unknown how to heal him.

But i've heard this same **** last year: He had Tommy John surgery so he'll never be right again. He's damn near 40, stick a fork in him.

i just think you need Alualu in a 3-4 or need some experienced stud. Otherwise - the entire fricken defense is gonna be crap again.

If the Steelers continue to refuse to get a stud NT, there is no point in sticking with the 3-4.

Adams

I like Adams, in fact, I wanted us to draft him. But ... look at the numbers alone.
Adams is 3, 305

Jordan Davis is 6-6, 340. That's a BIG dude. And he moves like a LBer not named Bush.

I'd be surprised if we bring Alualu back next year, since Adams is essentially doing the same, and for even cheaper.

I guess that is dependant on if they think there's a drop off in play from one to the other. I think they should upgrade the run D in free agency. Get younger and more talented at the positions. Ok with Adams sticking for depth if he beats out the competition.

I'd bring back Alualu if he can return to form. He only has a couple years left in him anyhow. We will need him if Tuitt never comes back or they don't bring him back. Adams has looked decent but he hasn't really proven himself yet.
