Steelers had a great draft. My only criticism is they probably should have traded back since offers were flying. Other than that, i rate their draft better than Balt or Cincy because the steelers drafted some potential stars. The ravens hit a bunch of doubles and singles. The bengals drafted a bunch of replacement players so they can be cheap and let vets leave in the next few years.
Burns and Davis both have huge upside. That also means they have a lot to learn. That's the only drawback is that the Steelers are good enough to win the Super Bowl if the secondary can get a bit better and they probably won't be ready to start.
The good news is that i still think the will both contribute. I can see the Steelers playing the Bengals and them telling Burns to just follow AJ Green. They may do something similar with Davis against some of the more dangerous TEs like Eifert or Gronk. Not that either would likely shut them down but both have the length that gives them a chance. A better chance than any other Steeler DBs.
That's what i like most about both of them. They both bring something that the other DBs don't have, length and man cover ability.
Hargrave is exactly what they were looking for. They didn't want a NT. They wanted an interior pass rusher who was strong enough to also play the run. I don't know if McCullors will be the other NT but it's pretty easy to find a 2 down run stuffer. Just look at how far Billings and the Bama guys Robinson and Reed fell. That was because they are primarily run stuffers. They can get one off the scrap heap.
The LSU OT Hawkins is also raw but has probably as much upside as Stanley who went 6th overall. He needs to be taught. We've seen what Munchak has done with backups. I think Hawkins will be a starter by next year.
Feeney was a steal. This draft was weak at 3-4 OLB. The only guy i really liked was Spence and maybe Ogbah because he's so athletic. To me all the rest are projects and the steelers landed a good prospect. I feel better about him late than if they took a guy like Correa much higher.
Ayers is a guy that i watched because i used to start Houston guys pretty frequently in Fanduel. I was surprised to see such a slow 40 because he plays faster than that. If he can return punts and kicks, that would be enough , but he can contribute as a slot WR. He's great with the ball in his hands and with the Steelers deep threats like AB, and hopefully Coates, they slot guy doesn;t have to be a burner to be effective.
Matakevich is a coach's dream. He's kind of a Zach Thomas or Tedi Bruschi type of overachiever. He'll have to earn his spot on special teams. I'm expecting him to be one of the guys who sticks out in preseason.
