So, this is one name off the list of "10 players we will wish we had taken instead of Archer". I know it's very early, but I'd say at least for this year, Archer will most likely at least get to take a regular season snap or two.

Let me add I wouldn't wish injury on any player, and I hope this young man recovers fully, but it would seem our china doll made it longer in training camp that he did.

A refresher, the rest of the names are below-

Bruce Ellington
Rashaad Reynolds
Antonio Richardson
Carl Bradford
Ryan Carrethers
Justin Ellis
Daquan Jones

Cameron Fleming
Nevin Lawson

I like this idea- keeps everyone honest. None of that revisionist history "Yea but I woulda drafted Brady/Colston if I were GM!"

I would add Pierre Desir to that list

I don't know what's sadder.

The fact that you feel a torn ACL has proven Archer is better than Abbrederis, or the fact that you have a Google Document to preserve my football projections. Or the fact that you give a **** at all about them. I certainly wouldn't care about yours, were you to ever make any.

LOL. This list refers exclusively to me. This guy begged me to list ten better draft picks than Archer, then created a Google Document to track it in perpetuity. This is what happens here.

Hey, ease up there you sopping ****. I asked for names, 10 people, you gave me names. One of the main digs on Archer is that he's a ******* china doll, this ************ goes down, and I mention it here, and somehow I'm the prick? Some of you ******* are "predicting" our very own player will go down, and that's "good honest football analysis" but I post that it has happened to one of the guys "we'll wish we taken instead of Archer" and I'm a dick for it?

I call bullshit.

Show no mercy.... Lol

And it's not 'what happens here' by the way. What USUALLY happens here is some ******* **** like you makes a statement we will wish we'd have taken 10 players instead of him, then 3 years from now makes his ******* list, claiming he knew all along they would be better. This is actually the FIRST time anyone was ever called out at the time to name those who are GOING to be better, not some hindsight bullshit, and I for one am very curious to see how it pans out.

Stanley Jean Baptise
Kieth Mcgill
Dontae Johnson
Phillip Gaines
Walt Aikens

I don't buy it. You troll about this list so frequently that I think it's a personal thing for you. And if we're being frank, I think you're going to cum in your pants each time one of those guys bottoms out.

I will say that I've never "predicted" an Archer injury, beyond noting that he's frequently been injured and the NFL is tougher than Kent State. I also don't see a correlation between a guy tearing his ACL and a guy who had multiple nagging injuries through college.

For me, it was in order: Jaylen Watkins, Justin Ellis, Tiny Richardson, Martavis Bryant.

I would have taken Bruce Ellington and Martavis Bryant over Archer. I'm pretty OK with the Archer pick but I would have hated it if Bryant did not slip to us in the 4th. So that's my list. And (although I've had plenty of disagreements with him relating to Archer and other players) I do give Idioteque credit for having the sack to put out a list of 10 guys without the benefit of hindsight and ignoring the fact that some of those guys went undrafted or were drafted pretty late.

I really hate the back and forth that goes on around calling certain players "injury-prone". We just ******* don't know. Jarvis Jones might go on to play for 15 years without an issue even though so many of our Steelers Nation doctors decided that he has a ****** up spine. Most on this board wanted us to draft Marcus Lattimore even though he shredded both knees. You just don't know.

it's actually not a bad thread since very, very few of us really wanted Archer.
he wasn't even a blip on my radar.

Exactly Supe I was screaming Desir or Bryant and loved Gaines

Idioteque thank you for having the balls to post ten guys. At the same time you shouldn't be suprised some one made a google doc out of it or the fact that it will be watched closely. Just means they have more respect for you then they are willing to give.

ok here's my list of players we should have drafted instead of Dri Archer:
Gale Sayers
Willie Parker
Jim Brown
Jerry Rice
Thurman Thomas
Jerome Bettis
Dan Marino
Randy Moss
Tom Brady
Barry Sanders
Brett Farve

Actually I don't think it is about the poster so much as about the list. There are a few more listed on this thread you might want to keep track of as well. I'm sorry the other player was injured. I thought the list would also be good to see how the other guys we did not pick did for the season as well and if we really wanted to do an evail on the pick just maybe track the other players and see how they did and if any of them were likely to make the steelers roster.

One other thing that could be looked at would be the next 85 picks behind Archer and see if any of them actually turn out to be much better. It might be that a great many of them are cuts or practice squad players so it may not involve as much work for all 85.

Thanks for keeping up with the list and not mentioning the poster, he will do that himself.

Quite the contributor...... Eh? Pretty safe list I'd say. :)
What round were these all available and were they available in round 3 as archer

Salute the nation

Another exercise that might be worthwhile would be to go back a few years and look at guys drafted around where Archer was drafted (#97). So maybe look at 92-102. How many of those guys become long-term starters? What's the hit rate?

Interestingly only one of those guys was signed by the Steelers when he was eligible to be drafted and he was an undrafted free agent. Bettis was a trade. And in reality how many of those guys would make the team this year, one? And what would you do with Ben? All good players and safe picks in the years they were taken just dont think they would be worth much to the team now.

Here is a quick list of the last 10 #97's:

2013 Tennessee Titans Zaviar Gooden* LB
2012 Miami Dolphins Lamar Miller* RB
2011 Carolina Panthers Sione Fua* DT
2010 Tennessee Titans Rennie Curran* LB
2009 New England Patriots Tyrone McKenzie* LB
2008 Cincinnati Bengals Andre Caldwell* WR
2007 San Francisco 49ers Ray McDonald* DE
2006 New York Jets Eric Smith* S
2005 Denver Broncos Domonique Foxworth* CB
2004 New York Giants Reggie Torbor* DE

A bunch of no names and maybe 1 or 2 average players...

that's too bad...I liked Abracadabra no matter what team....good player.

No, but a guy who is frequently injured or absolutely never injured in school at least suggests something about his strength, ability to heal/regenerate, maybe toughness, etc.

Jarvis Jones might go on to play for 15 years without an issue even though so many of our Steelers Nation doctors decided that he has a ****** up spine.

Professional doctors have questioned it, too.

I wasn't selling it. What's "personal" is that I've listened to ******* jackholes (not you specifically, but many) go on and on about all the picks we could have had instead of player x. Oddly, this is always a year or two down the way, and we hear how we should have picked them instead. I've said it time and time again "did you suggest this at the time of the draft" and of course they all say "why yeah, I wanted him over our guy" yet no one can ever seem to recall said posts. I do commend you for having the balls to make a list, though I can also post several examples of you trying to walk back your list, but that's common, since it would appear even you are aware that predicting the future (which is what our draft people are EXPECTED by MANY here to do every yearr) is, well, kinda impossible.

"Walk back" my list? WTF are you on about?

Jesus man, I'm not going to go dig it out, but you remember, it's where you were explaining to me that a projection isn't a prediction, and so your list could be right, could be wrong, could be anything. You remember, it's when you got all **** hurt that I was actually keeping track of something you said, so we could, oh, I don't know, look back and see if your "projections" were full of **** or not when that pesky future got here.

You'll remember if you try hard, it's where I showed you the definition of "projection" and "prediction".
