Options at QB1 (including rumors of offer to Darnold)

Okay, Hear me out.

The NFL wants their Super Bowl to have huge story lines to generate compelling interest in the big game, right? Right!!

San Fran trades Brock Purdy to the Steelers for draft picks and signs Aaron Rogers, Drafts a QB in the draft.

The Steelers would then have the 49'ers young buck QB who would then be going back to San Fran where the Super Bowl is played this upcoming season.

"Brock Purdy is back where he started, leading the Pittsburgh Steelers to another possible championship!"

Juicy!! But wait.

The 49'ers are the opposing team and the first team to have home field advantage in Super Bowl history.

Saucy!! Oh, why not one more...

"Six time Super Bowl champion Steelers attempt to keep the 49"ers from their sixth championship."

Stairway to seven boys!! You heard it here first!!

Wild Turkey or Jack?

Meh....in his prime he did zero leadering. AB and all the others transformed the Team first culture into the me first culture and Cam just stood around and watched it happen. Now he yells every now and then and people want to call him a leader. Nah. I will pass on that title for him.
I forget what position you played on the team that you had such insider knowledge. Was it Left Out?

How do you know he stood there and watched it change? He might have done everything he possibly could have. These are grown *** men. The result does not mean he usnt a good leader. Plus much like Watt he leads by example.
Ahh....the lead by example. Yeah. That person isn't a real team leader either.

Bingo — Cam, TJ, and Minkah all whine to the press that not everyone is on board, I hope that’s not the extent of it, but judging from how Pickens never changed his attitude and the D kept making the same mistakes, I kind of doubt it.

“Lead by example” is a cop out for guys afraid of confrontation and for whom being liked outweighs being uncomfortable.

If I was gonna guess of the three who doesn't get in a guys face it's TJ. Minkah fought DJ about attitude. Cam ain't backing down **** he says. Watt just does his thing and doesn't say anything about anyone else's play.
I appreciate Cam and everything he's done over the years, but he isn't in the same stratosphere in terms of leadership of any of the defensive players from the 2000s. It's the same issues on defense every year with communication and assignment issues and he always makes the excuse that they just "didn't execute." The great Steelers defenses never had these issues because that unit was stacked with leadership, played for a DC they loved, and always looked out for each other. It's because you had anyone from the best guy on the defense like Polamalu all the way to a guy like Larry Foote who all exhibited excellent leadership qualities.

Yep yep. You hit the nail on the head.

I think you are basing that on results. And you mocked leading by example but use Polamalu. He us the ultimate of that. He probably never said **** if it fell in his face. Not that kinda guy. And most of those guys played with AB in early stages. They didn't have much luck when he was just a pup. I don't think anyone could speak sweet FA about the leadership of the team but I sure as hell know Cam and TJ care.

Sure, Cam cares, but I'm basing it 100% on Cam making the same excuses year after year. I didn't mock leading by example at all, you must be confusing my post with another one.

Maybe so. There were two of you trumpeting same argument at one time. Cam is a Tomlin guy clearly. He's not going to criticize Tomlin. Pretty hard to lead after you are traded. But Watt says the same things. It's on the players. Heyward is just way more outspoken. His play definitely shows leadership. 7 x pro bowl 4x all pro including last year which I felt should be his last. Off the field Walter Payton Man of the year. I guess we could go round and round about his leadership which frankly neither of us has first hand knowledge about. Im confident if the lockeroom was polled there woukd be resounding support for it. I don't know exactly what you expect or what you are basing this on other then results to which he really only controls his about 8-10 square yards. I mean he can't lead the QB play which simply isnt good enough. I guess he couod have got in a power struggle with the coach but he's not winning that.

When the coach runs out the same vanilla schemes on D game after game, year after year, the players are being put in a position to fail, unless they’re uber-talented like Cam and TJ, and even they have come up short in the playoffs and against good teams.

Just lining up and beating your man doesn’t work in the NFL unless you have an All Pro roster, which is not possible in this day and age.

Tomlin fired the great coordinators so he could prove he was a great coach by doing things his way, over a decade later he’s proving the opposite.

Correct

Remember when Mike had a D just littered with first round picks? You know, those “pedigree” guys he’s so enamored with…

And that D still couldn’t overcome his scheme and take the team anywhere.

At some point better schemes are necessary to put players in a position to succeed. Until then we just wait for Mike “the human hurdle to success” to depart so we can deploy adequate schemes for today’s NFL

The culture is generally set from the HC on down

This franchise desperately needs a HC with some direction to instill a culture reboot

The team “leaders” generally toe the line for the HC. This team is as soft as its HC.

Way too much comfort level on this team for players that have achieved very little of ANY significance.

I have been advocating for drafting 2 QB’s plus sign another 1or 2 as UDFA’s. I would love to see 6 QB’s going into OTA’s
Shades couldn't handle 2, forget above that #. There never was a real competition with Trubisky.

Meh....Cam in his prime he did zero leadering. AB.....
Now you are telling Cam how to handle the locker room? Just stop cause Cam does not need any approval from you.........

Not sure what kind of leadership you think goes on in Pro Sports, but no one on NFL teams tells other grown-*** man what to do & how to live their life....NO ONE

But maybe you can you talk to Cam and let him know where he is lacking in leadership?

I'm sure he needs your help....Cam needs your advice of how to lead....LOL

So you know the type of leadership that goes on in pro sports? Or you just have an opinion how it works?

You seem to not understand the entire messageboard thing. I can assume anything. It is just my opinion. As you obviously have your own opinion. See how that works.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that your statement is false. When Ben was in the locker room, he for sure told people what to do, what they could do, what they couldn't do. There' have been articles, interviews, etc to back that up as well. He controlled the music, the volume of the music, as long as he was in the room, it was how he wanted it to be.

No one is telling Cam how to do anything, what we are saying is, he's not a damn leader. He constantly contradicts teammates, especially to the media, he says things before thinking about them and then has to back track, and he has SEVERAL questionable things he's done ON the field that has garnered quite a few "wtf's" from fans and media (his "tackle" of Herbert a few years ago for example). What's being pointed out, is he is portrayed as this leader, as this no nonsense, old school personality that doesn't let **** fly...and he's anything but. Great player, not a leader.

100 Insanti

There are definitely leaders in locker rooms that vocally tell other grown men to do this, don’t do that or this is how it’s gonna be type of stuff

Now as grown men it is also the person being told what’s up that have the choice to listen/follow the lead or not.

But Steve’s statement couldn’t be more false.
Leaders do this sort of thing ALL the time in locker rooms. Been shown on videos inside of locker rooms many times.
