Pound the Table - Love or Hate

So Sanders chose Florida Atlantic (!) over Georgia, Alabama, and LSU because "it was more important to him that he play for a black head coach"? Shouldn't he have wanted to just play for the best head coach, no matter what the gentleman's skin color was? What if, God forbid, he gets drafted by an NFL team coached by a white guy? Would he hold out? Demand a trade?

Yeah, I can understand why they weren't telling people about that.

I posted this on another thread, but will post part again here since we are talking about Dart specifically.

Living in Utah, I was able to read plenty about Dart his senior year of high school. He played in the highest and toughest classification and won the state championship. His numbers that year were insane with just under 70% completions, 4691 yards passing, 67 TDs and only 4 INTs. He also rushed for 1,195 yards and 12 TDs. At Ole Miss as a senior, he completed 69% of his passes for 4,279 yards with 29 TDs and 6 INTs. Over his last two years at Ole Miss, he threw 52 TDs and 11 INTs. If anything, I like that he does not turn the ball over a lot. The guy is confident and wants to win with the ability to back that up in the locker room and on the field. Round 1 might be high for him, but I think he has a high ceiling
 
He loves Jaxson Dart to the Steelers, and Sanders to the Rams.

I mentioned in an earlier post, I don't think he has enough arm strength. You don't need to have a Josh Allen cannon but you do need to have an above average arm to attack all areas of the field. He does read defenses better than most rookies but he also holds that ball a lot. He doesn't make a ton of tight window throws. I'm not sure he can at the NFL level.

Steelers have Metcalf and Pickens. I'm not sure you get the most out of them with a weak armed QB. He can fit in Smith's system and would probably be OK if the OL holds up but I don't want to draft OK in round 1.

Another thing that worries me is Shedeur is already coached up. Deion has been grooming him to be a QB since he was a kid. He's already gotten lots of individual coaching and he looks polished compared to most. Is he already maxed out?

Shedeur may be QB2 in this draft but I think that's an indictment on this class. He would not have even been in the discussion of 1st round in last year's draft.

He probably would've been like Bo Nix and slipped into the back end of the first round. I haven't seen anyone call Sanders' arm weak, just average and polished feels like a stretch for a weakness, IMO. Dart and Milroe need a lot of work and aren't worth a first rounder but Sanders is too pro ready, so he isn't either? He certainly has his faults and isn't my top choice, but late first or early second feels like an appropriate spot for Sanders--especially since this is an overall weak draft in terms of top-end talent across the board.
 
I'll pound the table for Shedeur Sanders and say that every outlet and most fans are under rating him.

He's the best qb in the class. I think he has legend written on him. There hasn't been a qb that's entered the draft with the precision, decision making, and sheer will power that he brings since Peyton Manning was in the draft.

If the Steelers have the opportunity to select him then have their qb of the next decade.

Here's my Nobody Cares view on Dart and Sanders. Watched each play 2-3x last season.

Dart is more Ben Roethlisbrger, not in size but in style of play. He's got a bit of playground, draw up a play in the dirt and just go make it happen. Dart might have the stronger arm but not as accurate as Sanders. Dart is the better athlete by a significant margin. He can run and is willing to do so. Probably gets himself hurt in the NFL because he tends to lower his head and try to run people over. He's not a small guy but he isn't big enough to run over NFL linebackers or safeties.

Sanders is a pocket passer. Surprisingly, he is nowhere near an athletic QB in spite of who is father is. But the kid can throw it accurately. He has an adequate arm but it is nothing special. He can move a little but he is not a runner. He has adequate size but isn't ideal NFL pocket passer size. I give him a B/B- grade in almost everything except accuracy. He gets an A for hitting his targets.

I watched the highlight films posted in this chain earlier and one thing jumps out about Sanders - he threw to a LOT of wide open receivers in the Big12. A lot of those deep throws had no coverage within 5-10 yards of the receiver. I'm a WVU grad so I have to tolerate watching Big12 teams and let's just say the defenses in the SEC don't leave receivers with that same amount of space to work with. Dart played against much better defenses, smaller completion windows, more pressure from better athletes on defense.

Could Sanders have played in the SEC? Yes. Would he have the same stats or production? I doubt he has the same completion percentage or yardage against tighter secondary coverages. But in Sanders' defense, he played behind a terrible Colorado O-Line and spent the season running for his life. They were really bad.

Dart played on a much better team but against much better defenses. He's the better athlete with the better arm. Hate saying it but I see a smaller Ben Roethlisger type in his game.
Sanders is much more of a Drew Brees type of QB. A less than ideal size pocket passer who is very accurate with his throws.

Both can work in the right situation. Ben and Brees will both put on a gold jacket soon.

But are either Dart or Sanders worth taking at 21? Not in my opinion. But who really cares about my opinion?
