Reality with Mark

The Steelers finished in the middle the previous two years and just went 12-4. The best players on their roster outside of Ben over the years (Heyward, Watt, DeCastro) have been late first-round picks. They recently traded for top-10 draft talent (Bush and Fitzpatrick). I don’t agree with assessment that you have to tank to get talent.

The "having to suck for a few years to build up talent" notion has always been flawed.

The 1974 draft may be the ultimate counter to it.

It may be true in some sports, particularly basketball, but the average draft in the NFL is just so deep in talent.

Beyond the players you mentioned, Hines Ward, Alan Faneca and Troy Polamalu were drafted in the middle of the first round or later.

The part about needing to draft high to improve is a bunch of nonsense, other than that I agree with him. The organization is staying the course to a fault. I think every other team in the league would have fired Tomlin. I fear that two years from now the Steelers are in their first or second year of trying to develop Haskins after he flashed potential in pre-season play.

Most owners would have fired Tomlin after the 2018 season.

Art II wears his family's patience with coaches like a badge of honor, blinding him to the detriment it has become.

You need not look back any further than last year. If the 2020 draft was held today, Chase Claypool goes in the top third of the first round.

THe Steelers still have to prove to me they are anything special post Dan Rooney...

I dont think people get how great a football guy Rooney really was...

Art 2 seems like a good guy, but so was his grampa... and the old Art won **** until Dan was in control...

I don’t think Art has the leagues ear like Dan, Im not sure he isnt just doing moves in the name of PR...

I hope I am wrong...

Dan’s initial years when the Chief was nearing the end weren’t exactly smooth. Dan wanted Marino—and the Chief lamented the rest of his life he Steelers should have drafted him too.

Dan went under the radar in the league for a long time. And he wasn’t in the health to really influence the team in years leading up to his death.

ARII is going through similar situation as Dan. These years will really be a reflection on him not having the Chairman of the Board role filled by a legend, same as Dan in 1987.

What's even more frustrating is the local beat writers will NOT question any tough or realistic question durring post game interviews etc.. It use to drive me crazy but not so much any more as ONE can bang their heard on concrete how many times before they realize it hurts. **** gets old.

Salute the nation
Jim Colony flat out asked Tomlin about the past 3 years collapses and how responsible Tomlin is for them, and he side stepped it and didn't take responsibility for ****

Colony and DK are about the only guys ever to ask tough questions and you're right, completely sidestepped the answer.

This guy makes some great points
Except Ben has never won anything without having an elite defense and a great running game.
Without some of the best defensive players in the league Porter, Harisson, Polamalu and guys like fast Willie Parker?
Ben is Phillip Rivers. No Superbowls.
Hell even this year without T.J. Watt they don't have a winning record.

I love Ben, he's a great QB, great under pressure, but you cannot expect the guy to do it all himself, he's just not that guy.

Philip Rivers wasn't dragging that poor excuse of an Oline up and down the field like Ben did in 2008 or making the clutch throws.

Madden is moron, he was on his show all week leading up to the Browns game talking **** too, telling all the Browns fans that the Steelers own them, and they're going to get smashed and there's nothing they can do to stop it, etc. etc.
When he doesn't have an agenda he is pretty spot on. He hates JuJu, so he's going to bash this team any way he can now that their down, even though he was talking **** to any Browns fan that would listen.

Meh. I just read another article of his about how the Steelers said Arians retired. Goes on and compares Tomlin and Arians and what they both have and haven't accomplished. Tomlin with a wealth of talent. Arians with less.

Rivers had some of the best talent in the NFL a couple of years with the Chargers. Never won a damn thing ..don't bring Rivers into this

Phillip Rivers had a #1 D AND a #1 O and still missed the playoffs.

Rivers sucks donkeyballs....

Ben was better than Rivers.
But
You think Ben wins either superbowl without Troy or Harisson?
Get real
They both bailed him out with season saving plays in both championship runs.

You think Brady Gets to his #10th without the Bucs D this weekend?

Bailed him out???? We had the lead when Troy made that great play vs Baltimore, and that great D allowed Arizona to drive to the goal line before that pick, and then allowed them to score 2 TD's before Ben's drove them down and hit Holmes.

Lol seriously. That was one of my favorite defenses ever, but they were not dominant and blew the lead for the Steelers. Roethlisberger bailed them out with the greatest drive and greatest pass in Super Bowl history.

I will always remember Big Ben for recovering Jerome Bettis's fumble in the Colts? game that save our season. Ben was much more mobile.

I hope Ben retires, not because he's done, but because he his wife and children deserve the time together.

Watch the clip of Drew Brees, his wife and children after the game he lost to Tampa Bay. Class move by Tom Brady to chuck passes to Drew's children.

What did that ex-Pat player turned Titan say after his new team beat the Pats a few years ago the next regular season?

"That's what happen when you cheap..you get yo' *** whipped."

This mom and pop coaching staff and arrangements are just very low rent starting with Tomlin's Section 8 subsidy and on down.

I don't get the obsession with alot of "Steeler" fans to always try to discredit what he's done.

Would Brady had done that if Tampa lost?

Man I must be getting old. I don't remember Ben recovering a Bettis fumble against the Colts...I remember an amazing tackle .

It’s a very well rewarded business that can also be brutal when your time is up.
And it’s a “ what have you done for me lately “ business.
I don’t think anyone disputes Ben’s greatness in the past. It’s more what about the future.
Yes. Coaching is to blame too. But Ben deserves a lot of the criticism thrown at him as well.
Seriously. Go watch the first half of the last 10 games. Yes once again. It’s not all on him.

I mean what I wouldn’t give to have a first year Ben on our team again. Reality sets in.

That's the thing. It seems to be an either or with Ben so much. Believe me, I appreciate all he has done, and there are probably some lean times coming. I get that. I remember the 70s well, especially the last 2 Super Bowls of that group, which means I really remember the '80s, and they sucked. That being said, if Ben cannot or will not do the things that need to be done today offensively, it is time to hang them up.

Look at the Bills this year in the playoffs. I could not believe what I was watching. Here they have a young guy who can move, but they flat out refused to run the damn ball. They at least playactioned, but what the hell good was it cause they didn't run. In that stupid pistol most of the time. Watching the Bills was like looking at the Steelers the last 7 weeks or so of the season. It was just lousy offense. Maybe it's a William and Mary thing. But the point is, that kind of offense just sucks and I don't think can win anymore, even with a younger QB. So they have to do something else and can Ben do it?
