Paul Chryst To WI?

Ron Burgundy is wise beyond his years.

And I've already got a lot of years. Damn, I must be a genius.

he is very wise, but Pitt needs to find someone that wants to coach and stay at Pitt. The cycle will never end if they hire the next young assistant to HC that sees greener pastures in a year or two. They need Stashe 2.0.
Which in my opinion would be Tom Bradley. That might make too much sense for AD Pederson, who will probably hire another hotshot coordinator and is just sure that he'll be at Pitt long-term. I truly believe Pederson is that stupid.

Oh, Pederson is that stupid. I have no doubt he will go after some up & coming coach from a small school that is on the hot list. His ego thinks that Pitt is a prime gig that anyone would want, but fails to realize it's their stepping stone. If he doesn't even give Bradley even a courtesy interview, I just may burn any Pitt stuff I have.

The Newspaper Whose Name We Dare Not Speak reports today that Chryst has "talked to" Wisconsin.
93.7 reporting that Chryst is traveling to Wisconsin tonight.
Make of that what you will.
I can't see overpaying a guy who's .500 over three years to keep him though. I think that 1) Wisconsin might be his dream job but it'll open up again within 3 to 5 years anyway and 2) if he doesn't do any better there than he did at Pitt he'll be fired within 3 to 5 years anyway.

Pitt should let him go. He either wants to go or it's a ploy to get more money from Pitt. Either way, they should let him walk. He won the Russell Wilson sweepstakes a few years ago when Wilson decided to transfer from NC State to Wisconsin. Other than that, Chryst has been just OK.

Wilson landed Bielema a high paying gig at Arkansas and Chryst a job at Pitt. Through a combination of Wilson, Ohio State and Penn State getting sanctions, and Michigan going in the toilet, Wisconsin carved out an impressive 3 year run.

Its been reported Chryst accepted the Wisconsin job per WTAE. It will be interesting to see how Pederson screws this one up. Not that Chryst leaving is his fault, but his choices haven't been stable or stellar, either.

Oddly enough, not many places have stable coaches. I'd like to see a defensive coach and then a good budget to hire a good pro-style offensive coordinator.

Sounds like a done deal on the radio. Chryst is outta here.
It's a slow night at the airport.

First off I am fine with Chryst going home to Wisconsin, but generally I feel that any college team that takes a head coach under contract to another program in the same division should get a 5 scholarship penalty for the duration of the former contract. It may slow this stuff down just a smidge.

Candidate list per The Fan:

Tomsula
Bradley
Rudolph
Schiano
Narduzzii

Late show guy on The Fan mentioned Sal Sunseri. I don't know how he'd be as a head coach but like Bradley he's someone who would probably be around a while if he got hired. Pitt is simply not a destination job for most coaches. I think stability is the most important thing at this point after having now five head coaches in four years, seven counting interims. The turnover is a ******* embarrassment.

it needs to be someone like Sunseri, who would be content at Pitt to actually build something rather than looking for a better gig. His age, experience and the dreaded "Pitt tie" is what most fans are asking for.

Either way, they should let him walk. He won the Russell Wilson sweepstakes a few years ago when Wilson decided to transfer from NC State to Wisconsin.

Wilson GRADUATED from NC State and went to Wisconsin for post graduate studies. I know, details, but it drives me crazy when announcers say it during games.

He's still a transfer in football terms. He was forced out because the coach told him he couldn't play baseball as well as football. He had Mike Glennon as a backup so the coach thought he didn't need WIlson. Wilson told him to get lost and started looking for a new school for his last year.

That Wisconsin team would have won 7 or 8 games without WIlson. Wilson made them a contender

A couple of things could really even the bar and stabilize the entire college program nation wide. Put maximum numbers out for salaries at every position on the college staff coaching recruiting etc. and the total number for salaries at all positions for each sport. It would put an end to the bidding wars and constant movement. Limit the number of scholarships that can be granted and have a rigid requirement academically for all students that get a scholarship or are in the program, have it nation wide. No thugs, no professional athletes in college. All schools are on even footing with regard to sports programs. Under achievers can still go just not on some sports scholarship and they would be ineligible to play. They would then have only education as a motivation to go to school.

Same thing for all schools means the rest of the money those programs generate goes to education which is really the reason for school anyway.

I like the idea mentioned above that if you hire a coach who is under contract to another school then you lose 5-10 scholarships for whatever time was left on his contract.

No stadium on campus is a joke. Just sayin.
Partly true but as mentioned, even if they had the money (they don't) there is nowhere in Oakland to put it anyway. Win more games and there will be fannies in seats regardless of where they play.

where would they put it, how would they pay for it and did they get big crowds at Pitt Stadium? I just don't know how much it is really hurting them. They do play in a pro stadium, after all.

Oh it hurts. They bring in a recruit who has watched PSU, OSU, WVU etc. ain front of capacity crowds worked into a frenzy and then he watches Pitt play in front of a mostly empty Heinz Field whose crowd is lukewarm. They might as well only show the recruits the practice facility.

I honestly don't think it would make a difference, though I'd love to see an on-campus stadium. People complain about the tailgating now, which would be virtually impossible in Oakland. However, it'd be awesome to see a 45-50,000 seat stadium like they have in Minnesota or something like the new Baylor stadium.

Pitt employees (Ron Jr. will be one in 3 weeks) can ride the bus and the T for free. I'm not sure about the students but if they can ride for free then I don't see what the problem is. Again, win games and people will show up.

those schools mention though, don't have to complete with a pro team like the Steelers, which rule this town. Not to mention and no offense, what else is there to do in Happy Valley, Columbus and Morgantown on a Saturday afternoon? Sure, getting to Heinz from Oakland could be a problem if you can't find transportation, but they have buses that transport the students, right? Wins generate crowds. We've seen it with the Pens and now the Pirates. Get stability, a few winning seasons and some excitement around the program. Right now, it's dead. There's nothing to be optimistic right now. It pains me to watch them, let alone spend my money on a shotty football program. Firing Pederson was a great first step, though. Let's see how they start to re-build this broken program.

Heinz Field is a great stadium and it seems that the only people who dislike it are those from Pittsburgh.

Wins will make all the difference, as well as their schedule. They need to play their top three rivals (Notre Dame, West Virginia and Penn State). No reason to be playing Miami over Thanksgiving weekend, that should be a rivalry week game for them. Maybe these will help keep the students in the stadium beyond Sweet Carolina after the third quarter.

What successful programs use a NFL or not there own stadium? Miami? USC & UCLA? I'm trying to think of some.
