Pens Hockey 2021?

I don’t. The Pens won, yet I’m unhappy with it. I want to see a more dominant effort sustained 60 minutes
All in all, I thought they played a much better game than Sunday. They were able to get sustained pressure throughout the game, they played pretty fast and were much more physical. There were a few defensive lapses, and they stopped shooting late second/early third, but much better effort. The PP still sucks really bad this series, and there are a few things to clean up, but much better overall.

Matt Martin is a chump. Every scrum, he goes after the smallest, weakest guy. He wouldn’t grab Tom Wilson the way he grabs Guentzel.

Also like the performance a lot better and the effort was there. Carter's presence is felt every shift he is out there. The Blue/Tanev/ZAR line showed up, they look to be gaining form. Dumo is a man and was surprised he came back, he is FEELING it today! Jarry played an excellent game and was much better on the high glove hand, that was a sick shot on their goal. Have to remember the Isles are like 3rd or 4th on the PK on the season, but i would expect the 4th PP to be a little better. Everyone trying to force the puck to 87. The 2nd line is productive and shoots the puck, they should start the PP and let the Sid's line finish the back end of PP. Letang needs to stay on the backend. Jump up at times and really only when Crosby or Tanev see you as they always cover. Refs were bad, WWE-ish **** going on.

I'll take the win and hope for another one(or two) on the Isand. Jarry played really well. The goal he allowed was a helluva backhand. Sid does that often, so I have no problems. They hung on. The PP sucks! Rusty WTF???? Give them a 6 on 4 in the last two minutes? Damn you for not making it even more comfortable, but thanks for the goal.

I might have missed it but I didn't see any of the Isles giving Carter any **** during or after the play. He looks to be the type to make them think twice about it.

Boston and Caps looks like another close game. Boston looks to be playing better at home. Dumb move by March led to a pp goal for the Caps

Boston looks like they are getting somewhat weary. Momentum and the 2-1 score favoring the Caps

Nevermind...March just tied it at 2

Headed to 2xOT. Keep playing guys, it's a great night, early morning for hockey......I'm heading to bed. Long day tomorrow.

Not surprised the Bs are winning. I fear them more than the caps

The B’s are skilled along with physicality.
The caps are more physical. I’d rather play the B’s just cause you don’t have to worry about Wilson or Hathaway cheap shotting someone.

yeah you can say “just play” but they are going to cheap shot you regardless. I don’t want to see a Pens player with a career threatening injury cause we field a bunch 150lb teeny boppers.

Like we all say, the issue in the next round will be outside of Tanev and every now and then Blue an Zar get there nose a little dirty but no physicality. Nobody that get under the skin of the other team. Gudbranson would have been nice to still have. The days or Kunitz, Cooke, Engelland, Cole, Talbot, Reeves and even Gary Roberts are gone. Not sure the Mario wants to play the "Gretzky" type hockey with a goon following around Sid (AKA McSorley) but there is an in between from cream puff junior hockey. Pretty perfect passes are there in practice with no hitting, in the playoffs you have to hit as you are going to get hit. soft play does not win cups. Guess Mario forgot about Hrdina, Lang, Kovalev, Samuelsson, Rutuu and Barnaby being around....

Here is to a complete 60 min game of Defense as a team, forwards supporting defense and defense staying home and joining the rush when backed up. Letang, You are not a forward! Sid, shoot the puck, everyone in hockey knows you are the pass passer to ever play the game but your shot is pretty sick also when you shoot! Not sure if lazy russian is playing tonight? If he does i would like to see him on the 3rd line, but it will never happen and the chemistry of Zucker and Kasper will be changed again as Carter is a worker on every inch of ice. Maybe a fire will be lit under the former Conn winner?

Need a translator to tell what Ovi was saying to Samsonov after that OT disaster. Shame he played great right up to that point. He was pissed but honestly the Bruins were taking it to the Caps in OT and it felt like they were just hanging on...

I'm just glad that they went 1.75 extra periods. I hope that their next game goes into 4 OTs, with lots of bad fights.

terrible brainfart and miscommunication by the Caps goalie and Schultz. Could cost them the series. I don't think the Craps will go so quielty and should go to seven games.

The Pens need to take tonight's game. Get the PP cooking would help.

The PP is abysmal. Period. The first PP of the series, they had great zone time and moved the puck well, even if there wasn't much in the way of shots. Since then, it has been a **** show at best. I hope they are getting that figured out. Converting a couple of these power plays would be nice.

for the most part, they have had chances, but they can't finish. I'd like to see Carter or Kapenan on the first unit. Change it up.

Remember this is what I was hoping for as the regular season wound down. The Caps and Bruins to beat the hell out of each other and the Pens to get the Isle's.

I underestimated the Isle's slightly though. For some reason they just didnt look as tough as they have the last few years...

Get the PP cooking would help.

I think the Isle's have the number one PK in the league and it shows. The PP for the Pens has bee abysmal.

When you say "they" are you talking about the Pens or the Islanders? The Islanders have had some quality chances on the Pens power play for sure.

They as the Pens, but sure, they have been sloppy too. They have been very sloppy in their own end and the Islanders have been pouncing on them.

Malkin Could Return for Game 3

It looks like there is a good chance that Evgeni Malkin will make his 2021 Stanley Cup playoff debut in Game 3 at Nassau Coliseum.
Head coach Mike Sullivan said all players who participated in the team's full morning skate, including Malkin, are game-time decisions for tonight's matchup with the New York Islanders.
But Malkin took part in line rushes and practiced on the first power-play unit, all positive signs that he will be in the lineup.
"Obviously he's a huge difference-maker out there; one of the best players in the world," defenseman John Marino said. "It's awesome that he's able to come back. It'll great to have him in the room, too, just his energy. I'm sure everyone will be fired up to have him back."
After missing 23 contests with a lower-body injury, Malkin returned to play in the last four games of the regular season, but sat out the final 8:48 of the third period in the finale for precautionary reasons after thinking he tweaked something in a collision. Sullivan said Malkin got checked out afterwards and felt fine.
Malkin has been practicing with the team ever since, but had not taken part in line rushes or worked with the first power-play unit since Friday's session, and missed both Game 1 on Sunday and Game 2 on Tuesday.
He's been working tirelessly to get back as soon as he can, and if that does happen to be tonight, Pittsburgh's center depth will be incredibly impressive.
"Obviously huge for our team," forward Teddy Blueger said. "The player he is is a complete game changer, so to add that to our lineup I think could go a long way. We know how well he's played and how much he's done for us throughout the course of the whole season, so it's big."

The one-two punch of Sidney Crosby and Malkin alone would be a lot to handle, but factor in veteran playoff performer Jeff Carter - who's absolutely thrived since coming to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline - and matchups will likely be a headache for New York, even with the Islanders having the last change on their home ice.
"The three-headed monster that they have when Malkin plays, at center ice, they're pretty loaded," Islanders head coach Barry Trotz said. "You're going to have two Hall of Famers and one that's pretty close up the middle."
While Carter is a versatile forward who can also play the wing, Sullivan said their intent was always to put him at center, and they feel like he's done a tremendous job down the middle.
"He wins faceoffs," Sullivan said. "He's got his size and his strength, and I think that helps us down the middle when we're playing down low in our end. He's good defensively. He leans on people. He's hard. And then I think just his experience and his ability to make plays under pressure - there's no panic in his game in any aspect, regardless of what the score is."
The Penguins also feel fortunate to have Blueger, who's been a steady and valuable two-way presence all season. His line with Zach Aston-Reese and Brandon Tanev has often been deployed against New York's first line centered by young superstar Mathew Barzal.
Blueger is technically penciled in as the fourth-line center, but that is truly in name only, as the Penguins think so highly of him and his abilities.
"Teddy's line has had a real good series to this point," Sullivan said. "They're an important line for us. They help us with momentum. They're hard to play against. They can play against anyone. They bring a physical element to our overall team game. They've had some offensive zone time and a number of scoring chances. They're a big part of the penalty kill as well. So their first couple of games here, I think they've had strong efforts. I would anticipate they would continue to do that moving forward."
Here is the workflow that the Penguins used…
Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Zucker-Malkin-Kapanen
McCann-Carter-Gaudreau
Aston-Reese-Blueger-Tanev
Dumoulin-Letang
Matheson-Ceci
Pettersson-Marino
PP1) Letang, Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Rust
PP2) Marino, McCann, Carter, Kapanen, Zucker

Did the article mention if Good Geno or Bad Geno might be in the lineup tonight? I really hope it is Good Geno. The Isles have shown they capitalize on bad mistakes.
