Report: Aaron Rodgers Is At Steelers Facility On Friday

I'm not going to lose any sleep either way, but I do hope he signs if he's still got something in the tank. If not retire. If yes, I'll wager he will be the best QB the Steelers have had play for them in at least the last five years. The last couple of years Ben played were a shadow of his former self. That's a pretty low bar I get that, but it will at least guarantee another "winning season" ;)
I'm not convinced Rodgers was better than Russ last year. I can't see Rodgers, a year older and less committed to football than ever, outperforming what Russ did last year.

I'm pretty confident that Mason Rudolph would play pretty equivalents to anything Rodgers could do this year.

$30 million in unused cap space sitting there set aside for a guy who probably sees us as his last option if the phone doesn’t ring from someone he really wants to play for…

If he doesn’t sign and that money isn’t well spent this year it has to be one of worst front office malpractice cases in the last decade. We’re taking Bengals level of incompetence

Move on from him and spend the cap space after April when the comp pick formulas are unaffected by signings.

Go watch his interview. I'm not the biggest Rodgers fan, but he's catching strays for no reason at all. The media has taken speculation and run with it as fact.

He said he'll play for $10m. He's told that to every team he's talked to. They aren't holding 30m just for him. We still have rookies we'll have to pay, plus extensions, and the cushion they like to have just in case.

Again, speculation passed on as fact that everyone is just lapping up.

I’m pretty sure the league allots extra space to sign draftees and most extensions like doing one for Watt are cap neutral or can be made to save cap space.

We left cap space unused last year waiting around on Aiyuk, it would be pretty terrible if it happens again

Here is a quote from him "This entire time, I haven't felt like I've owed anybody any decision at any point. ... I've been upfront with them about them. ... I've said, listen, if you need to move on, by all means. ... There's been no deadline. ... I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything ... I'm not holding anybody hostage. ... When the commitment is made, it has to be an 'all-in' type of commitment. ... I don't think it was fair to the Steelers or anyone while I'm dealing with a lot off the field [to make that commitment]. ... The people that need to know, know."

Jason Mackey wrote a cringe-worthy article suggesting the Steelers need an answer from Rodgers so that they can determine how they should use their first round pick. NO! Whether Rodgers is on the team or not should have absolutely no relevance on how they use their first round pick! Rodgers is a one year solution. You do not draft, or not draft, a QB in the first round for short term need.

ADD in the TJ WATT factor of money, that 30mil is pocket money.

I’m opposed to AR and the clown-show this has caused/ing. I don’t know the guy so his personal trauma is just that, his. I don’t know, but I follow the Steelers and know that he isn’t committed and coach Tomlin is the main driving force behind this. Why try to convince a player to stay ?

Cuck Noll once said “If you’re thinking about retirement, you are already retired”

You can fluctuate up and down with-in limits, but there is a DATE that you have to be compliant and remain so it’s before the season. I’m not an expert, but the STEELERS turned themselves in one year and they got a fine out of the deal.

The rookie money is around 5mil, but they like keeping near 7-8 for back up in-season emergency signing.

Home page article as A-aron was on the Pat McAfee show this morning.

Rogers talks about continually being transparent with the teams he has been talking to, that includes the Steelers.

He also says it isn't about the money and that he would play for $10 mill a season.

His hang up is deciding if he wants to play or hang em up. He says he's going through a lot of personal stuff and if he plays he wants it to be a full commitment to play.

He also says he means no disrespect to any players or teams.

Good read, but one must decide how much is BS / arrogance considering the player involved.

Probably just confirming my own biases, but to me this looks like he's prepping the media for the fact that he's going to get way less than last year and the numbers that were originally reported.

My guess is that we're going to pay him around what Fields got paid.

And him saying this before signing will let him talk about how he's been saying all along that it isn't about the money and he wants to win.

But if we were offering him $40MM, he'd have been under contract a long time ago IMO.

I’m not convinced Russ was better than JF on this team last year. I can’t see Rodgers, even at a year older putting together a longer losing streak than Russ did.

I’m not a Rodgers fan by any means, but even at his advanced age he’s an upgrade from Russ…nit sure if we can say he’s an upgrade from Rudy tho 🤣

Rodgers was a year removed from a serious achilles injury last year, but only two seasons removed from winning the MVP before the injury. His play improved a lot by the end of the season last year. I'm betting he has a better year this year provided he has decent weapons to work with. It's hard for me to fully compare him to Wilson last season. Their overall numbers were similar, but Wilson played in six fewer games. Who knows if his numbers would have been the same, worse, or better with 17 games compared to 11.

I'm assuming the Steelers realize that they are Rogers last choice. I'm hoping they wake up. Draft someone in the third or later as a prospect. Start Mason Rudolph and grab Wentz or wtf ever us left on the scrap heap and use their draft capital to hopefully get a long term solution next year. **** 9 or 10 wins this year.

Like most older vets with the option, Rodgers is going to want to skip all the early season mandatory and "non-mandatory" workouts before he officially signs anywhere. It's also the first time he's been a free agent in his career. I'm sure he's taking is time to enjoy that.

If Rodgers was really serious about making one last run at a championship, one would think he would want to sign and start getting familiar with his new coaches, scheme and teammates as quickly as possible.

He might be serious about it, but just not with the Steelers. He's waiting for the Vikings to call.

To me, it becomes more obvious by the day, and his lack of enthusiasm with joining the Steelers should have already turned them off on him, but they seem desperate after making the move for Metcalf and with the clock ticking on the careers of Watt and Heyward.

I still think Rodgers has an agreement in place with the Steelers with the understanding that he will sign at some point before training camp. The lack of the Steelers doing much, and letting Wilson leave to sign a cheap deal with the Giants tells me there is more fire than smoke with the Rodgers rumors.
I am not as confident after the Steelers slept through the entire offseason while never adding a viable WR1/2 last year.

I finally got to hear some of the clips from Rodgers on the McAfee show and it didn't exactly sound like a QB who really is committed to playing next season. I thought he sounded more like he would retire.

There is far too much click bait out there on this topic.
After listening to Rodgers I came away with he’s definitely contemplating retirement at this point. He certainly does not need the money so that’s no issue here. Part of him looks like he doesn’t quite want to let go yet but it must be for the ideal situation like the Vikings. Rodgers is far from stupid and he knows the quality of talent and coaching in Minnesota and it gives him his best and last shot going out on top. He does not see that with Pittsburgh guys, sorry.
I think he’s waiting on the Vikings OTAs to see how they feel about McCarthy’s progress. If the Vikings see good progress and feel good about their young QB, I think Rodgers simply retires.
I cannot see him coming here behind a shaky young OL, no feature RB, two WRs that may present issues or at least one of them, an outdated offense and just an average team. I don’t see it!

DrinkIronCity you nailed it about AR.

I posted a thread about AR and why would the Steelers even consider signing him in light of his age and leg injury. Since I posted that thread over a month ago, we lost both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. Thank goodness we were able to get Mason Rudolph back.
And where are we with AR? At best dangling in the wind. He has played the Steelers and Coach Tomlinson like a cheap violin.

When my friends ask me what is up withe the QB situation and AR I simply respond I am embarrassed to be a Steelers fan.

GOOD GRIEF CHARLIE BROWN😩

It sucks that the Steelers seem to be in deep with waiting until the last second to still bring him aboard. Tomlin will wait until the last preseason game and still bring him in if he says he wants to play. There is no reason for them to have allowed this to drag on like this. They appear to be in full desperation mode when they should just move on NOW. Don't even give him up to the draft. If this carries on past the draft, we will now just how big Tomlin's man-crush really is.

Sadly, true, very sadly true. This is no longer the 2005 Steelers.

And how clownish he runs this team into the ground, pure foolishness.
