not by meI am in no way saying that this WILL be the outcome, but... all of this was said about one TJ Watt as well.

Sure. But what you cannot do this year is take one in the first because you want one. You can't take second, third and maybe later round talent in the first. Because what will happen is player gets most or all of this year to sit behind soneone. Then two full years of opportunity as a "first rounder" after that. So a miss is three years to get right back where you are now. I don't think Ward is a bona fied first much less the rest of them. So take the best one left in the third. If somehow fate thrusts him into the position to start this year and he looks really good. Great don't draft one next year. But most likely take one in the first next year and either way hopefully you got your guy.Picking a QB in 1 is always a very risky endeavor. Just the nature of a complex assessment that has a decent fail rate. It is what it is. In the Steelers situation as I have said multiple times, you keep swinging until you hit. You have a Omar and Andy for a reason. Lean on them and you ultimately have to have faith in your team’s evaluation.

The Steelers did this just a couple of years ago.Sure. But what you cannot do this year is take one in the first because you want one. And this is why they shouldn't use a first on a QB this year. If either Sanders or Dart are there at 21, I'm not taking either and trying to trade back for a late round first and gaining a second.I definitely drank the Kool aid that year but they also did a horrific job developing him.
You could say this at every position , Steelers have struggled lately. Naturally they would struggle at the most complex position to draft. And this is why they shouldn't use a first on a QB this year. I'd rather have a sure thing at DL or DB than trust them to develop a questionable first round talent QB.
I was pounding the table for him.I am in no way saying that this WILL be the outcome, but... all of this was said about one TJ Watt as well.
Smoke and mirrors.Story this morning on this site that Steelers have Jalen Milroe as their highest rated QB in this class.
Are the Steelers going to run the Wishbone Offense? Has anyone watched him at Alabama?
Throws a good deep ball and runs like a RB because he is built like a RB. But his short and intermmediate throws are simply terrible. His processing in the pass game is terrible. I have nothing against Milroe as a person so hope I'm not sounding too harsh but he is a bigger development project than was Kenny Pickett coming out of college. If they draft him at 21, that sets this franchise back another 3-4 years.
The variables and amount of finish on say a Corner is far more then a QB. And this coaching group has produce plenty of talented players in other positions in many variety of round. And the cost of missing at DB or DL is insignificant compared to Q.You could say this at every position , Steelers have struggled lately. Still this isn’t the same people who drafted Kenny. Fields did better under Smith than his former. He was the acquisition that needed development.
You draft BPA if that is QB you pull the trigger.
Nothing will prevent the team from nose diving under Mike. So should they not draft? No you stock pile talent. If things are equal you draft your premium position. Nothing is more vital than the QB position.
Sure do not reach but BPA your needs.
None of this should sway away from BPA approach including QB. You don’t draft with what percentage of fail rate per position is the lowest. That would get you a high degree of talent deficiencies at those high fail rate positions. The variables and amount of finish on say a Corner is far more then a QB. The mere fact that an article the day before the draft states the "Steelers are quietly targeting Milroe in the draft" tells me it's smoke and mirrors and fake news unless they mean if he's still there in the third or fourth and they have not picked a QB yet. Milroe, and the NFL, seem to think he's going in the first since they invited him to the draft. I really hope it's not the Steelers.Story this morning on this site that Steelers have Jalen Milroe as their highest rated QB in this class.
