Most things born of greed are a bad idea. now don't get me wrong. I live in an icy winter hell. so the prospect of the Steelers in the hunt or a spot adds a week or two of interest into January thus shortening the time until thaw and thoughts of the draft. However, none of the Steelers, Pats, Fish, Packers or Seahawks really deserve to be in the playoffs. These are all deeply flawed teams. The old system 16 games had symmetry, two teams do deserve a bye. And a 6th has won Super Bowls. 7ths are simply sub par teams that do not belong at the dance. Whoever plays a Buffalo or Bengals team next week is going to get boot stomped again.

Wasn't thrilled when they changed things. But that is the NFL always screwing with the game. Greed has no limitations.

Eventually they are going to expand again… its what they have been angling for a while towards… Goodell desperately wants his legacy as a European division, which is a huge mistake imo… they will eventually add that eighth playoff team so half the league more or less makes it. Imo it should be the top third of the league.. in a 32 team league 12 was fine… the only issue in the old system was there are too many divisions… winning your division with a losing record should not get you in…

It was all intended to do exactly what it does. Give false hope to mediocre or worse teams thus selling more games that would normally be irrelevant.

Even the Jags last night. That should have been the Trevor Lawrence coming out party. Instead they hang around and got lucky with an inexperienced Q. trying to do too much with a too long of clock in his head. But neither of those teams should be in. But I can live with Division winners. Always been like that. Just more pairity now.

Right, I think it was intended to reduce the number of meaningless games in the last couple weeks of the regular season.

Thus in the process watering down a coaches resume with playoff appearances. That meant more prior to the reformat.

Well with the flex schedule they were able to sell last nights schlock as a prime time game on a Saturday. It was a garbage game between two garbage teams going nowhere.

Yep

I don't hate the format and like the 2 extra games, but playing one on Monday Night is dumb as ****.
100% agree. the reason we are not watching NFL football tonight is to not give an advantage to a playoff team.

Every time you add a team you are essentially adding across the league 53 players and a dozen coaches who weren't good enough to be in the league before.
Two problems with a Euro division. One, I don't know that the Europeans care enough. Be similar in popularity to MLS here I suppose. Two, unless they're playing eastern division teams from the U.S. travel time will be a pain in the tookus. I flew from Charlotte to Rome overnight, 8 hour flight, and it messes with your body clock. West coast team has to go there they better have a bye week the next week.
Agree if you have a sub-.500 record you don't belong in the playoffs.

Six teams from each conference was the perfect format. At this point, whatever, the NFL is gonna do whatever it can to make more money so I'll try to enjoy these incredibly mismatched 2-7 games.

The only people who think a euro division is a good idea are unfortunately the same ones that can make it happen… teams will go on two week trips out there then get their bye week or something.. i forget… it was stupid when I first heard it and is still stupid now

I disagree that being the 7 seed means you are garbage. We just beat the 6th seed and could beat the #7 seed. The #4 seed JAX is certainly winnable. The #5 seed LAC would be tough, but they have been inconsistent. We won the SB as a 6 seed and I'm sure at some point a #7 seed will win. We even beat Cinci, it was a huge fluke win, but crazy things happen. Look how we have imploded in the playoffs against bad teams. The NFL is just very unpredictable.

I do have a simple rule for expanding playoffs:

Has the lowest seeded team ever won a championship?

Yes for PIT and GB.

So you're good to expand to another team.

In the NBA, however, they should start cutting seeds...

Seems like hockey has an abundance of teams ake it as well.

Europe will take a hell of a lot more work for it to succeed, the pay back may not be there, costing local teams big money.

Pitt was a 6th. Big difference on 7th. You keep watering down. As it is you are pretty much at a .500 team. I'm not saying impossible but pretty unlikely a 7th catches fire and wins a SB. Always on the road always playing best team left.

Jerry Jones already said he wants an 18 game schedule.

Not a doubt they are headed that way, MoMoney…… MoMoney………..MoMoney………..

I think no matter what at least 1 of the European teams will make the playoffs every year. That will be the ”JUMP” start of that league / division.

Personally, I am not a fan of getting in for just winning a crappy division. Would rather just see the top 12 teams league wide.
