Penguins 22-23

I don't get this team at all. This is a very Steeler like season, show up big one game against a good team, get blown out by bottom feeders and look like you've never played the following game.

At the risk of raining on the plans for the Stanley Cup Parade, that Wild team, while good, is nothing even close to what a young fast team like the Devils is like. And there were times in the second and 3rd period where you thought oh chit here we go again.....Glad they won but they still have to figure out how to beat these last 3 teams. Next of which is Detroit and we all know what happened the last time they went out there....

Happy they won but they better figure out how to win out if they want to make the playoffs.

If they win out...I think there in, even though their outside looking in at at the moment..

I just don't believe that Florida and especially the Isles will will their last three games also..
We got:
Red WIngs
Blackhawks
Blue Jackets

They should beat Detroit and CBJ.
Chicago has their number no matter what

The Pens are at 88 and FL/NY are at 89.

Pens win 3 and they wind up at 94

FL or NY lose 1 in regulation and they are at 93. We're in. Simple Jethro Bodine ciphering. I hope I got that right. :)

That's doable but I think it's a real stretch. Not sure if their opponents have anything to play for at this point and the Pens suck against non playoff teams.

I can see us losing at least 1 of the final 3. That would require FL/NY to lose 2 of their final games in regulation since we lose the tie breaker scenario.

I think it's going to take 89 Steelers type of luck to get us in the playoffs this year. It almost happened for the Steelers this past year and we remember how that ended. With a FL team involved,,,, great.

Enjoy these last few games and get ready to say so long to some familiar faces. I know folks are down on Carter but I think he plays as hard as he can for his age and is still a really good penalty killer and teammate.

The Core is not going anywhere so no need to even discuss them. Wouldn't mind moving Rust for some younger talent but I'm not sure what we'd get for him in return at this point over the summer. Thinking they hang onto him and have a selloff next year before the trade deadline, assuming we're on the outside looking in again.

Should be an interesting off season.

In this week's case, it's about matchups: Jersey is young, fast, and skilled. They skated circles around the Penguins. Minnesota is good, but they're a heavier team, easier for Pittsburgh to keep in front of them. Plus, coincidentally, the Wild were missing their fastest, best player.

The Pens have had trouble with a young Detroit team already this season. I won't bet against my team, but the Red Wings on home ice at +160 is probably a pretty sound choice.

Nylander opens the scoring with an assist from Carter. We need the bottom two lines to step up, and they did. It's a must win.

Sid with 1.5 seconds left in the first. Nice. Rusty is hungry. It's looking like we're playing second period hockey in the first.

LGP!!

Vintage Sid. Was a nice poke check by Guentzel

Then he shoots and Heinen gets #3

Then the Wings put one up. Darn it.

Another good, solid all around game. Very little stupidity. They are playing as if there is no tomorrow. Cannot have any letdown against lesser teams tho....need to maintain this intensity and everyone needs to contine to contribute.

They have to rely on the flyers and caps too

Yeah. They played great.

Looks like the Pens may miss the playoffs this season. Florida looks determined

This is what happens when you lay eggs against a lot of the mediocre teams like they did this season. Remember all those games at hand? I just laughed when they mentioned it because I knew they would find a way to squander that. And look where we are.

You know another team that pulls the same crap? The Lightning. The are playing horrible right now. The difference is they always seem to win enough of games in the regular season to make the playoffs easily.

The Pens for whatever reason can't anymore.

Age.

The Pens improved as soon as Nylander, Poehling, O’Conner started seeing the ice
The old guys are carrying this team. We have no real 3rd or 4th line, and very inconsistent netminding. Add to that that the defensive guys are injured. It's a formula for lameness.

I’d say the core 3 have carried the team.

-Carter was an anchor for a good stretch. So has Rust.

-Dumoulin has been prone to mistakes. Not giving Letang a pass here, but Letang seems to have the athleticism to make up for his mental mistakes

-the bottom lines have looked better recently because the younger guys have been seeing the ice.

Topseed said it best a few post up. When they played against NJ, who is young they had trouble. MN was a heavier team. So the Pens were able to adjust.

Inconsistent netminding is an issue as well. That I agree

Gretzky scored his 1500th point in his 620th game. Think about that for a second. The guy averaged 2.42 points per game for the equivalent of nearly 8 full seasons.
