Pitt vs Penn State.....CFB Thread

Piss on Pitt.

I just saw that Joey Porter JR committed to PSU. Narduzzi can't even pull in elite local recruits apparently.

Penn State just scheduled Temple. They already get big recruits from eastern PA, if it's a win for PSU it's not a big win, and if it's a loss then it's huge. Let's be real, if either Pitt or Temple gets a win over Penn State it does nothing for recruiting. Two years ago Pitt beat Penn State and Clemson, last year Miami. They still can't recruit.

Big programs play rivalry games out of conference, especially when you look at some in-state rivalry games.

Florida-Florida State
Clemson-South Carolina
Colorado-Colorado State
Georgia-Georgia Tech
Iowa-Iowa State
Louisville-Kentucky
Michigan State-Notre Dame
USC-Notre Dame
Stanford-Notre Dame

You may say most Penn State fans don't want to play Pitt, but they sure go out of their way to spend a lot of money on tickets and trash talk Pitt fans.

ACC and SEC only have 8 conference games which makes it much easier to schedule a non conference rival. Notre Dame is a big name program that is well worth filling the "good team" slot on a non conference schedule. Guaranteed national audience and carries weight with pollsters.

The Big Ten has an agreement with the MAC to play them which is why PSU plays Temple so often. They are playing Kent State this week.

Many rivalry games are done at a neutral site. Alabama tries to play a neutral site game in Atlanta every year. They still get their 7 home games plus they make about as much on the neutral site as a home game.

Neutral site would be the only workable solution to make the game worth it for Penn State. But where could Pitt and PSU play a neutral game? Penn State has huge alumni bases in NY, and the Balt-DC area. Would Pitt want to play in Giants or Redskins stadium? I doubt it.

Nebraska doesn’t play Oklahoma anymore and that rivalry was as big as any. It’s just the reality of these mega conferences. Money talks. It’s why Rutgers is in the Big Ten over Pitt. Because Rutgers expands into the NY market so they are valuable even if they stink. It’s why the SEC wanted Missouri.

really think Pitt should look at joining the MAC.

I know the money is not the same as being an ACC member, but its obvious they cant recruit the talent to stay competitive with the big boys, especially in their own back yard,...i.e. Sanders from Woodland Hills

Also...Narduzzi seems like his just riding the gravy train until retirement to me..

Sad to see...

I would suggest that if Pitt is trying to get a "local" rivalry series going they should look closer to home...like at Robert Morris or Duquesne..
I know. They’ll never see an ACC title game.
